Mrs. Ella May Davis
Ella May Davis, youngest daughter of James H. and Winifred Karns, was born on a farm four miles northeast of Ada on January 23, 1890. Here she lived until her marriage to Abraham C. Davis on April 8, 1908. To this union were born three children, Kenneth, Robert, and June. The family lived in the Salt Creek neighborhood, until 1925, when they moved to Liberty, Mo., and later to Millcreek, Okla, where they remained until the death of Mr. Davis. She then returned to Ottawa County to be near her brothers and sisters, and established a home in Delphos.
Preceding her in death were her husband, who passed away Sept. 8, 1958; two sons, Robert Keith, who died in infancy, and Kenneth, who gave his life in the service of his country in World War II; and two brothers who died in infancy. Mrs. Davis was a Gold Star Mother, and a member of Mountain-Reh Auxiliary of the V.F.W. of Minneapolis.
At an early age, she joined the Ada Antioch Baptist church, and was a devoted and faithful member of her church in all communities where she lived. She will also long be remembered as a good neighbor and friend.
Surviving are her devoted daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George Hagan of Houston, Texas; a grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. James Hagan of Atlanta, Ga.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Strickler of Houston, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoenes (daughter of her deceased son, Kenneth); and their two little daughters, who are Mrs. Davis' only great-grandchildren, all of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Clark of Ada, Mrs. Pearle K. Johnson, of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Bertha Prosser of Delphos; three brothers and their wives, Rolla and hazel Karns of Ada, Ralph and Ruth Karns of Newton, and Henry and Helen Karns of Junction City; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Haley Funeral Home, with Rev. C.A. Bodenhamer in charge. Mrs. Bill Hemenway provided organ music at the service, playing, at the request of Mrs. Davis, her favorite hymn, "Abide With Me."
Casket bearers were Frank Ethridge, John A. Nelson, Lee Ponton, Clyde Hogarty, Rolla Hogarty, and Craig Lancaster. Interment was in Fairview cemetery of Ada
