Do you know anything at all about the Kassners? I, too, am looking for a John G. Kassner who would have been my great grandfather. He had two daughters and one son, Oscar Paul.
One of the daughters was named Lena and later married a Potter. I may have one very old picture of her - not the greatest but I'd be glad to e-mail or send you a scanned copy if you'll provide the e-mail or postal address. You can e-mail me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
My grandfather was very close-mouthed about his past, but the family story goes that when he was very young his mother passed away and the father deserted the family. At this point the story varies depending on who you get it from. Allegedly the two daughters were taken in by relatives. Not sure who took in Oscar, but the story goes that he was treated poorly and ran away. A Mrs. Tessa Tharp and her husband found him wandering on the streets of Butler, MO and took him in. He grew up in their house. The picture I have of Lena Potter shows her with my grandmother (Oscar's wife) when they were both young women (20s'30's). My grandmothers handwriting on the back indicates it is Lena Potter. The family was supposed to be originally from Germany/Prussia. My grandfather's obit and social security info indicates he was born in Osawatomie, Kansas in the early 1890s. (Sorry but I don't have the info in front of me at the moment.) But, as I said, let me know if you'd like a copy of the picture. I take it the Kassners are a mystery to you too. I look forward to sharing info with you in the future.
