Can anyone give me more information on Moses Keady who married Jane McNary Beale? Moses is my husband's gg-grandfather and we know almost nothing about the Keady family going back in history starting with Moses. He had a son, Matthew Norris Keady (DOB 1-23-1877, died 4/1957 In Little Rock, Arkansas) , who is my hubby's g-grandfather. Matthew married Sarah Myrtle Wallace in 1903. I have more info on Matthhew, who my husband was named after. Matthew's son is Norris Keady, my husband's grandfather. His father was George Norris Keady, who is deceased. We'd like to go backwards in our geneology, if anyone can help us out! We think my husband and I are very distant relatives and would like to find the connections. Thanks!

I have traced an ancester John Grimley from Derrynoose (Keady) who married Margret Feighan. Children were catherine born 25 August 1847 Owen born May 1852 Twins John & Patrick born 30th December 1855
I need to verify if this is indeed my ancester.
Owen I am told had a younger brother Francis and they both fled to Britain after a crime in 1870's.
They maintained they had changed their name from Gormley and came from Lurgan. I can find not trace of taht name there so it may have been a smoke screen to cover the crime. Are you connected to this family

My g-g-g-g-g grandfather is Moses Keady. He had a son William, who immigrated to Quebec city, Canada in 1832 with his family. William contracted cholera during the voyage and died that year -perhaps during the voyage. Left behind his wife Mary and 8 children.

I have some information about Keady descendants to share -and am very interested in learning about Moses and his ancestors. All I know of Moses is that he may have been born 1740 and that his son William emigrated from Castlebar co. Mayo and married Ann McGee.

Email me at bi-ll-fe gmail com (remove hyphens)
Moses Keady born c 1730 is the name of my husband's g-g-g-g grandfather. The name has morphed from Kincaid to Keady, Kady, Kedey, or as my husband's grandmother spelled her last name, Kadey. We almost called our daughter "Kadey" but chose Katie instead.
"Our" Moses had a son who died in Quebec, Canada in 1832. My husband has more Kadey info if it might help.

My family all pronounces Keady, kay-dee, with the exception of one of my uncles, who gave in to everyone saying key-dee. We have had some people try to pronounce it ked-ee. My family is mostly located in upstate New York. My grandparents were Martin and Mary Keady, ggrandparents John Walter and Margaret Keady; gggrandparents John Thomas and Mary Keady. John Thomas Keady came to the states from Ireland in the 1840's.
Good luck on your search.
Kris
I think the names Keady, Kedey, Cady, has as its Gaelic translation, the form: O'Ceidigh. (phonetically: O Kay Dee)The name Keady, Cady or O Ceidigh is not exactly the most common names in Ireland.

My ancestors are both O'Ceidigh and Keady. I was born Keady in Galway the west of Ireland. My father was born Keady in Dublin in the east of Ireland. My Grandfather born Keady in Cork in the south of Ireland. My Great Grandfather born O'Ceidigh from Spiddal, Connemara Co Galway.

Mairtin O'Ceidigh,
Galway, Ireland

Sean,
We have a possible family pedigree that goes back to Co Donegal Ireland 3 more generations. You understand that the given name Moses was used in every generation including my dad's. Dad's name was William Moses Keady. Then we didn't use it for our own children. Your dad, was David Glenn, wasn't he? He had an uncle-in-law who was David Glenn, married Ella Jane's sister, Mary.
The father of my great grandfather Moses Keady was also Moses Keady. Then his father was something else, which we haven't discovered. But there was an uncle named Moses. Then the direct line of Moseses takes over again.
We have a record of Moses and Samuel Keady of Co Donegal Ireland being on the Spinning Wheel or Flax Bounty list there in 1776.

Janeice Keady Crosson

Sean, I have Moses Keady's Civil War record, as well as his land and marriage records. I also have his parents' marriage record and his father's naturalization declaration record. We have mutual cousins in San Diego and Oregon. The one in Oregon is descended from Samuel Keady who was Moses' brother. The one in San Diego is descended from James Keady who was our Samuel Renwick Keady's brother. If you can contact me privately I can perhaps do some sharing of these records.
Janeice Keady Crosson

Sean,
I am ever so glad to hear from you. I am your father's first cousin, the daughter of Bill and Thelma Keady. I knew your grandparents when they lived next door to my folks and then your grandmother after Uncle Glen died. I have quite a bit of genealogy information and am happy to share. I can fill in some blanks in the tree I have posted.
What do you want to know?
Janeice

I have some information, but i am looking for more. If you have anything, especially about the earlier Keadys (Moses and earlier), would you be willing to share it?
This may be a long shot, but you never know. Try writting to Maureen Keady who lives in Attymon(near Athenry), Co. Galway. You don't need any more address than that! She had a dozen children..one, of which, is Tony Keady, the well know Galway hurler. His address is French Fort, Oranmore, Co. Galway, and his 'phone # is (091)79 27 05. By the way, his mother's 'phone # is (091)84 82 20. Good luck. Give them my best. Let me know how you're doing.

It appears that you didn't receive my reply so I will try again.
I did know that Kadey, Kedey, Keady , probably came from the Gaelic O'Ceidigh. Actually, Padraig O'Ceidigh, a professor at the University College Galway, did research on Keady's in
Ireland. He was in contact with a 2nd cousin of mine until he became ill and past away. The problem I am having, is tracking our family back in Ireland. All of the name changes certainly don't help. ...Gerry Kadey

Both Keady and Costello are Galway names, as you probably already know. The surnames are common in the Connemara area, particularly around Spiddal. My ggf, Michael, was born on
1 Oct. 1847 in a hamlet called "Seannagurran"(near Spiddal) to Partick and Ellen (nee Riley) and emigrated, landing at the Port of N.Y. on 2 Nov. 1859. He raised a large family, of which my gf, Patrick, was the first born. Make sure that
you "return", as that is what your ancestors would like you to do! Good luck...keep me informed!

Have you ever found any info on Delia? I also am looking for Keady in Baltimore. My ggm was Mary Keady m. John J. Costello. I estimate that Mary was born about 1860-65, since my gf, Lawrence Philip Costello was born 1880's. I found one Mary Keady in the 1870 census in the home of Mark Keady, age 4 and another Mary Kady, on same page, age 14 a servant in the home of H R Champayne. So far this is all I have been able to find, not sure if one of them is her or not. Mark Keady is listed age 30, born Ireland, wife Mary, siblings, Bridget, Kate, John and Mark.
Mary
