I'm not sure if this will help anyone BUT I have an old family letter from 1891 which mentions (an Uncle) John Kaye residing at 165 Halifax Old Road, Huddersfield, & Joe Kaye as Warehouseman for Mesors Walker Dyson & Sons, Stonecroft Mills, Milnsbridge, Huddersfield or another address given that may help for Joe....Warehouseman, near Longwood Station......and also a (Uncle) Harry Kaye who possibly came to America about 1860 with my gg grandfather Thomas Stevenson to Lawrence MA to work in the mills...however- I don't know how the Kayes are connected to the Stevensons. I'm actually looking for Thomas's parents who were John and Elizabeth. The Harry could possibly be a Henry Kaye who did work in the Lawrence Mill in the 1868 Directory of Lawrence, MA and is on the 1880 census as being married to Catherine and living on Mongomery St.. Both were born in England as well as each of their parents. His birth year 1837/age 43, hers 1838/age 42 2 daughters Grace A age 10 born MA & Lillian age 7 born in MA
Here is a piece from the letter maybe it will help someone:
Dec 15, 1891
From: Lizzie B: 1/15/1855 (Mrs William Henry Brook, 11 Greenhead Road, Huddersfield, dau of Harriet Stevenson & James Walker Huddersfield, England)
To: Blanche and Mabel Stevenson, Lawrence MA, daugs of Thomas Stevenson and Pheobe Ann Sharpe
"You asked about the Kayes, I did not know anything myself but on Friday I went to see a man named Harry Hanson who was a companion of your father and your Uncle Harry's. He and Uncle Edwin went with them to Liverpool when they came out. He said he would get their address for me. He went on Saturday to see John kaye who I think was pleased to hear something about Harry's children." Then at the end it gives those addresses. In another letter it mentions briefly a Mrs W Kaye.
Just for kicks.... other surnames & people mentioned in some letters are John Singleton & wife Annie daughters Fannie and Minnetta who married Arthur (have photos too of all, not sure how they fit either...), Squire and Amanda Haigh, Luther Amos, John Scatchard-Dewsbury landed 1840, Baines of Lawrence, MA, I do have quite a bit on the Stevensons as well. Anyone I can help? It never hurts to ask.....
