I am a second generation Kathman. My grandfather Kathman came to US in middle 1880 and settled in Nebraska later moving to Muenster, Texas. My father migrated to New Mexico at an early age and worked on a ranch as a cowhand. He married my mother who came to New Mexico to homestead on 160 acres of free land. (you live on it 5 years and develope it and got title to it) I was born 1916 in a Dugout. Half under ground and half above. My father later gave up farming and and went in the Building business. I graduated Texas Technological University in 1940 in January 1941 was inducted into the US Army. Sent Phillippines in Sept 1941 and was at Clark Field in the Philippines when the Japs hit Pearl Harbor and 4 hours later it Clark Field. I was made a POW of the Japanese when Bataan fell.in April 1942. I was a POW for 3.5 years surviving the Bataan death March and other discomforts associated with POW life. I retired from the Dallas Times Herald after 35 years in 1981. I am active in all the Masonic bodies. I have one son and three grand children. My Son is an Computer analyst. My grand son Jason is a Sophmore at Texas Technological University. We have been doing some research along with a Cousin in Albuquerque Ron Kathman on our Kathman branch. We have checked back to Kathmans that lived in Oldenberg, Germany. Two brothers migrated to US. (My Grandfather and a Great Uncle who settled in Denver and became a Doctor. Some of the other brothers went to Belgium and it is through one distant relative, Ben Kathmann in Belgium that we were able to do all this research.
