Re: Keatings from Corabeg and Valentia to New London
Thanks so much. The 1901 census is very useful to have. It will take me a while to work through all this, but for now could you tell me if "Nano" was male or female? And is it a nickname for some other name? I ask because another researcher and I have found that at one point there was an "Elizabeth" Keating living in New London who was a sponsor of Lawrence on his 1923 trip to the U.S. Below is part of a letter from my correspondent:
"When I checked back to Ellis Island etc, I recalled the following:Bridget from Corobeg is shown as arriving on
Lucania in May 1908. She has as her sponsor, her sister Mary, and the address is Pequoit Ave, New London. She lists a Mr Keating from Corobeg as the person she has left
behind. Lawrence's entry on the Caronia in 1920 is scratched
through which I thought meant he did not go that time. The
sponsor is shown as sister Bridget living in Montauk Ave, New London, and father John Keating being left behind.
A later entry for the President Adams (Sept 1923) is ticked and shows an Elizabeth Keating as the sponsor, again living
Montauk Avenue, and it shows brother Michael as the person left in Corabeg... Who is Elizabeth? Was it Bridget's middle/alternative name, or is it
another sister? I don't know the answer yet."
