Reis Kash -- I would like to contact you and discuss your most recently discovered links of John Cash to his predecessors from Scotland or N Ireland. My father, Dr. Roy M. Kash of Mt. Sterling, Ky., I believe knew you as I remember him talking of you. I am now just starting to review our geneology after retiring from practice of ophthalmology here in Wilmington, NC. I am also fascinated about your description of James Cash in Morgan Co. Ky. with the alternate use of C and K , and finally ending with a K on a permanent basis. How did you document this ?? My E-mail address is : slkashmd@aol.com . Very much looking forward to any response you might have and finding out where you reside. Stephen Lee Kash, MD If anyone else in our family has knowledge of these, or related matters, please let me know. Thanks

Margaret,
I see that it's been awhile that my father or I have posted. I'm very interested in knowing more about John Kelly Kash. We are very "in the dark" about him. All we know is that my great grandfather Harlen wrote his name as his biological father on his military papers. Harlan did not know John personally so the name "Kash" as we know it only goes as far back as Harlan. We definitely would like to know more about our family and I'm sure John's family would like to know about us as well.

Charles
John Kelly was married to Nell White, nothing on her. Daughter named Lina. This is from the World Family tree. They had a daughter, Lina. interestinlgy, John's brother, Oliver was married to a woman named Lina for a while; could be an interesting story. Anyhow, Harlen was born in Farmers, KY on 20 may, 1893 which would have put John around 15 yrs old, might be why he didn't marry Harlens mother, Maggie Ramey. No record of a marrage but Harlen listed John as his father on his military records. Although he never mentioned his father, Harlen did say once that John tried to contact him but he wasn't interested since he was raised by his step father. So, up to this point I really haven't had any hard evidence that john kelly is Harlens father only that he lived in the next county, which could have been next door. But if he is Harlens father then I would enjoy having any thing you have on Alfred Cope Kash and beyond.
Dear Wendy,

I just re-read your message and see you might be going today to do some research. Maybe this will help:

James Cash/Kash - b. 5 Feb 1772, place of birth unknown - perhaps Prince George's County, MD. Married Dec 17, 1791, Greenbriar County, VA (now West Virginia). Died March 7, 1851 at Hazel Green, KY. Wife was Phebe Lacey, b. 9 Apr 1774 in Virginia. Died after 1855 in Hazel Green, KY.

Re: John Cash, Rev War soldier and husband of Rachel McAllister (his service, their marriage documented in Virginia county records of which I have references). According to DAR files, this John Cash died 1805 at Iredelle County, NC, his wife having pre-deceased him.

Hope this helps,

Reis Kash

I'm looking at a copy of some pages from a book titled "Early and Modern History of Wolfe County Compiled by Wolfe County Woman's Club Campton, Ky, Mrs. Roy M. Cecil, Chariman of Committee for Compilation," not dated, which I obtained from a researcher at the LDS Genealogical Library, Los Angeles, pp 161-163, which quotes Caesar Hurst's book, not otherwise identified.

"James and Caleb Kash were the first two by this name to come to Kentucky form Greenbriar County, Va. James Kash married Phoebe Lacy (sister of Lucy "Lacy" Trimble.. .. . . their children:

Rachel Elizabeth
Caleb married Polly Wilson
James married
Lucretia married
Nancy married
William Kash married Sally Cope. Children of William Kash and Sally Cope were:

Levi Kash married Molly O'rear of Montgomery County, Ky, and served as a captain in the Confederate Army.

James married Dulcenia Hurst, setlted in Montgomery Co
Alfred married Emily Jane Hurst
Caleb married Miss Strong (daughter of Ned) Breathitt County
Priscilla married John Strong, Breathitt Co,
Phoebe married Robert Barnett, went to Kansas
Polly Ann married Stephen Carpenter, Breathitt County,
Elizabeth Married Green Williams, to Oklahoma
Miranda married John C. Calhoun"
I'll copy this and mail it to you if you want it. I also have pulled about two inches of documents, some of which you may want -- like the DAR approved applications for two women based on relationship to John Cash, who served in Virginia and Pennsylvania Militias and is the father of James Cash/Cash.

I have some other secondary sources which give dates of birth and marriages which I will copy and send on or at least make a summary.

Thanks for the email address. It will be a little easier to communicate with that. My email is bowpark1@msn.com.

Reis
Dear Marilyn:

The surgery is no longer a problem -- it's finding time to do genealogy with some other catch-up things.

So far I haven't gotten into my hard copy notes - but here's something on William and his wife, Sarah Cope, who were married, I think, on 21 Mar 1827. Sarah's parents were James P. Cope, b. 1786 in N.C., d. 1857 at Quicksand, Breathitt, KY. His wife was Mary Hamman. Their children included Levi, Sarah, Elizabeth, James, and others. Mary Hamman's parents were Phillip Hamman and Christinia (LNU), probably Cooper. They were married 1806 at Montgomery County, KY.

The Feb 2000 edition of Kentucky Explorer, pp. 13/14, contains a panoramic photograph of Hazel Green, Kentucky, dating from 1897 with the homes/offices of four Kashes shown. At that time my ancestor, Reece Raney Kash, who had married Laura Swetnam, lived outside Hazel Green so they are not included in the photograph. The Kash families included Joseph Kash's cemetery, R. A. Kash's home, Mrs Ellen Kash's home, Doctor J. M. Kash's home, and the law office of R. A. Kash. Also named were families intermarried with Kashes as far back as Augusta County, VA (circa 1770) including Pieratt, Swango, Nickell, and Trimble.

I'll check further on William Kash and Priscilla -- I think they are in a cite "Early Kentucky Families," printed circa 1920's of which I have extracts.

Reis Kash

I am sorry I took so long to respond - back surgery. I show James Kash and Phebe Lacy (Phoebe Lacey) had a son, William who was born 1798, married Sarah Cope and settled on the Quicksand River in Eastern Kentucky. They had 9 children. The name Priscilla and Levi Strong both ring a bell and I have written records I will check for these people. I did not do a complete write up on William because I am not in that direct line. I have found some info on his children with Rachel McAllister. My husbands family is descended from James Cash/Kash in Kentucky. I will be going to the University Genealogy Library to look through their records. Please email me if you have any info.
Thanks,
Wendy Kash
