We are the Kath family from Penkuhl Pomerania West Prussia now in Minnesota and North Dakota. Our ancestor August Kath married Louise Held and came to this country with seven sons. I have found some other information of Kaths who were in both those states before them in the early 1900s.

The Kath family I am researching came from Roggow in Kreis Belgard which is in Hinter Pomerania. Do you know what Kreis your Kath family came from? Have you checked out Kartenmeister or Pommern-L ? There are some great resources for Pomeranian genealogy.

Only one of the 6 children of Heinrich Kath and Anna Kaske went to Minnesota (so far as I know).

Wilhelm Kath (1841-1914) married Pauline Rusch (1844-1929) in Pomerania ca 1864, immigrated to Wisconsin in 1868, and moved to Wilkin County MN in 1879. They had Franz b. 1866, Emil b. 1868, Louis b. 1869, F. Herman b. 1870, Friedrich b./d. 1872, William b. 1873, Infant b/d. 1873, August b. 1875 d 1876, Amanda b. 1877, Anna b. 1878, Lena b. 1880, Reinhardt b. 1882, Paul b. 1884, Anna b. 1884, Clara b. 1888, Friedrich b. 1889.

Do any of these names or locations match any of your records?

The only Kaske I paid any attention to was my great great great grandmother -- Anna Christine Kaske, age 18, daughter of Budner Friedrich Kaske from Roggow, married Heinrich Carl Kath, Kanist in Roggow on 18 Sep 1835, with her parents' permission. There may have been other Kaske entries in the records, but I was focusing on Kaths - sorry.

If you think your Kaske family might be from Roggow, look into the Roggow Civil Records 1874-81 at the LDS Family History Centers films # 1335979 and 1335980 and the Belgard Church Records (contains Roggow and other villages) in LDS Films #1496967 and 1496968. This is where I found my Kath relatives.

Also, there is a whole website devoted to Kreis Belgard (Kreis-Belgard@yahoogroups.de), and you may find other people researching the Kaskes there. Good hunting.

I have extensive but not complete information about this family. They are children of Heinrich Carl Kath b. 1807 and Anna Christine Kaske b. 1817 in Roggow, Kreis Belgard. They immigrated between 1866 and 1881 to the US, and most lived for some time in Janesville, WI, including those who moved to Minnesota. Would like to fill in blanks and share what I have.

Magdeline Kath Holtzheimer....any links?

Barbara,

I can't give you a direct link, but I can give you what I know of Kaths in my family....

Jacob Krueger married Dorothea Maria Kath in Schwessin, Pomerania on 9 NOV 1804. They were the parents of at least one son, Daniel Jacob Krueger, b. 20 SEPT 1812 in Zewelin and d. 19 APR 1889 in Schwessin. End of Kath link to me.... 1804

Dorothea Maria's father was named Christian Kath - all I know about him was that he was a shepherd in Mersin. Perhaps there were sons? And your Kath was a great-grandson? I don't think Mersin was in the Black Forest area, however - I have no idea, really.

Dorothea's son Daniel Jacob married Fredrike Wilhelmine Caroline Post (b. 17 MAY 1816 in Seidel) on 14 NOV 1834. They had at least four children together....Louise, Henry, Fred and Frank (and there is a rumor that Daniel had an illegitimate daughter named Martha).

P>Louise Krueger (Kruger) married Wilhelm Tribbensee in Schwessin....

Does any of this match up with your family information? If I was of no help then I apologize for wasting your time....perhaps someone else could use the information.

C-

If your grandmother was from Woodbridge NJ, there has to be a connection to my ancestors. My father was Arnold James Kath, his father was John or James (Jack) Kath, and his father was Ferdinand Kath. All from Woodbridge, NJ. My grandfather, (still trying to find out whether his legal name was James or John) had brothers named Frederick, Thomas, Martin, and a sister Florence. His father Ferdinand was born Dec. 12, 1871 and died Jan. 1963. I have just begun my research and plan on visiting the cemetary where Ferdinand is buried this weekend.
