Obit for DONENFELD, Stanley ~ Dayton, Montgomery County, OH on 1 August 2008

Source: Stanley's obit was just posted to the Dayton Daily Newspaper on August 2, 2008

Stanley Ray DONENFELD, whose family’s specialty store was a shopping destination for Miami Valley women for decades, died Friday, Aug. 1. He was 87.

==========================================================

I'm not related to Stanley; but, I did know him. Having grown up in Dayton, I left there to move to FL in 1982. I loved shopping at his family's wonderful DONENFELD store in days when I worked at the First National Bank of Dayton and Winters Bank. His store was from an era when there was personal attention given to each customer....service long gone today. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. May God bless and keep him forever.

Best regards,

Pamela WELLS nee ROBERSON
Blowing Rock, NC
http://wellsp.tribalpages.com

========================================================

Any Katz families out there found a connection to Perlmutter family?

My family was not close so I've gotten very little information even on my own grandparents (who passed away before I was born). But one cousin told me that we were related to Perlmutters (I'm guessing by some marriage). Unfortunately, she had no other information.

So I'm hoping that in their own family search someone here has come across a Perlmutter and Katz connection.

Rosandra

Can a family fall off the face of the earth? 14 years I have been trying to find this family: Jacob and Yetta Katz had 2 sons that I know of: Abe and Morris (b.1880's). Abe was married to Rachel and had Pauline(1911), Ruth(1913) and Jacob(1916), that I know of. Anyone recognize these names? Abe and Rachel lived on Ridge St. NYC 1925. That's all I know. My great-great-Grandmother was Beila-Riva/Ryvka Katz and I am looking for any connections. Here is the only information I know. Her father was named Yankel. Beila would have been born about 1858-1860 and she married Morduhk/Mordechai Mendelson and they had about 13 kids of which I have names of 11. I would love to find out more on the Katz family and find out what happened to her parents or siblings.

Sarah

Looking for ancestors of Berl Katz

I am searching for ancestors and children or grandchildren of Berl Katz who was born in a Ukrainian town called Shvanchik sometime in the latter part of the 19th century (maybe sometime between 1880 and 1900). He left the Ukraine sometime during the Russian Revolution of 1917. He arrrived in the U.S. and lived in Brooklyn with his wife and 10 children. He died in 1963. One of his daughters was named Golda.

Berl left his sister in the Ukraine and kept in touch with her until the mid 1950's. I am one of her relatives.
Thank you very much for your help.

katzes from dinivitz, kamenetz podolsk, ukraine

My late father, Harry Katz, also known as Tzvi, came from the town of Dinivitz in the province of Kamenetz Podolsk in the Ukraine. Is there anyone out there who also came from the Dinivitz area, or whose parents or grandparents came from there who possibly knew my family (grandparents, Nathan and Rose, aunts and uncles Samuel, Charles and David, Becky, Lena and Anna)? You may respond to me or to my children, Robert and Eva Katz, at katzek@hotmail.com, or to Michelle Katz and Rick Gilmore at michkatz@mcquaideblasko.com. Is there anyone out there who has been to Dinivitz or who knows exactly where it is? Various of my first cousins and second cousins are doing family trees and any information I get from this search will be helpful to us all.
Thanks.

Brooklyn or NY city Katz?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some infomation on either Larry (Lawerence?) or Lisa Katz, brother & sister b. 1938, 1942 (=/- 2 years, both birth years are rough guesses). They're parents would have been Ida (nee Wigdor or Vigdor or Victorvitch) & Benny (Benjamin?) Katz.

I know that Lisa went on to marry, but i don't know her husbands name or surname. I also believe that she taught in the NY city school system & her last known address was also in NY - either Long Island or Staten Island.

Both Lisa & Larry are my third cousins & I trying to track down any information on them & their family branch. I'm descended from Rebecca Vigdor/Wigdor/Victorvitch, they're grandmother's (Leah) sister. I've also tracked down other cousins from Abraham Rosenblum (Rebecca & Leah's half brother).

If anyone knows how to get a hold of Larry & Lisa or any possible descendents, I would greatly appreicate it, since there are quite a few of us running around.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

~~~ laura
Katz, Beila Ryvka Daughter Of Yankel From Mogilev-Belarus
Anyone doing their Katz ancestry. I have mostly concentrated on my great-great-grandfathers side of the family which is Mendelson, but his wife Beila was a Katz. Anyone have any information or connections to Katz families from that area. Beila I believe was born about 1857-58. She must have married my great-great-grandfather Morduhk Mendelson about 1876-77, because their first child was born in 1878. I have made many great strides on the Mendelson side and would love to the same on the Katz side.
Albert H. Katz
My father,Albert H.Katz, from Phil.,PA. I understand his parnets
owned a furniture store in down town Phil.,PA
on Broad and Main in 1948. I do believe my grandparents came
to the USA in 1939 or so from Germany. I think the stores name was Katz
Furniture. My Aunt Elaine Hevner, said in 1950
she saw a news paper,stating a man had been killed
in a car by his name. My mother tells me I met my father and
grandparents at the age of two, while he was in Los Angeles
County Jail. I have a piture of him from that
time. He was a stawberry blone with green eyes
lite and about 5'7" tall.When I was two years old
my mother had taken me some where in down town Los Angeles,
California. I had met with other relatives.
Sence she had never learned to drive, she never
had a sence of directions. I would very much
like to E-mail any one who might know of my
father or his family. My mother's name at that
time was Selma May Hevner, from Renova,PA.
She had told me she met my father on the train,
she was a house keeper for the wealthy in Phil.,PA.
My father never asked her if she was Jewish or
not. When his parents found out she was not, they
made him devorice her while only four months
along with me. Shortly after my bith we moved
to Lomita,California. It was very had in those days
to me a single mother. Thanking you in advance,and
hoping to find my roots.Anita Starman (Katz)
Here is all that I have from the Katz side:
David Samuel(al) Katz (b. late 1800s) came from Poland or an area nearby, married ?? and had at least one son, Philip (b. Mar 1911, d. Mar 1991).
Philip married Rose Rosenblum (daughter of Mendel and Pauline Rosenblum) and had 2 sons, Robert and Jerry. They resided in Little Neck, Queens.
Robert married JoAnn ?? and had a son, Matthew (b. 1975??) and a daughter Jamie (b. 1977). He has since divorced and remarried.
Jerry married Carol Dunn and had a son, David (b. 1966) and 2 daughters, Amy and Lori. He has also divorced and remarried.
If anyone can help me track this further back, I would greatly appreciate it.
They would have lived in the town/village of Mogilev. I am not sure how many kids they had but i believe it may have been about 13.
I do not know if they ever made it to the united states. I only have been able to find three of their children, which were my great-grandmother Anna/Elke(mendelson)Rakoff and her two brothers Samuel & Louis. I do not know what happened to the other children. So, i am seeking any and all help in finding out what happened to the rest of the family. I am assuming that they may have died in any of the wars/strife that was always going on in that region during the early teen years years of the 1900's.
I have spoken to a great-aunt who is also decended from them. She vaguely remembers that her father use to send letters and money back home to family still there, but that in the 1930's depression years he could no longer send them any more. She said that was the last they heard from the family still there.
I am trying to gather as much information that she can recall to help steer me in the right direction of where to search. I also have my great-grandmothers "Ketubah", religious marriage record. One of the lines translated for me, indicated that the father was already deceased, and she was married in 1921 in Brooklyn, New York and came to New York In 1911.
If you can help me or have information, please contact me.
KATZ - PIATRA NEAMT - ROMANIA
I have recently acquired birth certificates of twin brothers of my grandfather - these twins were a complete bolt out of the blue, none in the family had ever heard about them, perhaps 'you' have?
February 21st 1880 - Birth of Hascal KATI (CATZ/KATZ) according to different documentation - and Solomon - children of Haim KATZ and his wife Hana - 160 Darmanesti Street, Piatra Neamt, Romania.
My grandfather - Froim - was born in Darmanesti Street in 1885.
It also transpires that Hascal married someone called Blima (I have no maiden name) and they had a son Smil on December 10th 1907 - 40 Cogalniceanu Street, Piatra Neamt.
In an article on Piatra Neamt I find that a Hascal CATZ in 1942 was on the Jewish organizing committee of Piatra Neamt - could this be the same person?
My grandfather had other siblings, descendants of whom, over the years, I have been able trace, now up pops another challenge - coupled with the fact that I have also just been informed that there was another sibling called Sophie, who never married - I have been given her photo too.
If there are any Katz' who know they originated from Piatra Neamt who have heard of the above people - know of their descendants, especially of Smil, or would like to see the photograph of Sophie if it would help in any way to find familial likeness, please do contact me.
I also hold details of Burach Catz - wife Mariam and their children, Piatra Neamt, if anyone wishes to have details I would be happy to forward the information. I will say that one of their children Adela born in 1906 married in 1946 a Mr. S. Theiler, she died in 1986. Perhaps they are related to my family, as yet I have no way of proving such.
Thank you.
Patricia Wilson
Katz, Kleinstein and/or Greenberg connection
My great grandmother was Esther Kleinstein (that was her maiden name). She married a Charles Katz and they had at least one child, Rose, who was born on 8/15/1889 in Austria and might have migrated in 1907. I believe that both Esther and Charles were also born in Austria.
Rose married my grandfather, Benjamin Greenberg (who was born in Russia around 1886 or 1887 and might have immigrated in 1904). They had three children, Hannah, Abraham & Isidore in the early 1900s.
Hoping that someone out there might have info (or turn out to be a descendent of one of my ancestors above!).
DATA: Katz, Jr., David Henry listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook
DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).
This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):
Katz, Jr., David Henry (Dave)
There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.
If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...
Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .
Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
Kalmanson - Bendersky
My grandmother was Minnie Kalmanson. I believe she was from Odessa (not sure - she might have been from Poland or Bessarabia). She came to the US about 1900 either with, or to live with her sister, Clara, who was married to Israel Bendersky from Bendery, Moldavia. They all settled in Selma, Alabama.
My grandmother married Harry Roisman in 1901. They had six kids: Max, Isadore, Maurice, Harper, Bess, and Rose (my mother). Only Harper, age 86 and a working actor, is alive, and he only knows what I have shared with you here.
The family moved to Hollywood, CA in about 1925. The six children formed a musical comedy vaudeville act, and the entire family toured the country for about 10 years as "Roismans Alabamians." They were a successful and popular vaudeville act.
The only other bit of information I know is this: My grandmother was related to Sam Zemurray, who was president of Untied Fruit company in the early part of the century to about 1930 and was the richest man in the world at one time (That didn’t rub off on us!) Sam was the son of a poor Jewish farmer in the Bessarabia side of the Dniester River. In 1882 at the age of 15 he came to America with his aunt Hattie Dinitz whose husband had already opened a store in Selma Alabama. Sam’s parents were David and Sarah Blausman Zemurray. I am not sure which one of those people my grandmother was related to, but I have heard the name BLAUSMAN coming up in family conversations.
Minnie Kalmanson died in the early 1930’s. I know nothing else about her or her family.
Are we related??
If you have any information to share, I would be very appreciative. Conversely, I will be happy to share with you what I learn!!
Thanks for your assistance!
Kathy Keane
Hermosa Beach, Ca.
Erzsebet Markovics Katz, b. 1904 in Sarospatak, Hungary
Yesterday I toured the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. When one begins the tour, one gets an ID card that tells the story of a real person who lived during the Holocaust. I was very touched by my ID card (#4803) and I want to honor this brave woman's memory by telling her story that was printed on the ID card as well as a beautiful picture of her:
Name: Erzsebet Markovics Katz
DOB: 1904
Place of birth: Sarospatak, Hungary
"Erzsebet was born to Jewish parents living in a town on the Bodrog River in northeastern Hungary. Sarospatak was a picturesque town with a ruined medieval fortress, the Windischgratz castle, and many wineries, flour mills, and brickworks. Erzsebet's father was a locksmith and sheet-metal worker.
1933-39: I've married Jozsef Katz. It was a lovely, formal wedding. Jozsef comes from a large Jewish family. He's a joiner by trade and was working in Sarospatak when we met. Now we've moved here to Budapest where he's opened a small furniture-making shop. We're living in a rather dark, two-room apartment, but it's all we can manage for the time being.
1940-1944: It's been almost four years since war broke out and since Jozsef was conscripted into labor service with thousands of other Jewish men. Three months ago, German troops occupied Hungary, and now the Germans have ordered all the Jews in Budapest to move into houses marked by a yellow Star of David. They've also imposed a strict curfew so that we're free to move outside only between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. We've all heard about the deportations of Jews from the Hungarian countryside and we're terrified that we'll be next.
Soon after, Erzsebet was arrested in the streets of Budapest and deported. She was one of thousands who died during a typhus epidemic at the Bergen-Belsen camp late in the war."
Family of Samuel H Katz born circa 1894
Samuel H Katz married Marion S Spiegel (born 1895) in Cook County Illinois, According to census, Samuel was born in Ohio. He and Marion had at least two daughters while living in Cook County, they are Marjorie H Katz born approximately 1919 and Charlotte Katz born in 1922. They relocated to York, Pennsylvania and their son Thomas E Katz was born there in 1928. And that is where my trail goes cold.
I am related to this family through Marion Spiegel. Her father was the older brother of my great grandmother Rose Spiegel Indianer (Inden). If any of this is familiar, please contact me at my email address ellen913 at adelphia.net
I have found quite a lot of the Spiegels in this line but cannot seem to find a trace of Marion.
Thanks.
Ellen
Samuel Katz (Katzovich) from Russia to USA - MN to MD
HI..
I'm looking for information on Samuel Katz (changed from Katzovich) who came to this country in 1912 with his wife Celia Glozman (ca1887 Odessa, Russia - 9/5/1949 St Louis Co, MN). Samuel and Celia were married ca 1904 in Russia, and divorce in MN ca 1923. From what I understand Samuel moved to Maryland - last contact with MN family indicated he might have died there ca early 1940's.. Possible other wives/children in MD but not certain.
Samuel Katz
+ Celia Glozman (ca1887Odessa, Russia - 9/5/1949 St Louis Co, MN)
Children all born in MN:
Hinnie (b. ca1916), Abraham Albert (b. 1916), Samuel (b. 1921)
Celia and children remained in MN.
Does anyone know anything about Samuel Katz, or does anyone have any advice on finding him. I'm looked in the census records and thus far have not found him. I don't know the city/county in MD.
Thank you,
Cay Devin
My great-grandparents were Simon Katz (b. 1861) and Raquel Bercovich, who emigrated to Moises Ville, Santa Fe, Argentina, probably around 1904.
My grandparents were Ana Katz (b. 1901) and Isaac Goldbort.
My parents were Jaime Goldbort (born in Argentina, 1921) and Victoria Caballero.
I am Norma Goldbort Yaskoir.
Any matches?
Norma Yaskoir
Crochetnyc5@netzero.net
Trying to locate cousin, Lynn Katz
Lynn's biological mother, Pauline Weiner Fleischer, and adopted mother, Anna Weiner Katz, were my mother's first cousins. I have photos of Lynn as a baby and three year old. Lynn's grandmother, Raizel, and my grandmother, Bessie Glickman Berman, were half sisters. Due to a lawsuit over property, my mother and the Weiner family lost contact. I would like to re-establish a connection.
Samuel Katz of Osage, Iowa
I need some help in locating the family of a great great uncle. Samuel Katz was born in Germany around 1851. He is the son of Samuel Katz and Helene Rosenthal. He married Amelia Rosenbrier, of New York, who was born around 1858. They had at least four children, all of whom were born in or around Osage, Iowa: Samuel, Jr. (abt 1879), Sidney (abt 1880), Elsie R. (5 Dec 1884), and an unnamed female child (possibly named Mabel) (7 Oct. 1888). They left Iowa before the 1900 census, and I cannot locate them. Any information would be appreciated.
