I'm not a Kattes descendant, but descended from the Morton's, Harkins', and Strickland's that married into the Kattes family. My website is www.tribalpages.com/tribes/jonstewart. I have some Kattes photos, particularly the Elizabeth Paulen Kattes Morton family

Family connection with Eli. Harriet Jane Reid was a sister to Emily Reid, my g-g-grandmother. I don't have any info for you on Eli's family. I do have some on Harriet's family.

Bill
cwcox56@netzero.net

There may be a connection to the Kates that are from Cumberland County NJ which I believe used to be part of Salem County. Micheal P. Kates was born 1842 and was a waterman. I know that there have been changes to the name along the way and it has had several variations in spelling.

Katts/Kattes from Salem, NJ

My mothers family name is Kattes. I have traced them from Texas back to Joseph Samuel Katts, born August, 1808 in Upper Alloway Creek, Salem Co, New Jersey. He married Elizabeth Clark Arones, daughter of Samuel Arones and Mary Clark in Mannington, Salem Co, NJ, March 28, 1829. The surname of 8 of their 9 children changed from Katts to Kattes (note double T and pronounced like "gates", not "cats").

Does anyone find a "fit" with this bunch. I would appreciate any help finding more Katts in this area (or anywhere). The Kattes bunch appear to be few in number. Thanks.
