Mary E. KANZ (nee Smith) b. 1881/1882 in Penn.

Mary married into the MURRAY family sometime after 1920. I am trying to locate the name of her 1st husband who died sometime before 1910. (Mary shows up in the 1910 Census living with her parents in Pittsburgh City, Alleghany County, PA listed as a Widow). She and her 1st husband had a son named George J. KANZ. born around 1904/1905 (he later marries a Gladys). I found a 1917 directory for Pittsburgh that shows a Mary E. KANZ being a widow of Wm. if that helps at all.

Hi Debra- My grandfather was William (Wilhelm) Kanz and his oldest daughter was Caroline. My father (William Christian Kanz) was the youngest of 13 children and by the time he was born, Caroline had already moved to the states(from Saskatchewan, Canada). They were brother and sister, yet never met in person and thats kind of amazing. Anyways , we had heard of Carolines passing as one of her sisters , Esther, who is still alive and well today, had told me that Caroline had passed away. Esther is the last remaining child of your great grandfather William. My email is j.kanz@sasktel.net if u want any further info. James William Kanz Apr 20/1951

Re: Kanz, Peter

Karen,
From what I have found out in the last few weeks from ship passenger record Peter came to the US twice; once when he was about 4, when most of his family came over, and then again when he was about 9 when his mother made a second trip with older brother's (Henry JR.) wife. What I don’t know is when they went back to Austria (not Germany).
I have found the census records for the family for 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1925 in Minot. I have found Peter’s, Karl’s, and Henry’s WWI draft cards.
They immigrated through Ontario, Ontario. They departed from Liverpool, so it must have been a long disjointed trip from Austria. On the draft card Peter gives his home town, but I have not been able to come up with a map reference for how I interpret his hand writing.
I have started a family tree for Russell William Kanz (me) that has most of the documents attached to the people. You may find it interesting. You can reach me at bill dot kanz at Comcast dot net.
Sorry it has taken so long to reply.
Cousin Bill
My father was also William Christian Kanz. My Grand father was Wilhelm(William) Kanz who was a youngest brother to the Christian Kanz you mention in posting. Other brothers and sisters also born in Mramorach. Parents were Henrich and Elizabeth(nee Gutwein) Kanz. Because this branch of the Kanz family continued to name their sons after ancestors(Henrich, Wilhelm,Christian) it makes for some confusion , but also makes it easier to connect direct relatives. If you or any one else wants more info, please contact me. It appears that the sons of Henrich immigrated to the US and many relatives in Minnesota, Ohio and Washington.

My grandfather was Andrew Kanz. He was born just outside of San Antonio, Texas in 1898. He later migrated to Clifton, Texas, married Josaphine (Ludwig) and had a large family. Many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren still scattered around the state.
Kevin Kanz
Austin, Texas
