Hi, I am Carolyn Kathmann Muceus. I read your father's book and I am interested in learning more about where he lived in Sugar Land Tx. I have lived here in Sugar Land for 28 years and would like to know where your grandparents farm was. I have talked to people about the book and people mentioned in it. The sugar factory and elementary school are still here but they don't have any records from 1924.I am still trying to research the information I have and I have a general idea where your family lived but I would like to be able to say it was in an exact area of Suger Land. I would also like to find out how we are related.

I read your post with much interest! I am
researching my husband's side, the connection
here being Elizabeth M. "Lillie" Bernsen(Bernzen) who
married Otto Kathmann(born 15 March 1864 in
Quincy, IL). #NOTE I have Otto's middle initial
as A., not C, or Clemens.
I was told that her family did not want this
marriage to happen, although the reason was
because the Kathman(n) family had Tuberculosis.
No mention was made of Emma Panhorst or Isabel Stickman.
I cannot verify or dispel this, however, I will
be looking into this.
Lillie died (of TB, contracted after their
marriage) on 25 Aug 1900. She died at their
home at 20th Vine (about 3 blocks down from
Spring Street). Otto went out west (I believe
to Arizona, to try to improve his health
(also had TB), however it did not improve and
he returned to Quincy, where he died 09 Sep 1908
at 1844 Spring St. in Quincy. Otto and Lillie
are both buried in St. Boniface Cemetery (Catholic)
in Quincy, IL.
If anyone is researching Otto A. or his
parents, Clemens and Mary (Metzger) Kathmann,
I would love to hear from you!

I am researching a Kathmann family that lived in the Quincy Illinois area from about 1880. This is what I have:

Descendants of Clemens Kathmann

Generation No. 1

1. CLEMENS1 KATHMANN was born 10 January 1818, and died 18 May 1887. He married MARY ANN METZGER 19 February 1852 in Adams County, Illinois.

Notes for CLEMENS KATHMANN:

1866 Quincy City Directory
by O. E. Root:
KATHMANN CLEMENS, dealer in dry goods, groceries and grain, and pork packer, 196 Maine se cor Seventh; res same.

Children of CLEMENS KATHMANN and MARY METZGER are:
2. i. OTTO CLEMENS2 KATHMANN, b. 1864.
ii. ANTON J. KATHMAN, m. DEANA KOESYAN, 5 December 1903, Adams County, Illinois.
iii. FRANK H. KATHMAN, m. BLANCHE BUSCHMAN, 14 June 1911.

Generation No. 2

2. OTTO CLEMENS2 KATHMANN (CLEMENS1) was born 1864. He met (1) EMMA WILHEMINE PANHORST, daughter of JOHANN MUELLER and EMILIE PANHORST. He married (2) LILLIE M.. He married (3) ROSA M. GEERS 5 October 1916.

Notes for OTTO CLEMENS KATHMANN:
Otto Kathmann was the natural father of Isabel Stickman, he and Isabel's natural mother, Emma W. Panhorst were not married.

Received a reply on a Kathman Inquirary 27 Jun 2000 :

For: Clark Wilson
There may be more than one Otto Kathman in the Adams county area. A Ben Kathman replied to my message board query on 30 June 00. He said:

In my familytree I have an Otto A. Kathmann, born 15-3-1864 in Quincy,
IL, USA. He was married with Lizzie Bernzen, location St. Louis, MO,
USA.
He was the son of Clemens Kathmann and Mary. The birthdate of Clemens
should be around 1827.
Otto had 7 brothers and sisters :
Bernard Kathmann, b. 20-2-1848 in Quincy, IL.
Clemens Kathmann,b. 19-9-1854 " " "
Henry Kathmann, b. 13-5-1857 " " " Henry and John
are twins.
John Kathmann, b. 13-5-1857
Anna Katherine Kathmann, b. 26-11-1861 in Quincy, IL.
Martin Kathmann, b. 18-6-1869 in Quincy, IL
Marie Elizabeth Kathmann, b. 11-6-1873 in Quincy, IL.

I hope this is of any help.

Ben Kathmann
Netherlands

Posted by: B.H.J. Kathmann Date: January 24, 2000

I try to record and put in a familytree, all relatives of our German ancestor Bernard Heinrich Hubertus KATHMANN, born 21-09-1816 in Lohe, kreis Vechta, Nieder-Sachsen. He was a sailor and married Hendrika SLAMAN, born 9-10-1819 in Pijnacker. They married in Vlaardingen, 20-7-1842. Any information from relatives and/or related families is welcome on my E-mail address or postal address. I would like to get in touch with living relatives.

B.H.J. Panhorst's natural parents were Julie Panhorst and Johann Mueller who were not married. Emma assumed her mother's maiden name Panhorst, and was raised by her maternal grandparents, Henry and Willemina Panhorst. Emma was born and raised in Quincy, Illinois. She was a dress maker. She married Henry Stickman on 30 Oct 1884. To Emma and Henry Stickman was born one child, Violet W. Stickman. Henry Stickman died on 18 Sep 1885. Emma had a second child, Isabel Bertha who was born on 13 Jul 1889, out of wedlock, the father being a man named Otto Kathman. Emma later remarried Jack Fusselman on 2 Mar 1898. To Emma and Jack Fusselman was born one child, Blanche, on 22 Sep 1898. Emma's dress making business was operated out of her home on 2077 Spring Street, Quincy, Illinois, the house which she built in 1890 and lived in for the rest of her life.

Notes for LILLIE M.:
Her name could possibly be Lizzie.
Caroline KATHMANN - b. 1825 GA

Caroline appears on the 1850 Memphis census. She then appears on the 1900 Scott Co. Iowa census along with William and Robert. Is she related to Barney's and Joseph's families as well? Does anyone know about the earlier Memphis connection? Or about her daughter Anna and husband E. Kathmann?

Re: Louis KATHMANN

Louis Kathmann is my uncle. His sisters name is Kathy Kathmann Marshall who died in 1980 (she is my mother) Louis Kathmanns mother is my grandmother Jean Marie Kathmann who is presently living with me. I have heard about you and what happened to your mother years ago. I am sorry for your loss. I am searching for your biological sister who has the same name as you. As children we were pretty close, but grew apart through the years as our lifestyles were dramatically different. She did come to visit me once about four years ago. My grandmother Jean Kathmann often thinks of you and your family. I am very close with my grandmother. I was her first grandchild born Jan. 2, 1966 to her daughter who was only 16 at the time. I have never been close to Louis (your biological father) because he has never made an effort nor has he any interest in his own mother or her whereabouts. What a shame it is. Maybe one day we will hear from you if you are interested. I have always wondered about you because we would have been very close in age and maybe grown up together. My name is Sherry Marshall-Tromatore. Email me at sherrytrom@aol.com
