I was doing some research on the Kellett name and found this. My mother is a kellett she is Florence, daughter of charles Kellett. When I showed this to her she said that she remembers all of her aunts that were listed. She got out the death notice of her father and we were able to verify all the names of his surviving sisters.

My sister in law is descended from James Kellett. I have since found that Ben and Susan had a farm at Castlereagh near Penrith NSW. They are both buried in the Methodist cemetery at Castlereagh.

Hi all,
There is a KELLETT who was on board and became missing during a 1915 shipwreck of the Arabic as it was bound for New York. The ship was torpedoed by the Germans. MILLERSBURG, Ill. - Lehman B. Kellett, 85, Millersburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at his home.

Services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, Ill. The Rev. Chleo Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Millersburg.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Kellett was born on March 15, 1917, in Bethany, Ark., the son of Roy and Hazel Schults Kellett. He married Lorene Johnson on Feb. 25, 1940, in Ravenden Springs, Ark.

He received his education from the local schools in Arkansas.

He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was employed at Boney's Farm Store, Aledo, first as a general laborer and then as a small engines repairman. He later owned and operated his own small engine repair business in Millersburg.

He was an avid fisherman and coon hunter and enjoyed camping. He loved to watch baseball on TV and spend time with his coon dogs.

Survivors include his wife; children, Helen Whitmire and her husband, Eldon, of Rock Island, Ill., Shirley Combs and her husband, Don, of Hoxie, Ark., Dwaine Kellett and his wife, Carol, Doyle Kellett and his wife, Diane, Jim Kellett and his wife, Eva, and Concetta Ann Kellett Tharp, all of Millersburg; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Nola Golden of Pocahontas, Ark. and Maggie Kellett Young of Barstow, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

I do not believe that is true if you look at the dates the children were born. I also have most if not all of the death certificates and obituaries and there was never a mention of any other wife.

I think there was a "Mary" between Nancy Meeks and Sarah Dagnall, but to be honest, I cannot recall the source documentation - my mother and I worked on this genealogy about 30 years ago, and I recorded most of it in Family Tree Maker, but did not properly document all the sources.

Benjamin Franklin Perry Kellett and Nancy Martha Meeks are my ancestors through their daughter Mary Jane Kellett (married Henry Washington Miller). You wrote that BFP Kellett had another wife between Nancy Martha (died ca 1866) and Sarah Dagnall. Who is this "second" wife and what is your source. I would appreciate any information.

There's a Nancy Kellett who's one of six children of Benjamin Franklin Perry Kellett and Nancy Meeks, who were married ca. 1853. I know nothing more about this particular Nancy other than that she was born in Fork Shoals, SC and was a half-sister to my ancester, Samuel Franklin Kellett, by BFP's third wife, Sarah Dagnall.

Looking for information about Nancy Kellett. She married David Holcombe and I believe lived in South Carolina, Georgia, Marion County Alabama, Pike County Arkansas. They had 12 children. She moved to Pike County Arkansas in the 1850's.

Would like to know who her parents were. Would also like to know where her son, Wise Holcombe who served in the 16th Arkansas, was buried.

Looking for further information about David & Jane Kellett & their connection with 7 year old niece, Elizabeth NUGENT, my GrGrGrandmother, who is living with them in the 1821 census. They are listed just after the Solomon & Ellen Kellett family. Elizabeth's parents & siblings are listed not far in a different townland also in Lurgan Parish.
The Nugent family went to Ontario, Canada about 1829-30.

I have Nugent family from Edenburt, Lurgan Parish, Cavan.
We believe Elizabeth is the daughter of Francis and Mary Nugent, dates fit for the family when they arrived in Canada circa 1830. Trying to find out if David Kellett's wife Jane was a Nugent, or was Francis Nugent's wife, Mary, a Kellett?
Any leads would be appreciated.

is the son of Solomon Kellett b abt. 1782 Co., Cavan, Ire. and Ellen b abt. 1783 Ireland. Solomon is found in the 1821 census with 5 children: Charles b abt. 1805; David b abt. 1807; James b abt. 1813; Mary b abt 1815; Edward b abt. 1818 and brother Charles age 55??. Possible brother David age 42 lives next door; with Edward Kellett 14, nephew; Elizabeth Nugent 7, niece.

Edward b abt 1818, d 3 Feb 1893 Co. Cavan, Ireland, m Anne Gilmore b 3 Oct 1821 Baileburough, Co. Cavan, Ireland, d 17 Jan 1882 Co. Cavan, dau. of James Gilmore and Martha Smith.

Perhaps there was more than one Daniel - I don't know of a George. My Daniel KELLETT was married to Sarah WILKINSON, and the children I know of run from Daniel b 1824 (sometimes appears in transcripts as David) to Emanuel, b abt 1850; my ancestor was Eden b 1834, who married Solomon BARTLE. Does that look familiar?

I am researching Zillah Kellet born in Batley 26 February 1854. Her parents were James Kellett and Margaret Whitehead.

Zillah Kellett actually went to Australia and married a Thomas Chapman in 1887.

Mark, my family now resident in Australia appears to have centuries of family connections with the Kelletts reaching back at least to 18th century Ireland. I'm a Hartley whose Irish ancestors left Balheary, Swords (just north of Dublin) in 1853. Previously these Hartleys and Kelletts lived in Oldcastle in Meath circa 1780s thru 1830s at least. My Kelletts also intermarried with Ffolliotts. We also have connections to horse breeding. I took my family to Swords and Oldcastle in 2007 but apart from enjoying the scenery we found nothing at the Oldcastle cemetery. Do either of these surnames - Hartley or Ffolliott - sound familiar re your Kelletts from Cavan? It is very close to Oldcastle. Regards, Doug Hartley

My Kellett branch stops with Solomon Kellett DOB c.1782, married to an Ellen (no maiden name yet). Living here in the States, I am challenged as to obtaining records in Ireland, England and Scotland. I am so pleased to be gathering some data from other Kellett family memebers who have been kind enough to share records.

Other family names are Gilmore/Gilmour & Smith & Anderson all from Scotland. Solomon and Ellen I suspect were from Ireland. Any Kellett out here have these people in their tree?

I am stuck after getting so many leads ... seems I have no more new information on any of the Kelletts, and find nothing on the Gilmores in Scotland prior to their move to Ireland.

Hello Rob.
The names you mention occur in my family, however all are common to the area of Bradford. I don't know what happened to john Kellett - i'll look into it. i do think that all the Kelletts in that area are related way back - the christian names recur regularly. I intend going to Bradford this summer to check the old records. I currently live in Cumbria UK, so am of no help re the USA connection.

My Kellett ancestors lived in Low Moor Bradford, A John Kellett was born there in 1827 - brother to my gt gt grandfather. He may not be the john Kellett you are looking for, there do however seem to be a great many Kelletts living in the area at the time. I've traced my ancestors back to a William Kellett b. c1781 - place of birth unknown.

I have noticed the discussion about the horse-raising Kelletts of County Cavan and want to call your attention to a posting in the IRL-CAVAN-L Archives:

Though it has quite a bit of Kellett genealogy it has nothing about the Kelletts as horse raisers. It does, however, contain the following sentence:

“A cousin Joseph (Jody) WATSON from Virginia [in County Cavan] transported draft horses from Belgium to Nebraska.”

This sounded very much like my great-uncle Joseph Watson (brother of my grandmother Alicia Watson), born 1850 in County Cavan.

Joseph first had a horse-importing business in Beatrice, Nebraska. He later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he was also involved in the horse trade. He died in 1912 in England while on a business trip.

I corresponded with the author of the posting cited above, and we decided that if her father and Joseph Watson were cousins, the relationship was more distant than that of first cousins.

I think there are so many Kelletts' in the area with so many similar names that it's almost impossible to get many links going back to the 18th century.
I have a tree in Ancestry.UK which I have now made public,you are welcome to have a look and may be abkle to come up withsome suggestions.

Thanks for the line,however you didn't mention where you are living or if you had reason to think that"your"John may have emigrated to the US.
I agree entirely with your comment on the number of Kelletts' in the Bradford area,along with Barraclough,Seed,Clough and Priestley families who all figure in my Kellett connection.
I have traced the Kellett Line back to Ahab Kellett(Bc1740) who married Sarah Blamyers(Bc1745)in 1765 in Bradford,however this information is from the IGI so I can't be certain that everything is 100% correct.This couple did have a son who appears to have been named Willy(probably short for William)who was born c1782 but I have no further details on him.
"My"John's parents were Joseph Kellett(Bc1789)and Margaret Barraclough(Bc1786)who were one set of my G4Grandparents and,I believe,they had 9 sons',I haven't come across any daughters.One of these sons' was also a William,the forename does appear regularly in the family but I suppose it was common all over.
