Johannes Karch, Lancaster County, Pa

I'm searching for information on Johannes Karch who lived in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He appears to have come on the Ship Barclay arriving at Philadelphia 14 September 1754, appears in the Warwick Lutheran Church records in 1763, patented a tract of land with Peter Eby in 1773 then sold this land in 1776 and disappeared from the records. There is an Andrew Karch listed as an inmate, perhaps a son. An Andrew Karch by 1780 owns land in what is now Cumberland Township, Adams then York County. Does anyone have any information on this family?

I am John Schroeder's great granddaughter. My cousin has done extensive genealogy work on the Schroeder family and she asked me to visit the Frankfort Historical Society(I live in Frankfort). I got your name from a 1993 letter you wrote in their Karch file. I took pictures of the Frankfort graves and saw an old house on the property that the owner said was bought from the Heisner family who bought it in 1902.You can email me at mhainzinger@hotmail.com since I am not good at ancestry.com.

Beyond what I have posted, no, I do not have more but would love more. Wow, I found someone related to this family. I am so excited. I didn't catch that you had responded to me. I am so sorry. I had two surgeries 10 months apart and it was a very hard year.

So where in Slovakia are you from? Do you have more on the Burgers or the Kohlers? I am seriously happy to know I have cousins still there. Larentes and Maria are my ggg Grandparents too. So we are 4th cousins I believe. Can you let me know if Larentes and Maria had more children? Also, please tell me of the generations from your family up to you. Oh and most importantly, please tell me more about you and yours.

You can ask me anything here too. Are you on Facebook? I am. You can find me under Gina Rubino-Seymour. Look me up sometime! : )

Kind regards,
Gina

I am looking for information on Jesse Franklin Karch. I saw this post and was hoping you may have found additional information on his family. He was married to Cecil Jobe. They lived in Oklahoma. Cecil is found on the 1900 Cenus for Warren, Camden, Missouri. A neighbor is listed as William Karch, but there is no reference to Jesse. Any information you have would be such a great help.
Thank you, Vicki
There is an interesting story about his wife that I want to share but I want to make sure I have it right.
I will download the pictures to my computer.
I have some original pictures of Hank with his banjo. They look like headshots for promos. Very similar to the one you sent. In one he is wearing a hat and it may have been taken in the 30s or 40s.
Thanks again
Steven

If the files are pdf send them to my email address steve.chapp@att.net
The photo could have been taken in the 30s. Most of the letters I have form his travels date around then. When I was a child there was little talk of G-Uncle Hank outside of his music interests. I don't recall that there was much interaction among the siblings in their adult years that I am aware of. My other G-uncle Robert the youngest of the four siblings was a H.S.trade school teacher and taught graphic design and printing. He lived in Fl. in his later years. A photo of the house would be a addition to the records.
Rescan the photos as jpgs to send them to my email address.
Thanks!
Regards,
Steven

Steven
Sorry to hear you are having such cold weather this winter. It is normal for Cincinnati to have cold temps like that, but not SC. I was in FL over Christmas visiting my son and heard about the snow storm heading your way. What a big surprise!

So, I scanned 3 pictures and will try to send them. One is the band. Dad is in the 2nd row from the top, 2nd from the right. His cousin, Bud is in the 2nd row from the bottom, 3rd from the right - sitting next to a girl. There is no date or any other information on this photo. The other 2 are the cover and inside page of the Karch's Tenor Banjo Method book I have. The inside cover has a note from Hank with a reference to his wife, Mae. Thought you'd want to see that too.

I also noted on your original posting that Hank and his wife Mae lived in Norwood on Isben Ave. I just realized that is about a mile from where I work. Sometimes I pass the street. If I find the house and can take a quick pic with my phone, I'll send it to you.

Enjoy the photos.
Elaine

Steven
On a whim I looked in the first box downstairs and found the group picture of the Orchestra. I identified my Dad and his cousin. Your uncle, Hank is in the front in the middle. I also found a "Karch's Tenor Banjo Method" book - by Hank Karch. There is a picture of Hank on the front also. My Dad played a Tenor Banjo. I think Bud (his cousin) is holding a mandolin. I will scan the pictures and send them to you. It may take a few days since I don't have a scanner at the house. Elaine Snider

I will go back to some of his letters and see if I can glean more data. I know he worked for RKO Radio out of Cincinatti, OH. as well.
regards, Steven Chapp

Hi,

Henry Jacob had another son "Jacob Karch". He is my great-great grandfather. Do you know anything about this line of Karch?

Jacob had a son named Albert Karch. There was a "feud" of some kind in the family and one point in time our surname became "Hartman".

I would love to find out the reasons behind this and where the Karchs that I'm related to are today.

Thanks!!

Katherine

Even though you post was 10 years ago, I thought I would try. My family were Lampert from Mutterstadt. It was Martin Lambert and Albertina Margarethe Weigerter and their 4 children who immigrated. They had an Elizabeth who married Jacob Krick, Margaret, Anna Maria, and Wilhelm (my ancestor). They came over here from Mutterstadt in 1848. Martin and Albertina & family settled first in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, then moved to nearby Milan, the finally to Jackson County, IN. I do not know anything else about Martin except that he used the name Lambert, not Lampert.

I know it is several years since your message was posted but I do have some information on this line of the family. My paternal grandmother was Minnie Catherine Karch sister of the Henry Jacob Karch you inquired about.

They are the children of Frederick Karch and Anna Christina Soller.

Frederick is the son of the original Henry Jacob you were looking for. His spouse is Heinina Hinrich. (spelling is probably wrong.

They arrived in New York from Germany and then moved to Illinois. Frederick was born in Illinois.

Frederick and his family moved to Jasper County Indiana about 1898. Their youngest son Alvin (1898) and daughter Anna (1901) were both born in Indiana.

Anna christina Soller died in 1949. I was ten years old at the time. I remember going to family reunions and she presided over them like a grand matriarch. She did' speak a word of English but all the children had to line up and greet her and be recognized.

I have more information on this line of the family if you are still interested.

Norman L. My great-great grandmother Esther Paltzmann was born in Dobsina per the records there. So was her father Andreas Paltzmann. I don't believe there are any Paltzmann's left in the area since WWII.

Hi,

Just a few days ago I came across a framed marriage certificate for Joseph Keller and Dorothea Karch, married on May 17, 1905 in Cincinatti, Ohio. It appears that they were married in a Catholic church. The certificate is in an antique store in Cortez, Colorado, for sale at $145. I also found (same day, different antique store!) a framed decorative piece (pierced paper) commemorating the wedding. It has their names inscribed in two hearts and has the wedding date on it. It is for sale in Dolores, Colorado, for $125. Both pieces are in great shape. If there's an interested relative out there, please let me know and I'll help you contact the antique dealer(s). I'm not related to either of these people, but think it'd be great to reunite these items with the family. I'm not sure how long these items will be around.

Carole
