Louise was sister of Ruth Allen Kathan,w/o B F Kathan,b/o Roscoe.

Hi
After checking censuses for Lewis co. Watson, and Lowville, NY.
I found that Earl K was born to Isaac and Francis Bowman Feb 1879. So it looks like you could be related to the first poster.
Still don't know where the Kathan name comes in but in might be maiden name of mother or grandmother.

I ran accross this old message, and decided to look up Isaac and Earl.
Start with the 1850 census Lewis co, Watson,NY
John Bowman 44 & w/Mary 46, sons Charles 13, Isaac 11, and Thomas 7.
On 1870 Isaac is married to Francis,even tho it looks like Frank.
Isaac,40, Francis,32, Mary E, 3, Charles,2,Nellie,1 and mother Mary living with them.
on 1880
add Lora A 8. Ida M 5 and Earl K age 1

1900 they are now in Lewis co Lowville NY
Isaac b/Nov 1839, Francis b/ Aug 1846, Earl b/Feb 1879, Fred b/ Jan 1882, and Cora,b/ Apr 1885.

Have you checked out the maiden names of Mary or Francis?
I think this is where your Kathan name will fit in.

There was an Isaac b/1840-1 in Hamilton,NY and at first I started down that line but back tracked to John & Mary

Don't know if this will help or not, or if you have found out about Earl Kathan Bowman, If you have please let me know how he fits into the Kathan line.

Hello, I am looking for my Dad's Father. My Father is John H. Kathan and was born in 1947. His Father was John Lincoln Kathan, was born in Detroit??, retired from Minute Maid company and California and was injured in WWII. Any information would be appreciated? He has not seen or heard from his Father since he was very young and I am putting together our family tree.

There is a marriage of one Israel Smith and Ruth Kathan in the "Kathan History-1901" book by David L Mansfield. Does anyone have knowledge of their children? My Israel Smith and wife Ruth have children: John, Emeline, Israel, Cornelia, Dorinda and Charles born in VT and Jeanette born in NY. Do any of these names ring a bell in your data base? Sorry, but my only Earl Bowman was born in Watson, NY, in about 1870, and none of his nieces, nephews, or children is named Earl and none live(d) around Binghamton. Good luck, though.

I don't know anything about the Kathan middle name, but I am responding because I am trying madly to find info on my grandfather, Earl Bowman, unknown middle initial or name. He lived in Binghamton, NY and died in the 60's. Sister name was Maud or Maude, unsure of spelling. He was born in 1907 and lived most of his life in Binghamton, NY. My mom is his daughter, but she has no info. Would this be a member of your family as well?

Earl Kathan Bowman, 1879-1956,
Lewis County, NY, was my grandfather.
Our family can find no other connection with
the name Kathan. We would like to know how
he happened to be given that middle name.
His father, Isaac Bowman, 1839-1906, fought
in a New York regiment in the Civil War.
I have wondered if he named his son after
someone he knew in the war. Any information would be
appreciated.
