I'm NOT a relative! You probably have all of this by now. Go to the Illinois Unknown message board and check "date collapsed" messages over the last few days. Watch for B. Norris as the author. Susan descends from the same James K. and Catherine YOST. If you do a land search on the Secretary of State Illinois site, you will find where Edward Keenen (can't remember the exact spelling) got land in Pike Co. Illinois in the Military Tract in 1817. William K. also got land in the Military Tract in 1818 in Knox or Warren Co. Ill. (You'll have to check.) Susan descends from Melissa Keenen, daughter of your James. Melissa married someone with the same last name (various spellings) but Susan doesn't know his name. I figure that James came out here because of William (probably) or maybe Edward. Do you have any idea who Edward and William might be? William was from Ohio. I'm hoping that William had a son the right age who married his "cousin" of some sort. Illinois became a state in 1818 so it was still pretty wild up in the Knox/Warren Co area. According to the info from Bill Smith that I found on a name search on the home page, James immigrated to Warren Co. (now Henderson Co.) Illinois in 1838. That was about the time Melissa would have married. You might want to post a message to Susan. I (underlined) would be interested in finding out who William and Edward are. They would have been vets of the War of 1812 from "the East", I think. I'm surprised that there isn't much on ancestry.com about them since they seemed to have the military connection.
Karen, I don't know if this is much help but this is the information I have. I'm afraid it's not very much. Thomas Kenan was born abt 1700 in Northern Ireland. He and his wife Elizabeth (Johnstone) sailed from Port O'Terry to the US sometime in 1730. Their port of entry was Wilmington NC. They settled in the grove settlement of New Hanover Co NC which later became Duplin Co. Thomas Denan acquired vast tracts of land along the Turkey River. He named his plantation Turkey Branch. He and his wife had 7 Children: Elizabeth b.?, James b. 23 Sep 1740, Owen b 1743, Jane b. 1744, Penelope b. 1745, Michael Johnstone b. 26 Aug 1746, Arabella b. 1748. Elizabeth married Thomas Torrans b. abt 1830 in Dobbs Co., NC. They had 8 children. Please let me know if this helps. I have someother information if this is your line.

Elizabeth - I think you and I and few of my cousins need to talk ASAP. I will email you personally also, but for the benefit of posting publically to help all of us poor adicted fools, I will answer here. My great grandfather was James Price Sharp. He was married to Maria Theresa Keenan. She died at 28 we suspect in childbirth delivering a female baby named Mae. James Price Sharp later married Anna Hahn Finnegan and they had three or four children, one of whom was my grandfather, Thomas Leroy Sharp. I have been piecing together the Sharp's, Hahn's, Raffo's from so little resources. I have picture's of the Elizabeth Keenan's tombstone or memorial marker more likely. I have pictures of Patrick Keenan's graves and 2 other Yankee soilders from New York. I have James Price Sharp, Mari Theresa and Anna Hahn stones has well ahs most of their children. They are buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.

Yes, the name is the same, but I wonder if another one of the Kenans had a daughter named Penelope too. Owen H. was in the same area of Georgia when they were there and Jacob named one of his boys Kenan. Kinnan was the way it was spelled in the tax digest. They were also neighbor in Sampson, NC.

Belle Kenan Robinson- Michigan

I am seeking info regarding Belle or Bella Kenan, born unknown date in NY, died april13, 1928 in Benton Harbor Michigan. She married a John E. Robinson, possibly in Benton Harbor Michigan. John E. Robinson may have been her second husband because in the 1900 Berrien County census, she, her husband and their son ARthur Robinson are listed as living in the household of Edward? McCrone or McCrane. She is listed as this persons mother. Her husband, John is listed as his step-father, and thier son Arthur listed as his half-brother. Bella Kenan's father was Owen Kenan, born in Ireland. Her mother is unknown and was also born in Ireland. If anyone has any info about her, it would be appreciated! Thanks and have a great day!<br>Gayle
