She was born July 25, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Flood) Markell, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Karp, in 1964. Bernie will be sadly missed by her loving family; children, Sharon (Leonard) Oddo, of North Huntingdon, Barbara (Larry) Breitenstein, of Oakmont, John (Pam) Karp, of North Huntingdon, and Eric Karp, of East McKeesport; beloved grandchildren, Rachel, Stephanie, Jennifer, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Lauren and Zachary; devoted siblings, Father John Markell and Mary Ida Markell, both of East McKeesport; also many dear and close friends. Bernadette was widowed at the early age of 37. She single handedly raised and educated four children while working full time and was very active in the local community. Her great sense of humor, passion for golf and enjoyment of St. Patrick's Day will be remembered by all as will her dedication to animals. She always provided shelter to dogs and cats and once even an injured crow.
