William R. Keays

Looking for information on William Russell Keays, who married a widow, Mary Radford Fogarty in London in 1891. At the time of marriage, Mary had children George, Sophia Martha, Esther, William and Mary. William and Mary had Elizabeth in about 1893 and Isabella in about 1895. I've found the family in both the 1891 and 1901 census and am particularly interested in tracking the 2 Keays girls further, as well as obtaining additional info on William.

William is the son of Samuel Keays and his wife Eliza Graham and was born in 1850 in Co. Cork, Ireland. I can supply a lengthy history of his family.

Cindy Wood

I have a lots of information on Andew McCutcheon Keays who married Emily Munsen in 1918 in England when he was serving with the CEF. They returned to Winnipeg when the war was over and had 5 children there. He was a wanderer who worked on the railroad and died in Calgary in 1947. His parents were John Attwood Keays and Jane Rolston. Father English and mother Irish. I would love to hear from this branch of the family as it has been one of my missing links forever!
Nancy Fraser

John Attwood 1860 England, help with inscription

John Attwood Keays, born in England c1840, emigrated to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada c1860. Parents Charles Keys and Sarah. He named his first child John Attwood Keays. I have been searching for decades to find his birthplace in England. He brought with him an old English religious book (author John Downame) signed "John Attwood May 25th 1860" followed by illegible words which may be an address. I am hoping someone will be able to give me some
clues to the place. The inscription is at

http://www.theedge.ca/dhamre/

Other signatures in the book: Samuel Lovell, Thomas Rogers, 1699, ffrome

Descendants of John Attwood Keays:
http://www.ssimicro.com/~nfraser

If you have any suggestions, please email.

Hi Nancy,
There is a Frome in Somerset County and a Frome St Quenton in Dorset County.
There is nowhere in my book of maps spelt Ffrome, not even in Wales where a double Ff, is quite common. However at the time that was written a double Ff was not uncommon.
Also at times a S would be written as an F, but I have had a look and there is nothing spelt Ssrome or anything like it in my map.

I would suggest that Frome in Somerset would be the place to start.
Sorry I had a look at the picture but could not decypher it for you.

Good luck
Tom

You said in your message that you had a lot of information about Mount Shannon. My great uncle, Thomas Nevins, lived there in the late 1890's and died there in 1903. Have you ever come across his name, or that of his daughters, Mrs. Nicholas Doyle, (d. 1902 there), Mrs. Groom, Mrs. Vincent Jackson, or of his wife, Esther? They were quite a wealthy family, and so I thought you might have come across their names. Thanks in advance for any info you might have.

I have been reading this site with interest as I thought my surname (Keayes) was rather unusual and I never see anyone else with the same name. It got interesting when I read that the name is thought to have come from Ireland as that is where my Grandad's father was from. Have you any further developments on your side? I live in UK

KEAYS William Gordon1827-1904 Ontario CA

Hi from Down Under,

I am a Keays living in South Australia and I have just found some information on my father’s lineage that has got me hunting for more!

My great great grandfather was William Gordon Keays, b 1 Aug 1827, d 25 Feb 1904. He was a farmer in Masonville (London) Ontario and I believe he was born in Ontario. His origin is listed as Irish in the 1871 census of Ontario, so I believe his parents probably migrated from Ireland. From my reading so far, I believe it was Limerick. I do not know his parents’ names, but I do know he married Mary Anne Crispen (1835 – 1910) on 13 Mar 1855. They had 9 children as follows:
Alfred Henry 1856
Thomas Arthur 1858
William Herbert 1860
Robert Caulket 1863
Robert Frost 1865
James Edward 1867
Henrietta 1870
George Richard 1872
Charles Wesley 1878

I would like to trace William Gordon's parents to Ireland if anyone has any information that would help me I can fill in all the details from William Gordon to my family in Australia.

Thanks
Andrew Keays
I am looking for my grandfather's family. His name was Thomas James Keays. He came to the U.S. from Ireland with his sister. I think he also had several brothers (some may have been Priests), but they remained in Ireland. I don't know his sister's name or the year they came. He was born July 27, 1909 and died July 1982. Thomas James Keays married my grandmother Carlene Grenier, I think in 1939. As far as I know, they were living in or near Rochester, NH at that time.
My father Wayne Chesley Keays was born September 14, 1940 in Rochester, NH.
Does anyone have any connections???

My dad's fathers' first name was merryl. I don't recall when or where he passed away, only that he was in a wheelchair and when he came to visit he came with his daughters, three I think. One may have been Serena(?) I believe his wife's name was Mildred.

He is my Grandfather. I have absolutely no info on him, other than he was married to an Emile Munson for a short time. They lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where my father was born in the late 20's. Then he left and apparently moved to the States. He was Irish, but I don't know if he immigrated to Canada from there or not.
My father had brothers and sisters, but whether they are from this union, I'm not sure. I believe Betty was. Charles (Chuck) and Ellen are the other two children. My father is also named Andrew Arthur.
Any info at all, would be very much appreciated.
Elaine
