I am looking for any information about my great-great-grandfather, Joseph Sidney Kellum, and his ancestors. He had a son, Clyde Sterling Kellum, by his first wife, Lena, and two more sons, Joseph Jr. and Lewis Kellum, by his second wife, Teria. He was born in Georgia and live in Bibb, Shelby, and Jefferson counties in Alabama. I believe he was at one time the superintendent of the coal mine at Boothton.

Re: John Weslsey Kellum from Arkansas

I have already sent one message to you recently but I could not help but send another one after reading some of the postings. We (dad, mom, me and my sister) all live in Arkansas. My sister worked at a nursing home in the very southern part of Arkansas for awhile and there was a resident in the home by the name of Clyde Kellum. She said he was the "spitting image" of our dad. By the way, I think the family called dad either J.W. or Dub. Anyway, dad went to the nursing home to meet Clyde and he said that he thought Clyde looked more like his brother James Edward than himself but my sister still says that Clyde walks like dad, crosses his legs like dad and has the exact same way of folding his hands in his lap that my dad does. (You have to see it to know what I mean.)This makes me wonder about the adoption story. Dad told me that grandpa had also told him was adopted. We have wondered if it was an adoption in the true legal sense that we understand now, or if he meant that he was taken in by a family that was no relation to him. It was very common during the time that grandpa was growing up for children to be orphaned and often neighbors would take the children (sometime splitting them up)and raise them without changing their names. (This actually happened to my mother's father and all of his siblings. His mother died when he was 8 years old and then his father abandoned them shortly after her death. There were too many of them for one family to take all of them so a few went to live with one neighbor and a couple more went to another neighbor and so on.)I read that Connie has tracked down grandpa's and grandma's marriage license. How and where did she find it?

Re: NativeAmerican Kellums?

There may be some confusion. the Kellum's came over from Germany and Ireland. they settled in the North around NYC. Then in the early 1800's the men went South to Texas. These travelers founded Waco, TX. there is a museum there just for Kellum's. Apparently, the farming dried up, so the men went back North for jobs. When they came back the local Indians killed most and took the women and children. This is where the women came into the picture. We also have Mexican blood living so close to the border. Initially it was 2 Kellum brothers that came from Europe 6 months after the Mayflower landing. A relative, Kieth Kellum, has been documenting the genealogy for the museum for years. I served with him in Iraq in 2000-2002. Drop him an email if you want more info.

Keith Kellum
12708 Dodder Drive
Alexander, AR 72002
PH: 501-794-1642

sk1kkellum@sbcglobal.net
My email is ikellum1@yahoo.com if you want to say hello. The Kellum's I know of live all over Texas, California, Oregon and Washington states.
Irl Kellum

Re: Sarah Adeline Kellum
sjanvier (View posts) Posted: 5 Mar 2007 8:57PM GMT
Surnames: Kellum
Not sure if my line connects, but there are some name similarities. My Great-grandmaother was born Sarah Kellum. I don't know of a middle name, but her mother's name was Adeline Pino, and her father's name was Levi Kellum. Levi was born in Warren County, Georgia (1814) according to my records. My great grandmother was born in Baton Rouge LA. I have very little on the Kellums. If there is a connection, would love to know what you have.
==============================
The family that you have mentioned here are not connected to this Kellum line. You could be related to a distant family member, but there is nothing that I can find that connects you to this one. The Kellum line that I am related to had lived in MS. from right after 1840, on.

Sorry I could not help

My mother-in-law's connection is thru Texa. She is her grandmother.

The children I have right off for Ezra & Julia Craig (Kellum [Kellams]) Kerfoot from the 1900 US Federal Census in Galena, Woods Co., Indian Territory (Oklahoma was not a state till 1907) are:
Davie b. July 1880
Texia (their spelling for Texa) b. July 1885
Grace b. March 1888
Willie (hard to read on census) E. b. Nov 1889
May b. April 1894
Ruth b. March 1896 (your connection)
Bessie B. b. Sept 1897

Do you know anything about Julia's parents; Harrison & Elizabeth (Buckles) Kellum [Kellams]? Especially their father, Harrison.

I have not been able to find anything on him other than finding them with a Craig family on the 1850 US Federal Census for Southern District No. 2, Hardin Co., KY.

Harrison Kellum [Kellams] has been a brick wall for me for a long time now.

I have noted that Harrison & Julia had 3 sons before Julia was born. They are:
William H. Kellams b. 1851
John F. Kellams b. 1855
James B. Kellams b. 1858

Please remember this is just notes I have taken in regards the those sons. I have not proven that information as I quit working on the Kellum [Kellams] when I couldn't seem to find anything on Harrison. Haven't started back yet either.

If you want to contact me directly, you can do so at clatwood@sbcglobal.net

Crystal Atwood

The item I was looking for was right beside news of his murder, so I have a partial copy of the write-up. It was published in The Republican-News, Hamilton, OH, Wed. 10 Feb 1909 (that's in Butler County). He was gunned down 09 Feb 1909 in College Corner, IN, at age 45. He had eight children, was a Methodist minister, and was also an attorney and editor of the College Corner News.

I am looking for my further infor on my Great Grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Kellum. He married Lucinda Moore Neely in Talbot County, Ga in 1867. They had one son, William Kellum. The story goes that TJ Kellum disappeared and never came back, thought him to be dead. The rumor is that he ran off to Texas to live with a brother also named William. He was not living with Lucinda or son William on the 1880 census, but a TJ Kellum was found to be living in a boarding house in Texas (1880 census) and then at age 63, he was living with a brother named William. I am just trying to find out if this is the missing TJ Kellum and if he remarried or had other children. My great grandmother never divorced him and never remarried.
If you think that this TJ Kellum maybe the same one, please contact me.
Thanks
Kathy

David, I am responding to this in regards to Idela, Ettie, Sarah, and Danial Sherman which are in the 1880 census with Daniel Kellems, 60, and Sirantha (or Serintha)30. They were married 17 May 1868. (Serintha Abbott is the sister of my greatgrandmother.) Their parents were David and Christina (Lininger) Abbott. Grandparents were William and Martha Abbott, pioneers in Pike County from North Carolina in 1814. Daniel and Sirantha are in the 1870 census with a 3 month old Lewis Filmore who did not live to the 1880 census. If I can add any information to this since your 2003 posting, please let me know.
Kellum in Arkansas

My ggrandparents were LouElla Norman (1874-1911) S.J. "Jack" Kellum (ca. 1865-1901). They lived in White County, Arkansas. Family lore has it that Jack died in a tornado after they had 2 children: Willy and Nancy Edna (my grandmother).

Unfortunately, I have no solid information about Jack or his people other than this. He was listed as a "Kellums" in the marriage record.

It has been suggested, but I have no verification, that my Kellum's appear to be descendants of Smith Kellum and Polly Parker Kellum. Smith Kellum was born in Accomack CO. VA and Married Polly Parker there. Smith Migrated to Wake County North Carolina and left there for Davidson, CO, TN approx. 1820. One of the kid's known as Smith Kellum also migrated from TN to Searcy, AR. I'm hoping this is my Kellum--can anyone help?

After Jack Kellum's death, LouElla (nee Norman) married Joseph Mack Sullivan (1867-1916), a widower who was born in Mississippi. His children from his first marriage included George, Jess,Ira, Nora, Lena, Mattie and Jack. Jospeh and LouElla had three more daughters, Alice Irene, Lottie Lucille and Florence Belle.
LouElla died after giving birth to Florence. When Joseph died in 1916, the Sullivan/Kellum family moved to Amarillo,
Texas.

I would greatly appreciate any help learning more. Thanks very much.

Pat
