Andrew Keneday Oakland Co. Michigan 1850 and 1860

This guy shows up on both the 1850 (age 61) and 1860 (age 71) census in Michigan's Oakland Co. (Springfield) very near in the list to some of my other relatives. I am wondering if any of you are researching his name and/or family?? He is listed as born in Scotland on both census'. Has anyone here got Scotland/Ireland/England census images who would see if you can open anything for me? I'd like to know who he married and who his siblings are, ages and children if it's possible.
In Andrew's household is an Alexander at age 50 (1850 census) and I'm wondering if this is a brother and/or possibly the father of my George who is the very next household. Andrew could possible be George's father also as George is 27 years old.
All three Andrew, Alexander and George were born in Scotland.
Thank you so much.

I'm Familiar with Martin, if I recall correctly, prior to 1775 (no firm established date on this). According to an old copy of my family history written by my great uncle, Martin had Brothers James, Charles and Garrett. None of this has been traced and confirmed.

Re: KENADY FROM CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY

My Johnson lines married with Kenady and Kennedy lines from NC in the 1700's through Christian County, Kentucky in the early 1800's, to a Mary Violetta Kenady born in Illinois & migrated to Oregon.

Some of my Johnson women who married Kenady/Kennedy men I have been unable to trace. For instance:

Catherine Johnson
b abt 1770 in North Carolina
parents William Johnson & Marian Buie
m John Kennedy/Kennady

When did they marry? Don't know. What happened to them? Don't know. There are a number of Kenady/Kennedy/Kennady families living near my Johnson families in the 1810 Christian County, Hopkinsville Census. Could one of them be my Catherine's household? Very possible.

Catherine had a sister named Marian. Marian married a Thomas Kennedy/Kennady, Kenady. Did they migrate together with the other Johnsons & Kenadys (et al) to Kentucky?

I suspect some of my Johnson men married Kenady women.

When Mary Violetta Kenady married John Lawrence Johnson, but I don't know if they were cousins or not. It's possible. I don't know her parents, though.

Alice Rose Ella Kennedy and sister Nora Kennedy from Ohio

Hi,
according to family legend, Alice and Nora are distant relations to JFK's clan. Alice was born abt 1870-72, and Nora was born about 1866-1870, both in Ohio. Their immediate family, according to my grandmother, was in the Kenton, Ohio area. I'm looking for any help in finding out more on their immediate family. I have no clue to parents names, births or deaths, but both were born in Ireland. There were a couple of brothers, but, again, no names or dates. Alice and Nora both had nursing education somewhere on the East coast. Alice worked as a nurse in Tonapah, Neveda, a mining town, in the early 1900's and married James Eagan in 1908. They moved back to his family in Wisconsin soon after. Nora never married. She spent some time in Japan, (no kind of time frame for it tho) then spent over 30 years as a housekeeper for a Catholic house (church? seminary? monastery?) in Sonamo, California. In the early to mid 1930's they let her go, and she moved in with sister Alice and family in Wisconsin. Both Alice and Nora died in the 1950's in the Marcellon/Portage area of Wisconsin. So....if anyone might have some info they would like to share, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
In 1805 NC, Nancy Kenady gave birth to a daughter, Matilda

In 1805 Nancy Kenady gave birth to Andrew Coulter's daughter, Matilda Kenady Coulter, in Rutherfordton, Rutherford Co, NC.

Matilda may be illigetiment since no marriage record can be found for her parents, neither together nor married to others.
And Nancy is mentioned in name only as Matilda's birth mother in the will of Andrew Coulter (will abt 1812 if memory serves correctly). I have found no more on Nancy. I suppose it is possible she died in childbirth, but no research of NC cemeteries has yet turned up her grave marker to offer a date of death.

I would love to corresspond with other researchers of the NC Kenady families (and other spelling variations of the name).

Thank you for your response to my post. Much of your info is the same, especially the info about the origin of the Kennedys in early centuries. I found more info at www.maybole.org. Have you been to that site? A lot of pictures of Dunure and the old castle, also Cassilis House or Manor near Maybole and a lot about the Kennedys.
Some of my info is different than yours especially dates, places, etc. I will have to sort it all out when I return from my
trip out of town in 2 weeks.
I found new info about John Kennedy/Kenady/Kennady
b. 1740
First wife - Elizabeth Jemmerson, b. abt 1734. d. 1776 married abt 1762. Source:www.familysearch.org (Mormon Website)
I will post more when I return. I have 2 questions, though.
1. What is the Ahnentafel Chart?
2. Is Ray Long a relative of Sid KENNEDY and do you know how to get in touch with him if that is possible? Sid is/was
a distant relative and I have info from him and a letter, written in 1976 to my cousin Paul KANADY who did the genealogy I have. Paul is also deceased. Thanks again for the wonderful new information. I am still looking for info on Peter KENNADY
b. 1728. and fam. If you run across anything, please let me know. Could William KENNADY b. 1695 be his uncle?

Re: John KENADY born 1740 Kentucky.

I posted a reply to your message about William Kenady.
I just found this one and see we are talking about the same John Kennady. However some of our information is different.
I wonder if you are still doing research into this as your post was dated in 2003. Well, in case you are, my information
states that Elizabeth Countryman's parents were Henry and
Catherine Countryman, not Johann and the other name which I have forgotten. Anyway, I am not trying to contradict you or say that I am right. But I would like to know where you
got your info in case mine is wrong. My cousins did my
geneology and they are deceased. I find the information unorganized and some of it is conflicting information, so I
am trying to re-organize it.
I also noticed in your info on the Coy family that a Coy married a Elizabeth Cass Countryman. That isn't the same Elizabeth C. who married John Kenady is it? The dates
don't mesh. If so, she would still have been married to John
when she married the Coy man.
I also see William could not be Peter's father, if he was
still in Ireland in 1730 and just married, as Peter was born in
the states in 1728. I wonder if a relative of William's was Peter's father and emmigrated to the US in early 1700 or late
1600s. I will look into that more. Thanks for your information
Jeanne Kanady AlJabi

Re: William KENADY born 1695 Ireland

I wonder if your information is correct. I am a decendant of John Kennady who did die in Nelson Co KY. in 1802. My
geneology states he was born around 1735-42, not sure of
exact date, in Maryland. He had 2 wives and had 10 sons,
4 by the first wife, name unknown, but birth was around 1741 and they were married in 1762 in N.J. I believe she died in or about 1776, maybe childbirth, because there was a son born in 1776, John Jr.. John Sr. married Elizabeth Countryman in 1777 in Washington Md and they had 6 more sons. They moved to Nelson Co KY. after that. I am a decendant from on of the earlier sons, Moses who changed his name to Kanady. Is this the same John Kennady that you have? I am very anxious to know. I do know there were some Kennadys or Kenadys in GA but I haven't found how they are related to my family,.
I am actually looking for a Peter Kennady's linage, parents, etc.Peter is John' s Grandfather and was born in PA or VA in 1728. He supposedly lived in a fort for some years. A distant cousin, who has traced the Kennady/Kennedy family back to Scotland and visited there, says the family came over to US around 1699 from northern Ireland where they migrated to from Scotland. Do you have any info about Peter?. I wonder if William could be Peter's father? Thanks. Jeanne Kanady AlJabi
Kenady or Canida's of Winston and Marion Co Alabama

I was wondering if anyone might have any information on John H Kenady (Canida, Canady or Kennedy) of Marion County Alabama? James H and Mary Canida are his parents (shown on the 1860 Winston Co Alabama census.
His daughter Mary Frances is my great-grandmother. John married Eliza (or Louisa) Cagle. I need info that might definitely help tie Mary Frances Kennedy(Canady) to the same Mary F. that is shown on census forms with Eliza and John in Marion Co AL in 1870 and Louisa Kenidy in Marion Co AL 1880 census. It appears that this Eliza and Louisa are the same lady because of the name Marilda Cagle (neighbor) in 1870 and Rilda Cagle living in same household in 1880, with William Cagle next door and
Harriet Cagle with new husband David Clark next door to William. I have the 1850 and 1860 census forms for Charlie and Harriet and they both show Marilda and Eliza as daughters.
My great-grandmother is Mary Francis Kennedy Gray, she
married John Green Gray in 1889 Lake Co TN. I found
records of their marriage and it shows her last name as Cannad(a)y. On records that I have gathered from family, it shows she was born in Marion Co AL. I have conflicting birth dates, some sources show 1862 and others show 1866.
This has been a hard family to trace, especially with the different birth dates and the different spellings of the Kennedy or Canady last name. I found the records of the Cagle cemetary in Marion Co and it shows the following names: Cagle, Canada, and Kennedy. I don't know what took Mary Francis from Marion Co, Alabama to Lake Co Tennessee. Her obituary in 1952 states that she has a brother John living in California.

Thank you in advance for your help,
Neta Wheeler

Kenady Clan

Hi Kimberly, saw your post and thought Iwould tell you several years ago when I began in Earnest to trace my Kenady Clan ancestor it was a nightmare.I am not sure when they or someone decided to spell their name that way. The furthurist back I can trace my William Kenady is Laurens SC. Where he married my grandmother a young widow, 6 years his elder-She was Annie Bennett Boak-Kenady.Annies birth about 1810.
She had two living sons, Richard and Benjamin by a Benjamin Boak who died along with a baby of diptheria. She meets William ? Kenady in a nearby settlement in Laurens Sc. They marry , have Nancy, John, Miles, Sarah , Elizia, Calvin Carwild, James Pettus, and Willim Berry Kenady. They migrate to Randolph County Ala. We find them on the 1860 census there. Then I find courthouse records of them Spelled Kenady-obtaining
over 40 acres in RAndolph/Clay county 1859.
Later I find other mentions of them spelled Kennedy it switched back and forth. Another Kennedy family lived about 3 or 4 miles from the Sikesville, Alabama, Community, The name was Alexander and Martha Kennedy. They could have been kin as many of their children had same names. But the two have never claimed kin. Could have had a fued and changed spelling. I would dearly love to find the Family of my William Kenady-Canady-Kennedy whatever in Laurens District SC>Some of the relatives are buried at Mt. Gilead Methodist Church, Sikesville, lay County , Ala. (County lines changed later--the original post office said Almond, ALabama.
I have found Annies father--Laurens, Union District--Enoree or Duncans Creek -leaving a will with her name and her brother Miles, and sister Janeatte, and Mother Sarah bennet mentioned. There were several Kennedy-Canady families but i have not been able to inpoint my William -common name. If anyone runs across these names contact me. The surnames Pools and Youngs, McJunkin, Alexander also may fit in family line. Best regards, Nancy H

Kennedy Clan Names

Just what origin is the Kanady name? Scotch, Irish, Scotch Irish. There are many spellings of the Kennedy name. Don't feel left out as far as your clan is concerned if your spelling is a bit different. All spellings are welcome in the Kennedy Clan.

Some of the Kennedys who settled in the North of Ireland called
themselves O'Kennedy. One of these was Darby O'Kennedy of Ballekierogue
Castle, whose son John of Dublin, died in 1758.

The following spellings are given along with the dates of their
appearance. Spelling was not the exact science that exists today and
spelling was done by the person doing the writing, the way they heard
the name, therefore we find the following spellings all of which reflect
the name Kennedy; mac Kenedi about 1174, MacKenede 1185, MacKenedi reign
of Alexander I, Kenedi same period, Macenedy or Mackenedi 1240-8,
Mackenedy 1260, Makenedy 1266, MacKennedy 1230-70, Kenedy 1290, Kennedy
1296, Kennedy 1321, Kyneidy 1333-42, Keneidy 1342, Kennedy 1346,
McKenedy reign of Robert II, Kynidy 1376, Kennedye 1384, Kennedy 1390,
Kennyde 1393, Canedie 1420, Kenedi 1426, Kennadee 1450, Keneby and
Kenedy 1462, Kennedy of Bargnay 1464, Kennedy of Cullean 1464, Kenyde
1477, Kennydy and Kinydy 1486, Kennerty 1487, Kennerty 1493, Kennide
1500, Kennude 1520, Kanydi 1521, Kanide 1526, Kenide 1535, Kennite 1538,
Kendy 1439, Kenadie 1558, Kendye 1562, Kennetye 1566, Kennatie and
Kennaty 1567, Kenate 1575, Kennetie and Kennety 1583, and among the
Scots Guards in France, Camede.

If you are interested in a Society that has an interest in your Kennedy surname, contact the following nonprofit organization:
The Kennedy Society of North America
Donald G.
I would like to know if you are related in anyway. Kenady is a very unusual spelling, and I've already been contacted by someone who recognized the name Gage Kenady from McCook Nebraska. Brothers Faye and Bill. Want to know where abouts the name came from, and where my ancestors are from.

Why don't you e-mail me with your e-mail address? I don't really know a lot about Gage's background. He had brothers Jack, William, and Fay. Jack died in 1961. He had two children, Patrick and Mary. I don't know where either of them are. They formerly lived in Yuba City. William was my father-in-law and had two children, Daniel and Patricia. Daniel lives in Roseville, CA, 1829 Nighthawk Cir., Roseville 95661. I don't know if he'd have any further information, but you might try contacting him. Fay died around 1963. Dan might also put you in touch with his sister, Patricia, who might remember more about her uncle. I'm sorry I don't know more of the family background, but hope some of this is helpful. Send me your e-mail address, and I'll let you know if I find out anything else that might help you. Have you lost contact with Craig and his family?
