Classification: Query
Surnames: KELLS, COLVIN, ELLIOTT, RENNICK
Francis KELLS and wife Margaret COLVIN of Creevlea townland, Clones parish, County Monaghan, Ireland, christened a son, Elliott KELLS, at Clones parish Church of Ireland in 1821. I'd like to find out more about Margaret and her husband Francis KELLS.
My COLVINS/CALVINS were also farmers at Creevelea and must have been related to Margaret COLVIN. They were Presbyterian but family records are found in both the Stonebridge Presbyterian church near Creevlea, and Clones Church of Ireland.
from Clones parish Church of Ireland registers:
Child: Elliott KELLS
Christened: 29 JUN 1821 Clones, Co. Monaghan
Father: Frans. KELLS
Mother: Margt. COLVIN
--------------------------------------------------------
Tithe Applotment Books show no KELLS in Co. Monaghan, but Francis and Margaret KELLS were definitely living at Creevlea in 1821. Did they remain in Co. Monaghan? There are many KELLS in Co. Cavan and Fermanagh, but none seem to match this Clones/Creevelea family.
Several researchers have posted helpful data on KELLS, particularly those in Co. Cavan, but so far nothing fits the family of Francis KELLS and Margaret COLVIN. Various family trees on other sites have "Elliott KELLS" as the son of Francis KELLS and Margaret COLVIN, or other KELLS fathers and mothers, but none cite sources or even include the Clones Church of Ireland record. Those who've responded to my inquiries have less data than I do.
Was "Francis KELLS" who married Mary RENNICK in 1844 at Clones also a son of Francis KELLS and Margaret COLVIN?
Clones Church of Ireland registers:
Marriage: FRANCIS KELLS & MARY RENNICK
Date: 20 MAR 1844 - Clones, Monaghan, Ireland
This Francis and Mary baptised several children at Clones in the latter 1840s, and he may be one of the two "Francis KELLS" listed in Currin parish, Co. Monaghan, in Griffith's Valuation. Perhaps father and son? COLVINS/CALVINS are known to have lived in Currin parish in the 1820s-1830s, although they no longer appear there by the time of Griffith's.
I'll be glad to share more research notes and would appreciate hearing from anyone with further information on Francis KELLS and Margaret COLVIN of County Monaghan, Ireland.
