Kaplan Family in PA, a century ago

Martha Polansky Kaplan(born 1877, in Lithuania) was the sister of my great-grandmother, Betsy Polansky Greenberg. A 1930 census for Ridley, Pennsylvania (in the are of Delaware, Pennsylvania) shows:
Mother and Father, Martha and Joseph Kaplan
with children Anna/Ann (b1896), David (b1899), Fannie(b1901), and Irvin (b1902) Kaplan.
Anna/Ann Kaplan married David Abrams, and had one daughter, Faye Abrams.

I have no information on the marriags or children of any of the other Kaplan siblings, or any more information on Anna Kaplan Abrams, past the birth of Faye.

I would vry much appreciate hearing from anyone who might have knowledge about the Kaplan Family that begin a century ago in the area of Ridley, Pennsylvania.

Arnold Resnicoff

Hi Denise,
I found your message while doing a search for "Bert Caplan".I am looking for my husband's father, Bert "Bud" Caplan. My husband, Michael Steven(Caplan)Parra was born in Pontiac,Michigan on October 30, 1948.My mother-in-law's birth name was San Juana Rodriguez, but she also went by the name Jenny Aguilar before marriage. My husband went by the name, Michael Steven Parra, after Jenny married Henry Parra. She was previously married to Bert Caplan.I have no photos of Bert(that I know of...I do have some photos of unidentified people that Jenny had...maybe Bert is in some of those.)I don't think Jenny and Bert were married very long;my husband had only vague memories of him as a very little boy. I do remember Jenny telling me that someone she knew saw Bert in the Antelope Valley area (Palmdale,California)sometime in the mid 90s...I wish I could remember the exact date, though I think it was after Henry's death (1996),though I may be wrong...My husband died on March 9;Jenny also passed away a few years ago. If any of this info rings a bell, can you help? If not, I'll keep searching. I'm also working on our family tree.
Thanks,
Liz

Some facts in common...but maybe coincidental. My paternal great-grandfather, Hyman/Chiam Cemnik (changed to Kaplan) was born in Jalowka in about 1861 and did come to the US, where he settled in Chicago and operated a dry cleaning business (Imperial cleaners)

Brothers and sisters were Shlamie Cemnik Shamberg (born 1857), Emil Cemnik Shamberg (born about 1871), Morris Cemnik Shamberg (born about 1879), Frumie Shamberg (born about 1881) Part of the family assumed the Shamberg name

My patrnal great-great grandfather wasOSHER BERYL CEMNIK who was married twice, first to SARAH COHEN and then to RAIZEL/ROSE

Unless Shlamie or Emil changed their name to Louis..it would not appear to be a match. Let me know if any of the above fits with your information. Good Luck...

I am trying to locate any information of these Kaplans. I was married to a David Joseph Kaplan, born in Columbus, OH in 1934 and we have 2 sons, but I cannot find out any backgroud on the family.
David's father was Louis Kaplan, grandparents were Mina and Isador Kaplan . There was some scandal and newspaper articles in Columbus when Isador took up with another woman. Don't know who all moved to Los Angeles, but believe both Louis and Hyman did in the late 1930's.

TIA Lois Kaplan

I know of a Hyman Kaplan who had a brother, Louis Kaplan.
They came to the US with their father, Isador Kaplan, mother was 'maybe' Mina Kaplan. and settled in Columbus, OH.

There were some write ups in the Columbus, OH newspapers when Isador took up with another woman and left his wife.

Son Louis married and had 4 children: David, Gary, Toby and Karen.

some of the family moved to the Los Angeles area sometine in late 1930 or early 1940's.

I think Hyman had a dry cleaning business, and later a flower shop.
if this fits at all, let me know and I'' post what information I have.

Wendy,
thanks for the info, but I don't think this is a match. However, as I'm not sure what their names were in Russia, I will store this along with Kapustniki as possibilities.

I have found one record in Ohio that seems to match Louis and his father Izadoe, but nothing else yet. In the way names are typed, or changed when they came to America, I found Izador(Joseph) under Joe Kaplan and wife Mina, son's Louis (translated as Leon) and Hyman (younger brother of Louis). Then later found Louis with wife Freida. As some of this fit what little I know I am using them as a starting poing.

happy hunting.

Lois

It is regarding the New Franklin Amusement Company, which was in Minneapolis, MN.

I AM trying to sell it, but only for the price I paid for it plus shipping - and if you don't want to buy it, you can still take a copy of it from the site, free. You can see it at http://annalovesbooks.com/lostfound10.html and the entire Lost and Found at http://annalovesbooks.com/genealogy.html

Thanks!
Anna

His wife was Esther Wallach born approx born @ 1865 (She had been previously married to a man named Kadell (Kadlubok?) She had at least 3 children with him before he died, Louis, Unknown and Honkie (Hannah or Ana).
My Grandfather legally changed his name to Simon Kadell. His brother and sister's names had been changed to Kadel, Kadell when they emigrated to the US, everyone knew his as Kadell's brother so he changed his name.
Anyone who has any info on our family. Please contact me.
I have hit a dead end and I know there has got to be relatives of at least my Great Grandfather Louis somewhere out there. My Grandfather Simon died in 1981 in Fair Lawn, NJ. Great-Grandma Esther died in Monte Video, Uraguay @ 1946 while visiting one of her sons.
GOLTZMAN, HOLTZMAN

I believe that the family name originally was something like Goltzman or Holtzman (maybe CH like in Chanukah) but was changed at immigration into the U.S. and is now Goldman. I believe there were other family members who remained in Poland and may have been scattered accross eastern Europe assuming they survived the Holocaust. They may have retained the Goltzman/Holtzman pronunciation and spelling. It is difficult because Jewish records were often destroyed and I have not found much even on Jewish.gen
I believe that some Goldmans from my family subsequently went to Israel from the United States but their names are lost to us now and I don't even know how to locate them.

My father was Marvin Arnold Kaplan born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and his father was Otto Kaplan born 1889 also in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. That brings us to his father Charles Kaplan born in Bacvar Bohemia date unknown but he married ALoisie Pazerka date unkown. I am just now getting the tree posted with dates that I can find. My mother is still living in Cedar Rapids she is 87 and starting to forget people and names in the past. So I will try to get more dates but may not have more names.
It would be great if we share families.
Let me know if this reaches you.
Karolyn Kaplan Lang
Anyone researching Kaplan family members that settled in Memphis, TN in the late 1880's? Solomon Kaplan and wife Gussie Cohen (?) with children, Anna, Louie, Samuel, and Carrie moved from London or Liverpool, England in 1887. All the children were born in England, but youngest, Mary, born in Tenn. Solomon stated on Fed. Census he was born in Poland/Russia; Gussie in Germany. Would love further information about the family. I have a photo of a Sol (Maybe Sam?)Kaplan, brother of my grandmother Anna.Sam married a woman named Carrie and they named their children after the grandparents, Solomon and Gussie. Found application for passport with wife and children's pictures attached and info. as to Solomon Kaplan's naturalization in a criminal court of Shelby County in Memphis, 1903.

i wanted to start a family tree, my grandfather was Samual Caplan with wife Clara. now the information i found looks to be the right,DOB-09/22/1883, not sure of birth place could be Austria,Ireland the search info said he came from England to NY USA 1900-1920.they had two boys, Bert Caplan nick-name Buddy DOB-9/14/1923 and DOD-01/01/1997 wife Mary and his brother Martian Caplan died of massive heart attack 5 years earlier.both born in Detroit Michagan. Now this is where it starts to fall apart, my dad said he did not have a middle name and the data shows Martain Kaplan without, not spelled Caplan and Bert C Kaplan, not Caplan. Martian had 4 children David is the only one i remember, oh there was some story about changing name to Copeland for reasons of safty,my name is Denise Caplan sister Claire and Brother Mark.we were all born in Detroit Michagan I have some pictures of my dad. any help would be wonderful. meantime i will keep looking
