MARION, Ohio – Sophie F. Kalcic, 94, formerly of Lowellville, died Thursday evening, Feb. 11, 2010, at the Arbors of Delaware.
She was born on Nov. 21, 1915, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Hyman and Celia (Kessler) Kaplan.
On Nov. 25, 1933, she married Anthony “Tony” Kalcic in Brooklyn. They were married for 57 years before his passing on Jan. 3, 1990.
She and her husband had two children, Joanne (Jim) Traveline of Marion, Ohio and the late David A. (Eileen) Kalcic. She also leaves two granddaughters, Melissa (Tom) Richgels of Germantown, Tenn. and Laurie (Joe) Neyer of Oxford, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Will and John Richgels and Alex, Aaron and Zeke Neyer; and a brother, Sol Kaplan of Hollandale, Fla.
A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Kalcic was a member of St. Mary Church in Marion and previously was a member of the Holy Rosary Church in Lowellville.
In addition to her husband and her son, David, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Church, 131 East Wood St., Lowellville, OH .
Burial will follow at the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
