Most of your June 19 post matches with my records. Peter Karls (Carls) (b.1822) and wife Maria Catherine Zimmer are our nearest common ancestors. Their son Theodore (the one who crossed with them) did in fact marry Gertrude Franzen, who are also direct ancestors of mine, but not yours. I have seen their graves in Fond du Lac, WI. (I have also looked for Peter and Maria's graves which I believe are in St. Peter just NE of FDL but haven't definitely found them.)

As for the various Anton Carls (Karls) in the Fond du Lac area, I have not found any evidence to positively establish any link between them and our line. This comports with family lore of my grandparents who always said (of the other Karls' running around FDL) that they were of "no relation."
