Re: KEENES of Mayfair

I wonder if you might be able to help me straighten out these Mayfair (and Hammersmith) Keenes. I have William, (1746-1827 and his son John, the South Audley St tailor (1775=1842). For a while John was in business with his eldest son, John, but the son eventually left to open his own establishment on nearby Sackville St.

The person I can't quite fit into this mix is Hannah Keene(although I'm positive this is the correct family). She would have been born about 1750 and married into the Testar family, French noblemen who had re-settled in Birmingham and London's Mayfair to escape the revolution. Her son John Keene Testar married Ann Hitchins in 1814 and opened his own tailor's establishment on South Audley Street, a business he handed down to his son (her grandson) also named John Keene Testar.

These were both very interesting and influential families very much involved in the politics and culture of their day. Any information about them will be most gratefully received.

I will be sending the Bible to someone later this week. If anyone would like the images (there are 7 pages) of the names and dates just email me at mrstroupe@aol.com
also must warn the Keen family of a Keen Family website. I contacted the person who put the page up and after several emails about the bible he started asking for money "to come and see a long lost cousin" I've lost the website address, so just be careful and don't give anyone your home address unless you are VERY sure you can trust them.
sherry

My great grandfather was Geo W Keen...his son, McKenzie McCaskill Keene.....family tradition is that Geo Keen and a brother were stowaways on a ship from Scotland to America and when they arrived they went their separate ways. No one in the family seems to know any different....I have found a land grant for Geo...in Walton County...he lists his and his father's birth place as Florida on the application.....if you have a similar "Keen" story in your closet...maybe you are the other Keen(d) brother's descendant???? Would love to hear from you.

Why are you yelling? Did I step over some invisible line with my post? In case you didn't know...writing in all caps is considered the written version of yelling!!! I am going to assume you didn't know and I will answer your question.

McKenzie McCaskill Keen(e) (1888-1963) was my grandfather. He was born in a log cabin near Glendale, FL and is buried not far from there at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He is the youngest brother of Daniel Keene who married Savannah Elizabeth Scott. My public tree is on ancestory.com if you would like to look at what I have...
Brenda Mathews Carpenter

According to the FamilySearch database, Julia M Cafferty (dau of Furman and Anna Crum Cafferty) married George Keen, Fay McWhorter, and Matt Matsimoto. Have you placed your query on the Keen or Matsimoto boards?
Just curious. I'm not related to the Caffertys but I think Furman was the original owner of property which was later sold to my family so I was looking for Cafferty material and found your note. Hope you've found the information you sought by now.
Best wishes. Sue

Isaac was married to Mary Keen (nee Turner). I cannot seem to find any information for any of these people in any records. Could someone please give me any help/hints as to what i should be doing or looking at to help find the next link. Unfortunately i don't have any details other than a name for Isaac Keen, and that one of his children, David as above, was born in 1892 in Prestwich, Manchester.

The marriage certificate attached shows a father as TOM Keen. The only record I can find of an earlier marriage of a David Thomas Keen is also attached. This certificate shows a father of ISAAC keen.

Does any one know of any records that can help clarify this?
