Looking for Sarah Eliza Karr (alt. spellings Sara Elizabeth Carr)

I am looking for more information on Sarah Eliza KARR, my gr.gr.grandmother. I am unsure of her birthdate or place, but it could be c1826 in NY or c1832 in Ontario(census records have given conflicting information). She is the daughter of Moses Frary KARR (1787-1848) and Elizabeth JEROME(c1795-aft1853). Eliza married Waterman PLAYTER on 9 FEB 1848 in Whitby, Ontario. She had 12 children before Waterman died in 1874. On 26 Nov 1879 she mairied Amos POWERS (c1829-1887), son of Nathanial POWERS and Rabecca LA RUE, in Lindsay, Ontario. Amos was a widower when he married Eliza. After this she disappears.

Where and when was Eliza born? Where did she go to after she remarried? Where and when did she die? and where is she burried? Thanks. Steve.

Their son, James was married to a Sarah Cook and then a Sarah Thompson. He and his wife lived in Yates Co. NY and she died in Hancock Co., Illinosi. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have lots of Karr genealogy and would gladly share.

Seeking information on the Thelma KERR / KARR who married Robert Franklin CORBIN. At least one of their children was born in the 1950s, so Thelma was probably born ca. the 1920s. I'm trying to snag her in the 1930 census, but I don't have enough to go on to tell which Thelma KERR / KARR she is.

Sorry - a few corrections to my previous posting (maybe someday I'll learn to read these before I hit the submit button). John came to the US prior to 1800(not 1880). He married Nancy Welch (in April 1800)either in Pittsburg or Washington County, Penn. Their first three children were born in Washington County, Penn and later children were born in Harrison County, Ohio.

My great-great grandfather was Joseph Karr. He was born around September 1852 in either Kansas, Missouri, or Mississippi. He died in either December 1928 or 1929. He is buried in either Ryan Jefferson County, OK or Waurika, OK. I have been trying to find out when Joseph Karr died. I have looked and looked and I do not know what else I can do in order to find his date of death.

Joseph Karr married Susan Deal on June 17, 1883 in Fannin County, Texas. They had four children George Washington Karr (born February 26, 1884), John Franklin Henry Karr (born May 10, 1891 in Winthrop, AR), Mattie Karr, and Alice Karr. Alice Karr died around 1903 in Caddo, OK. Susan Deal died in 1893 and is buried in Winthrop, AR.
Jim was the son of George J. W. Carrey and Helga Erikson and raised by my grandfather ,Royal Scott Karr (his step father). He was my uncle but he is the one I have little info about. He died 14 Aug 1978 at Grand Rapids, Kent Co, MI and was an autoworker from what I remember. He had two wifes , Lorraine Vokal and Thelma (Van ?) Conant. I seek info on his marriage and children. I have found little thus far. His younger brother ,Russell B. (Carrey) Karr stayed close to his mother (Helga)during her lifetime so I knew him well but Jim was someone I only meet once or twice during my lifetime. Please let me know if you have any info.
Hi...I just read all the messages here and I even emailed some of you directly...I too am a decendent of David and Venie Karr...I am the great-great-granddaughter of Mollie Estella Karr (Scott). I have the same picture of David and Venie with their 12 surviving children (although if someone could help me identify who is who that would be great). I would also like to find out as much as I can about their family line...anything on the maternal or paternal sides...I have some information, but not everything...and it seems like some of you have more. I am also willing to share any of the decendant information I have...and would like to get some of that information from you fellow cousins as well.

In addition to the family picture I do have a picture of David and Venie's headstone...if anyone else is interested.

I am looking forward to hearing from some of you cousins!!!

Elisabeth Cooper-Pilgrim

Robert and/or John Karr 1700's

John Karr was said to have been born in 1776
His father (?) Robert was said to have been born in 1749.
Robert and perhaps John were said to have been born in Northern Ireland from Scottish stock but may have been from Scotland direct. Robert was said to have arrived in the US early enough to have fought in the Revolutionary War (1776). Thought to have been in Pennsylvania. John may or may not have been born in Ireland/Scotland but Pa. is more likely. Trying to sort myth from reality. The names Donegal and Londonderry pop up but then there place names in Pa. that are the same. I am more into Danish genealogy so Ireland/Scotland research is new to me. Thanks for any help.

John and Nancy Welch Karr were married in Washington County PA in 1800. The family moved (apparently between 1810 and 1820) to Harrison County OH. Many of their children and descendants settled in Coscocton County OH, and some moved west to Iowa, Illinois and at times (through about 1900) in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. John and Nancy died in Guernsey County OH in 1844 and 1849 respectively.

The descendants of John and Nancy that are researching their origins and attempting to locate John's and Nancy's parents/siblings have formed a website on myfamily to exchange and research further information. Of course, we are also interested in locating any cousins and members of our extended family.

If you think you are related to this branch of the Karr family and are intereted in participating in our website, please send me an e-mail in order for us to explore our possible mutual family.

Betty
BCordial@aol.com
I am searching for the parents of my Rev. War ancestor, John C. Ker/Kerr/Karr. He was born in 1759 in New Jersey and died in McLean County, IL, in 1840. He also served in the War of 1812 in the Ohio Militia,. He moved from New Jersey to Hamilton County, OH, around 1810, then to Illinois in 1839. We think that he is a descendant of Walter Ker who was banned from Scotland and arrived in Perth Amboy, NJ, in 1685, on the ship Henry and Francis.

Karr's of Kentucky and Missouri

Hi, I am beginning to research my father's family and would like any information on the following family members. This is what I know:
Harrison Karr , my great great grandfather, born abt. 1814 in Kentucky married Mary Jane Stepp/Stapp born abt. 1822 in Kentucky. They were married in Madison County, Kentucky on September 25, 1843. They were the parents of William (1849), John F. (1851) my great grandfather, Martha (1852) Sarah (1859) all born in Kentucky and Mary M. (1861) born in Gentry County, Missouri. Harrison donated land and help to build the Karr School on the edge of King City, Missouri. It is said that most of the family is buried in the Karr Cemetery, which so far can't be found. This family is found in the 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 census for Gentry Co. Missouri. My grandfather was Claude Clark Karr who married Lillian Elizabeth Noland. My father is Loyd Alvin Karr born November 6, 1912 in King City. I know my father lived in King City until about 1940 when he married my mother. My parents divorced when I was very young and my father remarried at least 4-5 times after that. He was living in Colorado when he died in 1999. Any help would be appreciated. I have a little more on John and William that maybe would help someone else. Thanks
Maude & Samuel Karr/Carr (b abt 1859) of Whitley Co., KY

This couple, mainly Maude, is causing me all kinds of grief! In the 1910 Whitley Co., KY census, Maude and Samuel Karr have been married for 9 years. There are two children: Minnie Davis (12) and Oscar (1). Maude was apparently married several times. Minnie's father may have been Fred Davis. By 1920, Maude and Samuel are divorced, Maude is married to J. W. "Walker" Dunn and living in Knoxville, TN where she died in 1961 at age 83. Samuel apparently never remarried. He died in 1931 at age 72 and is buried in Whitley Co., KY. His certificate of death says he was a sawyer by trade, His parents are listed as Jacob and Annie Roberts Carr of Tennessee. Oddly enough, Maude and Samuel's son, Oscar, appears to have later adopted the surname Allen. Is anyone familiar with this couple? Any enlightenment whatsoever would be much appreciated!

John Rosswell Karr Sr., Jr., and III

John Rosswell Karr Jr. is my father, and he currently resides in NC with his wife of the last 14 years or so, she is somewhat younger than him. He lived as a young man in Philadelphia with his parents and was a teacher or educator of some sort, and got involved with a woman a few years his senior, who also happened to be married and was already the mother of 5 children. Long story short, she finds herself single, they have a baby together that they gave up for adoption (me), then a few short years later they get married. They move from Philadelphia to West Palm Beach Florida. Then they have another child, John Rosswell Karr III, my only full blood sibling, who they do raise.

Since my father would rather I didn't exist, the only way to obtain information about my background is to find other family. I am trying to go backwards in time, then sideways familially, then forwards to find more living family hopefully. It worked with my mom's family, as she is deceased 15 years now.

John Rosswell Karr Jr. would have been born approximately 1936, give or take a year or two. John Rosswell Karr III was born in approximately 1970.

Thank you!

George Karr Harris was my ggggrandfather. Born in Virginia in 1799. Married Mary Kackley in Virginia in 1819. Family tradition has it that he was quite proud of the Karr name and generally used his full name.
However in my researches, he is a brick wall. I have found nothing so far on his ancestry. So, I'm wondering if any of the Karr folks using this forum might have connections to Virginia in the late 1700s which might be useful.

Frank Siegle

James Karr/Carr Father of John W. Karr

I am seeking marriage date and maiden name for wife (Martha)of James Karr/Carr. In 1840 KY Census they were living in Simpson Co. with one male child, John William Karr b. 1838. No Simpson Co. before 1882 are available from the Court House records. I know that Martha died sometime before 1857, when John W. was married in MO. (He is my gggrandfather). I have found James Karr/Carr living in Jackson Co. MO in 1860, 1870, 1880 with his second wife Martha Francis Capell (married 1860 Jackson Co. MO). Have no clue as to date or maiden name of first wife. I believed they may around 1838. James was born about 1815 and Martha, first wife, around 1817 both in KY. please respond via email: mellonpark@netscape.com thanks, C.
Messages on Robert M. Karr/Robert Karr/Lytle

I've read the postings about the above with great interest, because it appears that we are all related. Our family history shows that Robert M. Karr (born 10-13-34) was the son of Robert and Mary Endsley Karr. Robert M. Karr's older brother was Andrew Karr, my ggrandfather.

Robert Karr (Robert M's and Andrew's father) was born in Washington County, PA, the oldest son of John and Nancy Welch Karr (see the first few postings on this message board). Robert and Mary Endsley were married in Harrison County, Ohio in 1825. They subsequently moved to Coschocton County, Ohio. Both are bured in the Keene Presbyterian Cemetery in Keene, Ohio. Some of Robert's and Mary's children migrated west to Illinois (primarily Paxton area). Other children and grandchildren of John and Nancy Karr migrated to Illinois, Iowa and other points west.

The descendants of John and Nancy Welch Karr have set up a private website through myfamily.com, in order to exchange information, research, photos and family history (old and new). The site also has an electronic version of the Karr Family History, compiled around 1957 and containing all information known at the time about John and Nancy's descendents. If you are a descendant of John and Nancy and interested in becoming a member or participating in the website, please let me know and we'll make sure that you're sent the information for accessing the site.

We've posted some old family reunion photos from the early 1900s, so you might recognize some of your ancestors.

My e-mail address is BCordial@aol.com

Betty

Karr, John

I am searching for any additional information available about the parents, brothers or sisters of John Karr, born July 6, 1776 in Donegal County, Ireland. Came to the United States sometime before 1880, as family info indicates he first went to Philadelphia, then to Pittsburg, where he married Nancy Welch (also born in Ireland in 1776)in 1800. They then moved on to Harrison County, Ohio, where there first three children were born. Their oldest son was Robert, born in 1801. Robert and other family members later moved to Coshocton County, Ohio. John and Nancy moved to Londonderry, Ohio, where he died March 18, 1844. A lot of information is available from John forward, but cannot locate anything about his parents or siblings. Family stories indicate that John was somehow related to the Karr's in New Hampshire and New York. Two other family stories: (1) two brothers came from Ireland, landing in New Orleans and went north on the Mississippi River; during the night one brother fell off the raft and set up his home where he swam ashore (my father thought this was maybe Tennessee); the family up north didn't learn that the other brother was still alive until years later (no indication if the brother traveling north was John - only that they were somehow related). (2) Three brothers immigrated from Ireland to New York; the youngest brother was kidnapped by indians and wasn't able to escape for 19 years; when he returned to the town in New York, his other two brothers had moved on west and he never met up with them again; again, there is no indication if one of these brothers was John, or how he might have been related to this story.

Some of John's children, or grandchildren later moved to Illinois and Indiana.

Any information (or suggestions on where I might search) for information on John would be very much appreciated.

Betty
