Surnames: Keeler, Fox, Scott, Walker, Williamson, Moore, Traylor, LeBeau
My husband is James Olen Scott and is descended from Joseph and Catherine through Mark Keeler in this order:
1.) Joseph Keeler-b. 02 March 1784, ?TN or VA, all my census records say he was born in TN., but I did see where someone has the same name and birthdate, but being born in VA.
2.)10th child of Joseph and Catherine was: Mark Keeler-b.1828, d.07 Feb 1951 TN-m. Rebecca A. Walker.
3.) 6th child of Mark and Rebecca was: Winfield Scott Keeler-b.15 May 1861,TN. d.07 Feb 1951, m. Helen Jackson Williamson.
NOTE: Winfield Scott Keeler was involved in something in the late 1800's. He did something that caused him to have to flee the country and drop his last name. From that time on, he went by Winfield Scott. So when he married Helen, it was Mr and Mrs. Winfield Scott.
4.) 3rd child of Winfield and Helen was: Ellis Winfield Scott, b.28 Apr 1904, d. 18 Nov 1971, m. Effie Cordilla Moore.
5.)2nd child of Ellis and Effie was: John Winfied Scott, b.10 March 1941. d.14 May 2002., m. Cheryl Dianne Traylor, 15 Oct 1959
6.)3rd child of John and Cheryl is: James Olen Scott, b. 14 Apr 1964 m. Cynthia Fay LeBeau 04 Aug 1990, and that would be myself and my husband.
I have heard that Joseph's father was John Keeler from Germany. I would like to know where that info came from and if there is any more farther back. I've been stuck here for awhile and just recently got another computer and subscribed to ancestry.com. Any info or relatives would be appreciated. I know of 3 diffferent stories of why Winfied Scott dropped his last name.
