Joe Lewis Karnes, son of John Wesley and Martha Ann Karnes was born June 11, 1875 at Edgar Springs, Mo., and passed away September 14, 1954 at St. Louis County Hospital.
He was united in marriage to Martha Ellen Hall in 1894. To this union 9 children were born. His wife preceded him in death March 23, 1935. Two children also preceded him in death, Mrs. Anna Lee Mace, Nov. 2, 1946 and Johnny Karnes, Dec. 31, 1945.
He leaves to mourn; four sons, Jess of Sherrill, Mo., Paul of Eureka, and Walter and Roy of St. Louis; and three daughters, Mrs. Alpha Stites of St. Louis, Mrs. Martha Stites of Edgar Springs, and Mrs. Eddie Hamby of Maples, Mo.; thirty-one grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Mrs. Marion Hall and Mrs. Henry Mace have also preceded him in death.
He spent most of his life at Edgar Springs, Mo. and he was a firm believer in the Church of Christ.
Funeral rites was conducted at the Evening Shade Chruch of Christ near Edgar Springs at 2 p.m. Thursday with Evangelist White officiating. Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery under the direction of Null and Sons of Rolla, Mo.
