I have found that H W Kardell married a couple of times. He briefly married my great grandmother and had my Grandmother, Dorothy Kardell Dickson. I would love to know more information about your grandmother and the generations thereafter.

Sincerely,
Alana Holland

I believe I might have the same Erick Kardell in my line (b. abt 1824, emmigrated through Minnesota and ended up in St. Louis. My line comes down from him to Henry William (William Henry) Kardell in the 1880 census he is listed at age 6. He married Ida Lee Bell and had my grandmother, Marjorie Kardell. My Erick was married to a Margareta according to that 1880 census. If you have any further information about the line I would be glad to learn more!
Regards,
JC

Some of the names that you mention sound familiar. My great grandmothers name was Dorothy. She married, her husbands name was Edward Kardell. They had children named Gloria, Judy, Joseph, and Lawrence. Not sure if they sound at all familiar, but maybe some relation. I do not know of a whole lot of Kardells in Jersey City, so maybe these will help us put it together. =)

Hey everyone...after reading the history of the Kardell name, I think that I should add my part of what I know. Well, My name is Jennifer Kardell, and my mothers name is Loretta Kardell, she has two sisters which are Dorothy and Christine. My Grandfathers name is Larry Kardell, and his mother is Dorothy Justine Kardell, I do not know if this helps, but I figured that I could try. We are all from New Jersey.

To Ken Kardell: My father Carl Kardell also was born in Sweeden.I think it was the early 1900's when he came over here, followed later by his mom and dad, brothers and sister. He stayed in Ma. for a few years while the rest of the family moved to Ca.He married Ellen Adamson and moved to Me. a little later. That's where I was born. I know there was a name change. Their name used to be Anderson. His dad was Andes. I don't know the reson for the change,But I know I seldon see another Kardell. Now I am70 and maybe their are relatives out there that I don't know about.Let me know whatever sounds probable.
axel kardell is my great-great-grandfather, kinda. axel's son, george married my grandmother, francis orren. she and her former husband (i think his last name was Reinkie) had my grandfather, delroy in 1941. delroy married margaret swanson and they had my dad, douglas kardell. he married my mom, lynn ganz, and that's how i came about. george and francis had two children of their own, marge and ken. george adopted my grandfather and john. john i think was a cousin. i'm not sure. i am now looking into writing down my geneology. any information anyone can give me will be a great help. especially if they know anything about my real great-great-grandfather (Reinkie).
thanks,
jocelyn kardell

Hey thanks for responding, I guess I never remembered that so many people changed their names to Kardell, as far as I know Kardell was my great great grandfathers name, it had never been changed. He did have a son named Axel Amandus Kardell who lived in Sauk Rapids Minnesota. Im sure a lot of people coming over from Sweden in that time migrated to the same places..Im sure hes probably no relation to the Kardell cousin you have in Minnesota.. thanks for your info though, I greatly appreciate it!

Hello ,
Well Im starting to realize that there were far mor Kardells' coming over from Sweden at the same time! My great grandmother was Goldie Hilma Victoria Kardell, she was born in Orsjo Kalmar Lan, Sweden on June 9, 1895 her father was Otto Amandus Kardell who was born on November 23 1868 in Nybra Sweden. Are you familiar with where the Kardell side of your family imigrated from? Im learning that a large consensus of people who have the Kardell name had a different name when they were in Sweden, their names were changed to make the paper work easier . It would be great if we were able to trace it far enough back though!

Larry, in Sweden, the name Eriskson is like the name Smith here. A certain amount of the young men joining the service were required to change their last name to help make paper work less confusing. My grandfather changed to Kardell. His sisters kept the last name of Erickson. It also appears that Hulda is a common name in Sweden. No one from my family comes from Arkansas. I do have a cousin living in Minnesota, which is where a lot of Swedes appear to have settled, but she moved there about 20 years ago. I sorry, but I don't think we are related. Kathy

Grandfather changed his name to Kardell from Erickson. His one brother, Erick, keep the family's original name. Another brother, Carl, took the last name of Klang. I believe that they both eventually ended up in California Grandpa also had two sisters. Right of the top of my head, I can only recall that one was named Hulda and one of them had the last name of Magnuson.

Kardell/Cardell from Lake City, MN

My great-grandfather married Anna Lovisa Abrahamsdotter. She was born on May 24, 1857 on the Södra Backen Farm, Härjevad Parish, Skaraborg Län, Sweden. She married Wilhelm Carlsson on March 7, 1880 in Hällum Parish, Skaraborg, Sweden. Anna died 6/29/1909 and is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City, MN. Anna's parents were Abraham Andersson and Stina Jonsdotter.

She had two brothers that I know of that came to the Lake City, MN. Anders Johan Abrahamsson (who changed his name to John Kardell)was born April 19, 1878 in Skarstad Parish, Skaraborg, Sweden, and died April 9, 1918 in Lake City, MN. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City, MN. He married Kristina Jonasdotter. The other brother, Frans Abrahamsson (who later changed his name to Frank Kardell/Cardell) was born on October 4, 1854 - same place as Anna, and died in Lake City, MN. He is also buried at Oakwood Cemetery. He married Anna Lovisa Andersdotter. They had three children: Victor Axtell Cardell, Elmer John Cardell, and Ida A. Cardell. Ida and Elmer share a home in Lake City, MN. Victor (also known as Axel V. or in Lake City as Ole) married a Grace ? and had a daughter Millicent who at the time of his death lived in Faribault.

Anna, Frank and John had other brothers and sisters: Maya, Svante, August, and Karl. I don't know anything about them. Do you have any information about these Kardells/Cardells? Email me at faison@iaxs.net
