I have a 1968 news clipping of the following obituary; I do not know the paper, most likely Stockton Journal Standard or Freeport, Illinois paper;

Charles Kappes. Stockton relative have received word of the recent death of Charles Kappes, 82, former area resident. Kappes died at his home in North Dakota Wednesday, August 14. Kappes formerly farmed, both here and in North Dakora, but was later employed in a feed mill. Besides his wife, Sadie, he leaves two daughters, Bertie of Oakes and Fern of Bismarck, N.D.; a step-son, Emmett Hegwood, and a sister, Sister Hiltrudis of Randolph, Nebr. Mrs. Mary Batchelder of Stockton is a niece and Raymond Kappes of Stockton are nephews. The funeral and burial were at Oakes, South Dakota.
