Hi Cousin: Tryed to send you some info at your website but it didn't go thru. Probably my internet. So nice to hear from you so soon. My great grandmother was Anna M. Comer. she married Isaac L. Keffer. They had 6 children although I only know of 5. My grandmother was Iva Keffer. She went by the name of Peggy. Don't know where that name came from. She was born on Oct.8th, 1899 in Lansing, Fayette, W.V.. She died Jan.28, 1987 in Everett, WA. She married Howard McElhoe and they had one daughter Beatrice Delores McElhoe. That is my mother. She was born on July31, 1920. She is still alive and celebrated her 90th birthday this year. She has 5 children. Two pairs of twins and a son in between. I am one of the Oldest twins. My twin sister's name is Peggy Lea and my name is Tonee Bea. John Allyn is the lone one and the youngest twins are Randy Ray and Mitzi Kay. My mother married Raymond R. Bebich from Anacortes, WA.
I don't know anything about Ida Keffer, After my grandmother Anna had Tillis. She was born on 4-16-1901. She married Peder Albertson Lenes and they had a daughter named Jean Margarite Lenes who was born in 1927 in Snoqualmie Falls, WA. She died in 1995 in Yakima,WA. I don't know if she had any children.
Next was Letti who was born in 1902 on Feb. 5. She married Eric Bergen. ( not sure of the spelling ). they had a son named james I think. Letti died on Oct.24, 1981 in North Bend, WA. Next was Marie Constance who was born in 1906 on Feb. 20.l She was married to Myron Sippy. and they had two sons I believe. She died on March8, 1988 in Brier, WA. And last but not least they had a son named Robert L. Keffer who was born in 1908 and died on Oct.14, 1967. I didn't know him. I don't think he was close to the other siblings. I think he lived in Seattle with my great grandmother for a while. My greatgrandfather Isaac died in 1924 in granite Falls, WA. I thinkk they lived there until his death and then at some point they moved to Seattle. Will write more when I have some new info. Thanks Tonee

Cousin Tonee,

I descend from Robert's brother, Titham James.
Titham's son, Etheral Wilson,
Etheral's son Maurice Joseph,
Maurice's son James Maurice.

I have Isaac's wife as Margaret Ramsey. Can you straighten this out? It listed Ramsey in the Fayette County marriage records.

I have most of the family posted on the internet, but I know virtually nothing about Isaac and Margaret's children, except for the names listed in the census. I hope you will share all you can about your branch.
The family website is at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~keffer/

My direct email is posted there.

James Michael Keffer

You are taking a long shot if you are hoping to find someone who actually knew your family.
If you want help from people who know lots about Keffers, even though they didn't know Frances, then you'll have to give up a little more information.
Do you have any ideas where she was from?
Where she got married?
Where she lived after marriage?
Where Phillip Curtis Love was from?
There are hundreds of branches all over the US. I know about most of them. I have every census entry for Keffers, but give me enough to make the effort worthwhile.

I can see why you're having trouble.
I have her name spelled Kesiah, from the 1900 census, where she is the wife of Washington Keffer. I assume your ancestor is Anna Mae who married John Shaner, because it was a Shaner who lived with his grandma in 1920. You can find Anna in their household in 1900.
Various sources have claimed Kesiah's maiden name was Miller. But, truthfully, Washington's brother, Loutellus, was also supposed to be married to Keziah Miller, and in the 1880 (Dunbar) his wife is Keziah. Go figure.
Washington was the son of Alexander and Fannie.
Alexander's parent's are believed to be Peter and Elizabeth.
His grandfather was Georg Adam, the immigrant. They settled in Bedford County. Part of Bedford was carved out to form Fayette. So, they have probably been in that area since before the revolution.
Washington and Kaziah (sp) can be found in the 1880 census of Upper Tyrone Township, before they had children.
Your particular line is the least known of Georg Adam's decendancy. But, you can find all we know of his lines on the Kieffer Association website: Kieffernews.org
Fron the homepage, select the K160 Project Tab to see our many databases.

Re: Keffer, Margaret in Clay/Nicholas Co., WV

Margaret Susan Keffer was born 12 May 1863 in Nicholas Co, WV. Her mother was Rachel Neff Keffer. We've never found a marriage.

Rachel had four children:
Abraham Keffer/Keiffer, b. abt 1860
Margaret Susan, b. 1863
Maria, b. abt 1864, m. MacArthur V.Corbitt
Samuel Austin Keffer/Keiffer, b. 6/4/1866

She is found in the 1870 census in the household of Isaac and Ruth Hughes in Grant Twp, Nicholas County.

We only know the four were siblings because there was a letter between two of them naming their sibs.

Abraham was raised in the household of Cynthia Higginbottom Keffer, wife of Henry who died after the 1860 census.
He is married by the time of the 1880 census, to Susan Donalson.

On the death record of Samuel Austin, his mother is listed as Rachel and father as Henry. This may be completely erroneous, but if it were true, it is still impossible to tell whether it is Henry (Sr) who married Cynthia in his old age, or Henry Jr, who was closer to the right age, but also a married man like his father.

There have been a number of researchers who have contributed bits and pieces to put this scenario together. None of us can determine who Margaret's father was, but it is pretty clear they are all related to Henry Keffer of Nicholas County, who was born abt 1800 in Giles Co, Virginia, to Jacob Keffer and Margaret (Peggy) Fizer.

Hi...I guess you're my cousin. My mom was Virginia (Keffer) McMullen, and I am Linda, youngest of "Ginny" and "Gump's" children. My brother is Mickey, and my sisters are Carol and Cathy, all of whom still live in PA. I live in CA. I appreciate the pic of my mom and her sisters and wonder what event it was. I would love a pic of "Mima" and grandfather Bill, if you have any. Not sure if posting email address is allowed. Hope you see this post sometime soon.

I know little more than what I've seen in the census.

Alonzo E. Keffer was the son of George A. Keffer and Margaret Raines. He can be found in their family in the 1880 census of Monroe Co, WV. (Actually born abt 1876)
George's father, Henry, came from Giles Co, Virginia, and lived shortly in Monroe County before moving on to Nicholas County. So, finding Alonzo in Giles, VA, in the 1920 and 1930 census means he was returning to the homestead.

I would be interested in learning more of them. I descend from another branch of the same family.

I don't have a lot, but Harry A. Keffer was a son of Ferdinand and Henrietta C. Keffer.

See them 1870, 1880 in Columbiana Co, Ohio,
(1880 spelled Keffir).

Both say Ferdinand was born in Virginia, Harriet in Pennsylvania. Both Ferdinand's parents from Maryland.

I have not been able to find Ferdinand in his parent's household.

Can you tell us where you found Cora's maiden name?

I know that there are only 2 Living children left of John and Mamie. Also that John spelled his middle name Luis as for a report card that he signed when he took care of my father and uncle. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to find info on my "part-time" Grandfather -- Robert Alexander Keffer, born about 1889 in the Pearisburg, Virginia area. He was about 27 years old in 1917 according to his WWI draft registration card. He was average in height and slender, had black, or dark brown hair and blue eyes. He listed Ripplemead, Va. as his place of birth. He worked for the railway out of Roanoke, Va. and Princeton WV.

The spelling of his middle name on the draft card was "Elex," but he signed the card "Alex Keffer." I can rememeber my Mom saying that pronunciation when saying the name "Alex." Maybe a dialect from the area?

Anyway, he didn't stay with my Grandmother for very long after my Mother was born. My Grandmother wound up staying at the Roanoke County Jail with her older daughter and my Mom. She worked as the Jail cook until she had firm plans to re-marry, then adopted my Mother out to the Roanoke County Deputy Sheriff, Joseph Bradley and his wife, Della.
Though I have no proof, I highly suspect George was a son of John and Rachel Keffer. Theirs is one of two Keffer families in Jackson County in 1840.
John was 55 in the 1850 census, born in Ohio. The other Keffer was Joseph, and I don't think he was old enough. He was 39 in 1850.
