The last will and testament of Henry Keefer of the
Town of Orange in the County of Schuyler and State of New York.
I, Henry Keefer considering the uncertainty of this mortal life
but being of sound mind and disposing mind, memory and understanding
(Blessed be Almighty God for the same) do make and publish this
my last will and testament in manner following:
First I give devise and bequeath to my wife Esther Keefer my
farm of sixty one acres of land situate in Orange aforesaid
being the same on which I now reside and also all the personal
property that I shall be possessed of at my decease subject to all
the restrictions and dispositions hereinafter made:
Second I order and direct that out of my personal property
my Executrix herein after named pay my funeral expenses and erect in
my memory marble monuments not to exceed in value seventy dollars.
Third I further order and direct that out of the rest and residue of
my personal property that my Executrix hereinafter named first pay
the balance of all monies that may be due or to become due on my
farm at my decease and second all my honest [?] debts that I shall
owe and in case my personal estate shall be insufficient to pay
my debts I further order and direct that my Executrix rent my farm
for such a term of time as shall be necessary to raise a sufficient
sum to pay my debts and all expenses necessary in the settlement
of my estate.
Fourth I give and bequeath all the rest residue and
remainder of my real and personal estate that I may be possessed of
at my decease to my beloved wife Esther Keefer and to her heirs forever.
Fifth I do here nominate and appoint my wife Esther Keefer
of Orange sole Executrix of this my last will and testament and
in witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand and seal this
thirteenth day of March 1862.

GEORGE KEEFER born in N.J. in 1773 removed to Thorold, Canada in 1790. He became first president of the Welland Canal. He had four wives one of whom was JANE. He had a son THOMAS COULTON KEEFER so I assume one of his other wives was a COULTON. I am trying to trace the family of DORINDA COLTON who married HENRY SMITH in Chippewa, Canada (near Thorold) in 1820. If GEORGE KEEFER'S wife was a COULTON maybe my DORINDA came from the same family. Josiah and Jane Keefer

I am stuck here. I can only find Josiah Keefer on one census and that is in 1880 with his wife Jane, children Charles(b1877), John(b1879) and Ellen(b1875). Mother Maria(b1914) lives with them and she is widowed. Josiah (b1855) has no other information I can find. He was living in Lehigh co Pa, which is where most of my family following is from. On the census they list their parents as from PA...so I don't know why I can't find them on another census.

Any help appreciated.

I recently received a Civil War pension packet for a Peter Miller that is not "my" Peter Miller. This Peter Miller had a guardian in 1900 named Eli Keefer who is his son-in-law. Eli Keefer's wife is Evaline (Miller). Peter was born in Germany in 1808 and was a wagoner in Co B, 67th Reg OVI. He died in 1901. Eli and his wife are in the 1910 census in Lucas County, Ohio and Eli's birth is abt 1844 OH. Hope this helps someone.

Seeking information on parentage of John William Keefer/Kiefer, born in Washington Co, MD.
He married Margaret Harris on 30 Oct 1853 in Sangamon Co, IL.
In 1860 They live in Logan Co, IL.
By 1870 Margaret seems to have perished, as the kids are scattered throughout Menard Co, IL.
1880 he is remarried to a Susannah in Buchanan Co, MO. Also there in 1900.
He died in Oklahoma, in 1902, probably in Creek County, as three of his sons lived there.

Hi, My Grandmother's name was Catherine Agness Keefer and she was born somewhere about 1901. Her marriage license says her father was Theodore Keefer and mother was Louise ?. I know that she had brothers and sisters. Brothers were: Peter b. April 10, 1893, George A. b. June 15, 1896, Edward b. January 18, 1899. Tillie b. May 29, 1889, Josephine Ellen b. March 9, 1905. Josephine married Mr. Berry and I know she had a son who was in the military. George A. was a Vet. of WW1 and his wife's name was Alma. They had a son named George who is my Uncle.

My mistake. David M. Keefer was born Jan. 1, 1841 instead of 1941. I have had some indications that he had a brothers named John, William, and Jacob but I am not sure. I have also been told that his mother was Sarah, Sara, or possible Susan. He has a lot of relatives buried around Belleflower in McLean County, IL.

I am looking for any information on my grandfather's sister, I don't have much to go on but this is all I have.
Katie's maiden name is Driscoll born on October 3, 1881 in Kingston, Frontenac Co., Ontario, Canada. Parents names are Patrick Driscoll and Julia Babcock (maiden name). I believe once her mother and moved to the Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY area (her mother's last husband's name is Rufus Hayes) she stayed behind in Kingston between 1897 and 1900 She married around 1900 and was living in Buffalo, New York. She died between 1933 and 1940 of kidney disease. She had two brother Henry and Daniel, and 4 half brother, John and Ernest Beach, Charles Wood, and Wilford Glazier who died in Watertown, NY in 1910. It is so strange that I have not found any census record with her in it. I have tried so many variations of her last name with no luck. I know this is alot of history about her but maybe it will ring in to some one out there. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Husband's grandfather is Claude R Keefer, b UT, 1889, married Marguerite C. Dewing. His father was James R Keefer, b PA, 1858, married Cara Henshaw. I'd not been able to connect to his parents, but found on Jim Keefer's marvelous site what I hope is the right line. Someone has submitted our James as part of the family of David C. Keefer b Westmoreland County, PA, 1830 and Nancy Simpson who moved on to Marion County, Iowa. This line goes back several generations.

I'd love an instant connection, but need proof. Would, of course, like to find the submitter of the information, or anyone who has family record proof. James and Cara moved to Oakland California. I can help bring the line forward..

Searching for the lineage of Mary E. Keefe, who married Charles G. Blythe from England, son to Thomas Blythe of England. Both emigrated to the US in 1857 and Charles subsequently married Mary E. Keefer.

Following is more detailed information:

Thomas Blythe, b. abt. 1809 in England (Yorkshire?), married to ? Fisher and had children Thomas King Blythe, John Blythe, Charles G. (George?) Blythe, Robert Blythe, Ann Blythe, and ? Blythe (unknown female). Only Thomas, Charles and Robert emigrated to the US as far as I can tell.

Charles G., b. abt. 1833 in England (Yorkshire?) married Mary E. Keefer, b. abt. 1844 in Wisconsin and had: Charles E, b. abt. 1868 in Wisconsin; Olive, b. abt. 1871 in Wisconsin; Jennie, b. abt. 1874 in Wisconsin; Clayton William Blythe, b. abt. Nov. 27, 1883 in Wisconsin; and Wesley E. Blythe, b. abt. 1891 in Tennessee.

Clayton William married Harriet Maude/Maud (Jones) Blythe, b. abt. 1885 in Indiana, and had: Betty (Elizabeth?) Blythe, whose married name may have been Vaneck/Vanek/Vanick?; Chester C. Blythe, b. abt. Jan 8 of 1919 in Indiana; Irwin, b. abt. 1910 (may have died young as he is not evident in subsequent censuses); and Urith/Vrith, b. abt. 1912 in Illinois. This entire family lived for quite a while in Chicago, Illinois.

Chester C. Blythe (my husband's grandfather) married Louise Matthews (adopted daughter or granddaughter) to Eliam Dennis Matthews and Martha J. (Jordan - maiden name). Louise was supposedly adopted by this couple. Any information about her biological parents/family would be appreciated. We believe that they may have been out of the Morning Sun, Iowa area, where Louise was adopted. Chester left while their children Paul Wayne and Marshall Matthews were quite young and Louise subsequently married a Jim Reynolds from Ontario, Canada and had two more children.

Any information on any of these people would be appreciated.

While cleaning off some headstones of family members in Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, MI, I came across the headstone of Betty Lou Keefer. She was born March 14, 1929 and died September 21, 1929. She appeared to be buried in the same plot as my family members. I'm wondering if there is a connection to my family. In 1880 they lived at Jefferson, Mercer County, Ohio with children Mary E. born about 1862, Ellis born about 1864, Clarasa E. born about 1871, and Sally Bell born about 1876.

Westport— Ruth O. Keefer, 93, died on Saturday Oct. 7, 2000, at her daughter’s residence in Avon Lake, Ohio.

She was born on Aug. 20, 1907, to Clarence and Edith (Strung) Osbourne.

She graduated from Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh as a Registerd Nurse in 1928. Ruth worked for the Elizabethtown Community Hospital for 17 years, and was a very active member of the Westport Federated Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Lease of Avon Lake, Ohio; one son, Edward Keefer of Pittsburg, Pa.; one sister, Stella Morris of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Glen Keefer and one sister, Harriet Clark.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Evelyn Meredith at the Westport Federated Church in Westport, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery in Westport. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Westport Federated Church or to a charity of your choice.

I have the marriage certificate that has been passed down through the family, but it does not list parents names. As far as I know Clara lived her whole life in Pa. Accoring to the 1930 Census she was living on Court Street in Sunbery, Pa. Clara and James had four children: Berta M b 25 May 1883, Carrie E. b Aug 1887, Emery b? and Charles E. b 07 November 1891.

Looking for info on Uncle Elwood Keefer who married Lorraine Titus. They lived in Dubois, Pa. I think Elwoods father may have been Joseph Henry Keffer, but I'm not certain. Elwood would have died after 1972. Lorraine his wife died before him. I don't know if they had any children. Elwood was very involved with the boyscouts in the Dubois area. U.S. census, Sandusky, Ohio.
His obituary lists parents William Keffer and Catherine Hawn.
He was marrried twice;
Harriet Rowena Hummel and Elizabeth Rebecca Deemer

Does anyone know anything about William & Catherine?

There was also a William H. Keefer, born in Pennsylvania abt 1831,
living in the same town in 1880.
This William married Serena Cook in 1875, but the census
shows children Ida (Ann), Charles (E), John H. and Elizabeth
born before his marriage to Serena.
If the census is to be believed, all of these children were
born in Ohio, starting around 1859.

Is this the same William? He is not indexed for the 1870 census.
In 1860 I find him in Fremont, Sandusky Co, but I don't have
any family listed. (could be my error)

Joseph was born about 1853 or 1854, he was a Printer; Cordelia was born about 1853 or 1854 in DC; son, Richard, was born about 1875 or 1876 in DC; daughter, Ethel, was born about 1878 or 1879 in DC.

Richard Winfield was born about 1834 or 1835 in VA, he delt in oysters; Elizabeth Winfield was born about 1835 or 1835 in DC; Cordelia's brother, Albert, was born about 1857 in DC. Albert married Ida Virginia Durity.

I find this family - R. C. Keefer in Osborne co. in the 1890s. An obituary for Mrs. Hannah Hannegan states that she was residing with this family at time of her death in 1894. Age 89. I know that Hannah's maiden name was Snyder & she was born in Franklin co. Pennsylvania. Were the Keefers related. I don't have more than that.

I have been trying to research my husbands ancestors. My husband is James Wayne Keefer dob 1950 Colorado, His father, Eugene Franklin Keefer dob 1923 also born in Colorado. His father Franklin Keefer dob apx 1870-80??, he was at least 60 years old when his son was born in 1923. I have not idea where he and his other family came from. Franklin had 3 children born between 1915 to 1930??. John the oldest, Bessie, and Eugene last. The mother was Anna Steadman (or G_______) She was born in about the turn of the century in the mountains above Lyons, Colorado.
Any information would be appreciated. My guess is Franklin moved west from the Penn. Ohio region around the Civil War. He is not listed in the Colorado census - that I can find. I was told they were mountain folk and didn't live in the city.
