Thank you for your reply. Now, how are you related - who are your parents, where were you born, husband's name & do you have any children. This is of great interest to Marlene Keiderling - she is out of the Iowa group - loads of them - & she has been searching for Frederick's family for years. Any info you can send will be put in our geneology books for our children to know we were not a tiny family.

So good to hear that I could help with a piece the puzzle. I have found most of the burial sites in Iowa and would love to travel up there one day. Has anyone found out exactly which part of Germany they traveled from. Have you seen the logs?

Linda, In this message, I just reviewed it, Barbara did not marry a Kasper Tentlinger - his last name was Dutlinger & when he died, Barbara collected his civil war pension. The reason for the wrong name - on their marriage entry, it was spelled Tentlinger & her last name was spelled Keidling. I'm glad I was able to find this big boo boo & can make it right. By the way, were you able to find the dates of births I hoped you could find.

With that last bit of info you were able to send, we have hit the jackpot. When Nichlas Keiderling & his wife Barbara c. Eimer came to this country, they brought 4 boys with them. Charles (Carl], Henry [Heinrich], Martin & Adam. They did settle in N.J. & then had Catherine & Nicklas there. Martin & his wife later went to Iowa taking Nick with them & so the Iowa family started. Charles went to Iowa first & married Emma J. Denny & they also started their family The original Nichlas & Barbara came on the ship, Elise, in 1854 & the ship log tells they were headed for Wisc. but they didn't get any further then N.J (my home state] there is no way to tell why they settled there, tired of traveling, sickness, etc. My e-mail is boopty@eazy.net. Hello everyone. Here is what I have. My grandfather Raymond Frederick McKinley (adopted name) was a Keiderling. His father Fred died of a huge flu epidemic. Fred was married to Blanche Jolls. Of course they lived in Waterloo/Blackhawk Iowa. From what I have researched Freds father was Nick Keiderling and mother was Kate (no maiden name) It looks from the messages on here that my Nick was one of the brothers born in NJ that moved on to Iowa. Do we have any more information on our German heritage and does anyone have any more on the family as I would love to make sure I am on the right track.

Hi Linda, I'm writing to let you know all the info I have on Frank - his wife, Linnie, divorced him in 1935 in Iowa. I found him in the 1930 census living in Cook County, Ill. married to some one else. His father's name was Martin & Mother's name was Mary Collins. His grandfather's name was Niclaus K. & he came from Germany in 1854 on the ship Elise along with his wife, Barbara, c..Nichlaus was born Jan. 9. 1815 and died March 14,1865 in N.J. Barbara remarried Casper B. Tentlinger but I have no idea when she died but I believe it was in Pa.. Martin had 4 brothers - Heinrich (Henry). Adam, Carl (Charles_ all born in Germany, Nicholas born in N.J.& a sister, Catherine. Martin is buried in Waterloo, Iowa - Fairview Cemetery & he died 1915. I started the Keiderling search some years back with only 5 names & now have over 400 so if there is anything else you want to know let me know. ooh, my God, I cant believe that anybody else apart from me is searching for Keiterling or Keiderling. They seem to be the same people. All German Heritage. My Mother is one of the Keiterling that is still alive. I would be glad if we can start communicate. I live in Germany and I am waiting for your Reply. Thank you very much.

I haven't been able to find any other information about Melvin or Frank (my line). I did not know my grandfather or his family, so I have very few leads. I'd love to hear about anything you might find, though!

Linda, The message I sent you about Frank was wrong in Ill.. There were 3 Franks born about the same time & so I made a mistake. I pulled up your tree & because so many are still living - children of Loretta, Loraine & Melvin, I would like to have some names & dates of those heirs to our family. Helen K. Malone

After studying the Bromberg (Germany) Church records, found Emma Zimmerman born to Carl Louis Zimmermann and Minnie Strahl in 1854, then found a Clara Zimmermann born to Carl Louis Zimmermann and Auguste Flade 1847.

Any possible relation of my Flade to your Carl Friedrich Flade 2/2/1873?

Hi Bret, I received your message & have lots of questions. First, have you checked Ancestry.com for any info about any relatives in the states with that spelling. Believe me, I've pulled up many different spellings for Keiderling - Keiterling. Kiederling. Keyderling, etc. I believe it was because of their gutteral speech plus sometimes they didn't know the correct spelling of their name. I started with 3 names about two years ago & now have hundreds. I looked in the phone book one day for Keiderling & there was one. It turned out Bruce & I were born in the same hospital in Plainfield, N.J. & our grandfathers were brothers - two years apart. I don't know how long you have been doing this but don't give up because you will hit many brick walls as I've done. Do you or your other relatives live in the states & if so I will give uou some more hints on hunting for your relatives. If I pull up any info with that spelling, I will let you know immediately. I am looking for information on John V. Keiderling born 1868 married Carrie Van Ness from Piscataway. They had a daughter born 1908 also named Carrie and found living in Plainfield 1909 living at 341 Watchung Avenue and 1929 living at 113 East 5th Street. In the 1929 Plainfield City Directory, Carrie's father, Nelson Van Ness from Piscataway is also living with them. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Wife's name starts with an "L" -might be "Linnie?", Age: 37, Born: Nebraska, Dad Born: Germany, Mom Born: Germany

Melvin, Age: 10, Born: Wyoming
Loraine, Age: 6, Born: Iowa

Melvin is my grandfather. Any information would be appreciated!!

My Grandmother was a Ketterling. I believe they underwent a name change when they migrated to Southern Russia. However, they were originally from Germany.

Horschlitt is a part of the town of Berka/Werra. Berka/Werra belongs to Thuringia. At about 1800 it belonged to "Sachsen-Weihmar-Eisenach" All Keiderlings of my family come from Berka/Werra or small villages close to, as Wuenschensuhl or Horschlitt is. So the original name is maybe Keiderling instead of Keiterling. Up to now, nobody could tell me anything about the ethymological meanig of the name Keiderling. Kind regards, Siegfried

I am related to Clara Keiterling Von Schlesien born in Chemnitz, Germany on April 4, 1867. She married a ship's captain named Mathias Herman Dreyer from Papenburg, Germany. The followng is a few Keiterlings who might be related but are not confirmed as relatives :

Cristiane Wilhelmine Schlesien married Carl Friedrich Flade 2/2/1873 in Pfaffroda, Chemnitz, Sachsen

Catherina Elisabeth Keiterling born 11/11/1841 in Horschlitt, Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, Thuringen -
father Philipp Stein - mother Catharina Keiterling

I am assuming that the "Von Schlesien" part of her name means that she is of "Schlesia or Silesia".

I think that the spelling of the name and it's rarity make it difficult to trace but if you have any other ideas, they would be appreciated.

Just a remark. My family - just w.r.t. the Keiderlings - comes, as far as I know, from Thuringia. But, when I was in West-Berlin end of the eighties, there lived a widow with family name Keiderling. She told me, that the family of her husband definately came from Silesia (Geman: Schlesien), not from Thuringia. But, since she didn't know much about the Keiderlings, she couldn't (or didn't want to) tell me any further details.

I am researching the Keiterling name in my family in reagrds to Clara Keiterling Von Schlesien. She was born in 1874 in Chemnitz, Germany and married Mathias Herman Dreyer who was born in 1872 in Papenburg, Germany. Mathias was a ship's captain and married Clara in New Jersey in 1905. They had two children named Elizabeth and Martin and divorced at one point as Mathias remarried. Clara died in 1935 in New Jersey.
