My name is Edward Emmett Karn, Jr. – born July 16th, 1960 to Edward Emmett Karn and Donna Louise Berkholtz (not sure of the spelling). Dad was born September 11th, 1934.
My grandfather is William Edward Karn, born (Not sure) 3 may, 1882. He married Anna Mabel McKenna born; St Paul, Minn. had three kids, (see above). Anna died when my father was 14, (1948) in Minneapolis, Minn. We believe that William was born in Green bay, Wisconsin. However we have never been able to confirm any of this, they both claimed to be only children, and never talked about there family, dad has said that he has never met any of Williams or Anna’s family. William claimed he was born Catholic, but he never went to a catholic church in my memory. Dad says that William went to a Lutheran church most of the time, when he went. We have absolutely no information about his father or family. Except this story he would tell.
When William was in his teens, his father (William never ever told us his name) contracted with a farmer, for boarding and a job for William. Paid 1 dollar a month during the summer, and room and board during the winter. Williams’s father would show up once a year to collect Williams wages then leave. One year the farmer told Williams’s father when he showed up for the money that William had run away that year. William had not run away, the farmer thought he was doing William a favor. His father never showed up again. That is all the information we have. The other thing William was always adamant about was that his named was spelled K-A-R-N, No S. No other spelling. Thank you for your time, if any body has any information about Williams’s father or has heard this story, please let me know.
