Phyllis,
Thanks so much for your note. Until I read your note, I hadn't realized how little work I have done on the descendants of Jacob Franklin Karn. I have since done a little work and found a LOT of information. It's all posted at my family tree on Ancestry.com.
I have no idea which spaces you are looking to fill in your research, however, I will be happy to share what I have with any interested relatives (you are my third cousin, I think).
I will write to you privately a little later. Thanks, again. Ron Bubb, Toledo, Ohio

I would love to have any information or see any photos of the family or the drug store if you are willing to share.

I've attached an ad for a Karn's Drug Store and was wondering if it was the one that William owned? Was it on 28 King Street East?

Thanks,
Catharine

Bob, what information are you exactly looking for on your great grandfather Henry Edward Karn (my great grandfather also). Your grandfather William was my granduncle as my grandfather was Charles his brother. I have some information on the Oshawa Drug Store and photographs.... My records indicate that HEK married Mary Lortz on Jan. 28, 1880 in Listowel ON before moving down to Woodstock ON. Four of their children were baptized in Listowel - Flora Mary, Henry George, Mary Ernestine and Bertha Mary Karn.

Hello Ron,

I believe that John Karn (b. 1843, son of John Karn & Julia Wuest) is my father's mother's father, based on some information I have from my father. I'm just beginning to research, so I don't have much to go on, other than knowing my late grandmother's name was Mary Margaret Karn Johnson, and she was born in Biloxi, MS, and John Karn died there; also my father said Wade was a name on his mother's side, and John Karn apparently married a Mary Jane Wade, with a daughter named Mary M Karn(whom I believe to be my grandmother). If they are the same family, the other children of John & Mary Jane were daughters Gladys (deceased, no children) and Mildred (married, with children).

If you believe we are related, let me know if you are interested in sharing information.

Catherine Naftzger Karn was my grandfather's sister(my grandfather:Ernest Carter Naftzger). I remember Catherine and her daughters (Marion and Hattie) and son (Eddie) well, seeing them at my grandparents in Wilder, Idaho. Her son Eddie (and his wife Myrtle) were close to my mom (first cousins who both lived in Boise, Idaho).
My mother was a registered nurse and I was always interested in the profession; I have followed in her footsteps. This led me to be interested in the affliction affecting Eddie, his mom, Catherine, and his sister Hattie. It was NOT arthritis. They were missing part of the hip joint and were not able to bend their hips fully because of that. They could not extend their legs in front of them as they walked, rather moved one whole side of their body forward. They were able to sit, but usually on the edge of the chair. Those three always used canes to assist their ambulation. However, there was no pain involved to my knowledge. I am certain with the advances in artificial hip joints, their ancestor's problems could be mostly eliminated. If I can be of any further assistance please contact me. Sally Gardner

I descend from Jacob Kern and Christina Barbara from the 1700's. I'm looking for family history in the early years if anyone is from this line. My family line ends up in Idaho.

The family lived in Hancock CO, Ohio in 1857. The move to Idaho occurred in 1926 when Edwin Barzilla and Catherine Naftzger Karn took off.

I'm also interested in health questions since this family had a lot of trouble with crippling arthritis.

Ira Karn comes for stepdaughter Grace Travis

September 5 1905 Seattle Post Intelligencer

Comes for Daughter. Ira F Karn Wants to Prosecute Man Who Eloped With His Child.
For a crime committed in Snohomish County, Ira F. Karn, a Marysville farmer, is attempting to secure a complaint from the prosecuting attorney of King County. Karn alleges that Charles Kelman, 21 years of age, eloped with his 14-year-old stepdaughter, Grace Travis, but to avoid notoriety he does not desire the alleged offender tried in Snohomish County, where the crime took place.
Kelman and the Travis girl were arrested in Seattle Sunday night upon telegraphic instructions from Everett. The man is still in the city jail and the girl is with the police matron. The girl’s mother will arrive in Seattle today and the daughter will be turned over to her.
“I was told by the prosecuting attorney at Everett,” said Karn, “that I could prosecute Kelman in King County.” Karen will see prosecuting attorney Mackintosh today and if a complaint is not forthcoming from Everett, Kelman will be turned loose.
Bill,
The Margaret to whom I made reference was surnamed "MYERS".Her mother's second marriage was to "KARN".There is no indication that any family members ever got as far north as Detroit.Funny, though,My GG grandmother's brother, Edward Perry KARN,had a daughter who married a "NICHOLS",however, they resided in Alabama.
