What all do you have on your Talacko line? My great grandfather, Rudolf Talacko, came from Prague in 1912. Are you in Eastern Nebraska or have roots there?

Hubatka

Hi
my father George (Jiri) Hubatka, escaped from czechoslovakia during the 2nd world war. his father was Francis Hubatka, mother Anna ?. when my dad escaped he was 18 or around that age and he was a count. dad visited the hubatka crib in Slaney before he left. he believed that he was the only Hubatka alive in the country at the time apart from his sister. he left behind the Hubatka restaurant in station 9 as his mother and father had both died. he fled to australia and joined the fight to democratise his home land. we are the only Hubatkas in Australia that i know of and to learn that more of you exist in the world is a real buzz. dad told me that the only two from the Hubatka line was his father and uncle that didnt have any children because he died in an accident at a young age. so im thinking that i need to go further up the ladder. what i do know is that we have an unbroken line of males in our ancestry and that we had a family registry book that went back until at least the 16 century. dad believes that he remembers 14 century dates in this book. it was left with the restaurant but has since dissapeared. dad also said that we had a brick making factory. does any of this ring any bells. email me so we can communicate. love Patrick Hubatka

Joseph Kasperek

12 August 1929 Tonawanda News
Goes To River To Take Bath, Boy, 20, Is Drowned
Joseph Kasperek, 31 15th Avenue, Thought Seized with Cramps-Police Recovered His Body at 1 P.M. Today
A pair of trousers, a shirt, a pair of shoes, a suit of underwear and a bar of soap on the bank of the Niagara river at the cinder dump, opposite Ward road, gave North Tonawanda police a clue to a drowning at 8 o'clock Saturday evening. The victim was Joseph Kasperek, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kasperek of 31 15th avenue.
Went to Take Bath
Police learned young Kasperek went to the river bank at 6:30 Saturday evening, immediately after eating his supper to take a bath. They believe he swam out into the water and was seized with cramps. He was alone and a fair swimmer, according to officers who investigated.
Clothing found on the cinder dump was yesterday identified at police headquarters by relatives as belonging to the boy. Youths walking along the river bank Saturday evening saw the pile of clothing and notified police.
The water is shallow for about 10 feet from shore at the point where Kasperek was swimming. It then takes an abrupt drop to a depth of 10 to 15 feet.
The body was recovered at 1 o'clock this afternoon near the point where the clothing was found. Patrolmen William Bailey and Andrew Rasch were in charge of the grappling.
Hi Kathe,
Indeed, the plot thickens. John E. was from Bohemia which is now part of Czech Republic. The family came through Austria on the journey to America and the passport was issued in Austria. John E. was m. to Anna (last name unknown) b. 1842 and they came over with 10 children some of whom were Joesef, b. 1861, Maria, b.1863, Johann, b. 1866, Anton, b. 1870, Alois, b. 1872, Josefa, b. 1874, Karl, b.1875. I can't read the other three names but intend to visit the Czech-American Center in St. Louis for some help. So far, what you have sounds right--some missing names though. Hopefully when I'm in Tulsa for Thanksgiving, I'll find some more information. I recall reading the death notice for Anna and it listed the siblings. I'll keep digging for more and will be in touch. I remember Charlotte quite well and we have a couple of antique items from her home which she gave to my sister and me many years ago. I'll keep digging.

(from Austria)m. ? who dies when son, Edward Phillip was age 6.
Also only have Anna's parents: Amelia Kasperek m. Antoine Talacko (from Moravia)Supposedly there were Anna's sibs (4?),the only sister I know is Charlotte "Lottie" m. Phil Petrasek. Then nebulous connections. Does this all sound right?

Kathe, indeed this is exciting! I've been searching for some time looking for information on the Hubatka/Talacko families. My sister, Diane Hubatka Pense died in October and before her death she wanted to make certain that I got hold of some family records. Regretfully, I've not yet been able to locate a written history of the family that if I understand correctly, was either compiled by Mabel or her sister Dorothy, sent to my dad Louis who had given it to my sister prior to his death in 1989. I'll will be with Diane's husband for Thanksgiving and together we are going to try and locate the history. I'll keep you posted on our progress and will be delighted to share it with you. In the meantime, feel free to email me at: donhubatka@earthlink.net. BTW, I live in St. Louis, MO and my sister lived in Tulsa, OK. I've also recently been in touch with Jamie Farrah, who is a daughter of Mabel and is also interested in the family history.

I am the grandson of Edward Phillip Hubatka and Anna Tillian Talacko Hubatka. My father, Louis Donald Hubatka (1905-1989) was the son of Edward and Anna and was the brother of Mabel Anna Hubatka who was my aunt. I have the original passport used by the family of Johann Hubatka when they came to America from Sedlec, Horovice, Bohemia Country in 1880. Edward Phillip was the only child born in America. All of his 10 brothers and sisters were born in Bohemia (Czech). Copies of the passport are available by emailing me.
