Hi Patricia, I hope you are still doing this amazing research... I am Kempe in Australia.....
I am only now fascinated with the Kempe line.... and have (with alot of help) started researching my family....

My main man is Richard Kempe b c 1791 that I KNOW.... I dont know where to go from here...

Anybody studying the Kempes should have a look at 'The Kemp amd Kempe Families of Great Britain and her Colonies' written by Fredk. Hitchin_Kemp amd published in around 1912 by The Threadneedle Press Ltd.

Im not too sure about Flanders, I live in Florida, USA and the Kempe name I have came from My Grandfather in Sweden. So Its a Swedish Background for me.

I am wortking on a commissioned "biography" of the real Winnie the Pooh. He was made in Acton Middlesex by Sybil Kempe - daughter of musician Charles Thomas in 1920. She was born in Wilmslow Cheshire in 1876. I have her in the 1881 census and 1891. I found her attending the funeral of her employer Agnes Farnell (teddy bear manufacturer) in 1928. Then she vanishes. I am desperate to find some family information about her, Did she marry? When did she die. Thanksso much!

Amy Kempe born 1576 in Dartford, Kent, England, died 7 Sep 1631 Prestwold, Leicestershire, England. She was the daughter of Thomas Kempe (1551-1607) and Amy (Annie) Moyle born 7 Nov 1551 Wye, Kent, England, died in same place May 1629. I found this in the I.G.I. years ago. I don't know if it is correct or not. I thought it might help.

In 1991 I met by coincidence a Dutch woman living in Terneuzen. She made a paper on the name of 'Dekempe' for her study of genealogist. She made a remark on my name she could read my uniform. I do not have her name, nor the paper.

Jonas was the son of Anders Andersson Kempe (1835-1910) and Johanna Jonsdatter (1834-?).

Margareta Johanna Kempe (1857-?) who was born on November 12, 1857 in Graning, Sweden; Andreas Kempe (1859-?) who was born on September 19, 1859 in Bollsta, Sweden; Elisabeth Andrieta Kempe (1866-?) who was born on June 09, 1866; Andreas Linus Kempe (1868-?) who was born on October 31, 1868; Bror Rudolph Kempe (1871-?) who was born on April 15, 1871; Frida Helena Kempe (1873-?) who was born on October 30, 1873; and Rudolph Kempe (1880-?) who was born on January 27, 1880.

Death:
Jonas died in 1918 and was buried in Bollsta, Västernorrland, Sweden.

regarding the origine of the name KEMPE,you are on the right track.
our familie lives in west-flanders,near the coast,there are differend ways to spell or pronounce it.De kempe ...Dekempe....Kempe... De Kimpe.
we are only able to go back untill 1780's because before that litlle records where kept in flanders, and after that a lot was lost due to invading forces ( napoleon....germany 2x...).there are also verry few with the name left...all in the coastal region and probably releted (no proof for that)i do know what the name means!!
in old flemmisch it means....1)someone who loves to pick a fight...2) a grower of "kemp "(was smoked like marijuana with the same effect ).....most of us are living in Brugge and the coastal region now.
so i hope this will be usefull to you

I have been researching the Kempe line's for over twenty years now. Mostly starting back in England (Norfolk area circa 1200) to the present. Covering the areas of Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cornwall, Dorset, Isle of Wight .

Going forwards I am researching all Kemp/Kempe's/ Kemp-Welch's in the United States, England, Newfoundland, Germany (?) (Formerly known as Prussia) and Australia.

Going backwards. Anywhere in England, Prussia.

I have reason to believe the English Kemp/Kempe line originated in the Flanders area or Alsace Lorraine Province.

I also have reason to believe the Kempe's were granted lands in Ireland sometime between 1550-1700.

I am MORE then willing to share and help research. If you're interested please contact me. My gedcom covers over 32,000 individuals at this time.

I have been researching the Kemp/Kempe line's for over twenty years now. As far as I know there is no definitive proof there were two wives for Thomas. ALTHOUGH there is noted a will for Anne Kempe, wife of Thomas dated 14 OCT 1590 for Wye, Kent, England. Dorothea Thompson Kempe had her own will probated 14 NOV 1626, proved MAY 1629. I have a copy of Dorothea's will at my website "Kemp/Kempe Descendant's Of Olantigh & Poole England", where Dorothea mentions the girls. I have yet to obtain Anne's will which should prove to be interesting in itself. If someone should obtain this said will maybe Anne might have left a clue as to her surname.

sorry, i can't be of any help,we traced our roots back untill mid 18 century,before that we can't find a thing,a lot has been lost during the two ww's the only thing where sure about is that all the ancestors lived in the coastal region of west flanders (belgium) best regards

My mother's maiden name was Martwich. She was born in Dallas in 1917 to Carl Emil Martwich and Lena Regina Czarowitz Martwich. My grandfather was a baker. My mother had a cousin by the name of Harry Kempe. I could find out more about this from my mother's cousin, Lillian Melbourne. I think she is familiar with family history.

Hi, my husband is descended from a whole family of Kemps/Kempes, originally from Wye and moving to Whitstable in the early 17th century. The earliest I've got back to is Josias Kemp, born about 1552 in Wye, who married Ellen Norrington. The Whitstable Oyster Dredgers' site suggests he was the son of one of the brothers of Sir William Kempe, who died about 1533. Would you or any other lister have a clue about whether or not this was the case? I'dlove to know more about both Josias and his wife Ellen.

Hi, Shelagh - I am VERY interested in the Kempes of Wye - especially Josias Kempe, who was born about 1552, and who is 13 generations back from my husband. I'm not sure if he's one of the Ollantigh family, but he was definitely born at Wye, and married Ellen Norrington (who also cannot be found anywhere on the internet, as far as I can see). I'm already in touch with Carolyn Kemp about Josias's descendants at Whitstable, but would love to know more about the man himself, if you can help!

Looking all over for the Kempe's from Johnson and Chokio, Minnesota. My great-grandfather came to Washington and had a brother- maybe by the name of Otto. My grandfather was born in Minnesota in 1901. My great-grandfathers name was Bernhard Kempe married to Ernestine Zimmerman. Looking for my family as their are not many that I know right now.

Does anybody have any information on a Thomas Kempe who married Anne Throckmorton who supposedly was born about 1675. Supposedly they had a daughter Elizabeth who married William Ball (born 1740). As you can see there is a bit of a problem with the time line here. I'm sure there are other problems with this also but any help or suggestions would be most appreciated. Carolyn Scott

Anyone have any knowledge of an Oliver Kempe born about 1325. He served in the Black Prince's campaign in France 1355-7 and probably fought at the battle of Poitiers.
