John,

It appears Prussia extended through much of Northern Germany in the 1800's. I found http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Rheinland had a link to Prussia that was useful.

We have some old pictures we think may be of Wilhelm Karpen and other relatives. The pictures are from Germany, and are of an older man. Does anyone have old family photos of this lineage that could help confirm our suspicions?
