I am looking for information on my Great Great Grandmother
Fredericka/Fredericke Karls. She was born in Germany. She married a Andreas/Andrew Gillstrom/Gilstrom. He was born in 1847 in Sweden, so she should be born about the same time. My uncle tried to talk to family about her and no one wanted to talk about her. The only thing he could think of was that she had done some thing bad and the family disowned her. I know that they married September 3, 1873. I found a daughter, *Anna Maria Josephina Gillstrom that was born November 9, 1873 in Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois. Just by looking at the date of marriage and the date of birth she was about 7 months pregnant when they married. This must be the reason that they didnt want to talk about her. Anna Maria Josephina was Christened December 26, 1873 at the St. Peter's Evangelical Church in Champaign County, Illinois. They also had the following children: *
*Rosey Gillstrom b: about 1876 she married Bill Burke(one child Minnie that married a Foster)
*Lucia Maria Josephina Gillstrom b: Feb. 18, 1879 in Illinois. She married Charles Franklin Gilliland Feb. 20, 1896 in Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois.(they had 10 children) William Albert Earl Gilliland-Margaret Sweron.
Charles Wesley Gilliland-died as an infant
Leo Francis Newton Gilliland-Myrtle Stewart
Bessie Marie Gilliland-George Duggar
Clarence Gilliland-Died as an infant
Elmer Leroy Gilliland-Alma Wheeler
Minnie Katheryn Gilliland-Adolph Piazza
Paul Roger Gilliland-Imogene Boles
Irene Rosaline Gilliland-Edmond Vandever
Edith Louise Gilliland-William Bernard Howard
*John Gillstrom b: about 1882
Nothing was known about Anna Maria Josephina and John, by our family until recently. Everyone always thought there were just the two girls.
This family had moved to Mindon, Nebraska. I found them listed in the 1885 census, but Fredericka was not listed in the family. Dont know if she left him or died.
Fredericka had 5 brothers. One named Bill. One named John. Andrew got remarried and his new wife didnt like the girls and was mean to them.
I guess Bill must have came and got them or Andrew brought them back to Champaign County, Illinois.
I guess a Albert G. CARLE and his wife Margaret is said to have raised Lucia and Rosey to adulthood.
Albert was born April 22, 1822 and died March 7, 1881, his wife Margaret was born February 10, 1830 and Died May 4, 1918 , both in Champaign County, Illinois and buried in the Mount Hope Cemetary in Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois. Could these two have been Fredericka's parents? They would be the right age.
I have come across a William E. Gilstrom who was born June 20, 1887 in Nebraska and Died March 8, 1968 in Santa Clara, California. Could this be a son of Andrew Gillstrom and his new wife (name Unknown) What I found said his mothers maiden name was Johnson?
Any help on any of these people would be greatly appreciated.
I also have Marriage, Birth and Death Certificates for the Carl family in Champaign County, Illinois.
