I'm looking for more information on Mary N. Kendle, b. 1823, New York. Her parents were Samuel and Hannah Kendle both born in England. I'm doing a mitochondrial DNA study and would like to find the birth name of Hannah Kemdle. There is a Samuel Kindle, b. abt. 1800 in the Ft. George, Guernsey, England Census in the army, with wife? Elizabeth, b. abt. 1808. Don't know if this is the guy I'm looking for.

Mary married George Tapping (Tappin) b. Eng., abt 1816 in Wisconsin. In 1860 they are living in Maziemanie, Dane Co., Wisconsin with William R. Tapping, 1845, NY and Eliza Tapping, 1848, Maziemanie, Dane, WI.

They may have had relatives in Iowa Co., WI as there are some Kendle's living there in 1840 and 1950. Their daughter married Henry D. Griffiths who was living in Iowa Co., WI in 1850.

Mary N. Kendle also married Thomas Neziah Williams in 1862 and after he died she married Henry D. Griffiths, Sr. her daughter's father-in-law.

I too am researching a Mary Susan Kendle from Hagerstown,Md. The ONLY information I have on her is She married a Bostwick and also a Taylor, first names unknown. Her living daughter has told me she was born in Hagerstown,MD and her mother from Ireland.

...an interesting guy: WILLIAM KENDLE: b.21 Aug 1752 Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England d.18 Nov 1834 Sevier Co TN. In England he was an apprenticed blacksmith, in 1777 he was pressed into the British Army & taken to America where he first fought against us but at Charleston in Oct 1780 he deserted & joined up with General Francis Marion The Swampfox & fought in several historic engagements in the Carolinas until discharged Dec 1782. He went immediately to live in Moore Co NC & 1810 US Census there shows he & wife aged 45+ w/ son 16-25 & dau 10-15, living next door to JACOB CAGLE & ANDREW AUMAN w/ several LUTHER families nearby on same census page. 1820 census shows just he & wife. Apparently she died aft1820 & he went to Sevier Co and married 1827 Elizabeth ___? the JP was Keith ___? Men of his neighborhood Mar 1833 Sevier Co who vouched for him in his pension papers were: ISAAC HILL, ISAAC RICHARDS, HENRY KRAGLE, WILLIAM KRAGLE, JESSE RODGERS; appeared before Justice RANDLE HILL. His widow Elizabeth Kendle is in the 1840 census Sevier Co living alone next door to WILLIAM NEWMAN & JAMES W ELLIS. My theory is that his son is WILLIAM KINDLE b.1786 NC m. BARBARA LUTHER b.1797 Randolph Co NC--they went to IN & then IA; other researchers' family trees show several marriages among KINDLE, AUMAN(ORMAN), CAGLE, LUTHER in both descendants & ancestors who came from PA to MD prior to NC. ANYONE HAVE MORE INFO ON THIS REVOLUTIONARY WAR PATRIOT #W-7978? Where did he live in Sevier Co? What was his wife's maiden name? Why isn't he in 1830 census of Sevier Co? I see some Kendle-Kindle in adjacent Haywood Co NC--are they related here? Thanks for any help you might be able to provide. Fred in Folsom CA

I am looking for a Robert Kendell who lived in Hermitage Bay, Newfoundland, Canada. He was born about 1780 married Mary ? Their first son John was born 1810. They had other children Mary, Hannah, Willian, Jane, Charity, Elizabeth, Susannah and Robert.

Do you have any information on Keenon descendents from John Keenon in Texas?

My ggrandfather, George S. Keenon (born 1864, died 1957) moved to Washington county, Oregon around 1902. His wife was Aveline A. Keenon, born 1857, died 1932. I have a pretty good handle on George and Aveline's children who came to Oregon, but know nothing about them or their parents.

I am searching for family of Jane Kendle who died in an Indian Raid Montague Co. Tx. about. On the census records she listed she was born in Canada and was listed as Indian. She was living with her sister Anna and brother-in-law John Keenan at the time of her death. Several of her children died in the raid as well as her sister Anna. Anna always listed that she was born in Pa. and I figure it was probably about 1820's and for Jane 1840's.

George! I found Elizabeth and William on the IGI(Mormon on line) with their date of marriage and a son Robert.Williams name was spelt Kendall and son Robert Kendal. This is the same problem I had finding my Kendle/Kendalls a few years ago. The person
taking the Census wrote the names down phonetically. I will look for your Coombs family in the IGI and if I see who Elizabeth belongs to I will let you know.Wished I had your E-mail address. Will see if I can find it on Canada 411 in Newfoundland. George

I would be very interested in finding info on the Coombs because Robert Kendle's son William married Elizabeth Coombs from Piccaire, Nfld. I do not have any knowledge of any the Kendles moving to the mainland.

George: I doubt the Kendells you are looking for migrated to Newfoundland from the states although they may have been Empire Loyalists and the timing is right. I do do suspect however that they came from England and I did a search of the IGI and found about 10 married to Mary's.One had a family with 4 of those mentioned in your first query. I did find William and Elizabeth Coombs and son
John in Newfoundland and marriage date of William if interested. Did Robert Sr. die in
Newfoundland?or did they move to the mainland?. George in NW Ontario

"Per Bill Meagher, 2301 Echodale Ave, Baltimore, MD 21214 (410) 254-7613, email: <bm0011@epf12.epfbalto.org>. He notes info in obituary of son George William Kendall says George was one of 13 children in this family.

George Kendall of Sioux Lookout, Canada sent me excerpts from "A History of Washington County, MD", 1906 (reprinted 1968 by Baltimore Publ Co), TJC Williams. On page 961, the John Kendall/Mattie M Horst family is discussed. Bill Meagher had 2 chn: Anna and George William; pg 961 adds 4 more: Susan, Abraham, Samuel, Edwin.

See also, Rin# 16850 Lula B Kendle, daughter of John D Kendle/Amelia Miller of Washington Co MD, who m.Wilson Ditto. Don McClain <dmcclain@insolwwb.net> has info on them."

Hi Sheila-Don't if we are "kin" or not. The more I dig, the more I find out that even though Kendle is a somewhat rare way to spell our name, compared to Kendall or Kendal, it doesn't mean we are related. And that even has to do with those that lived within miles of each other. Any family history? My family is from around the Greencastle, PA/ Hagerstown, Md area originally. My paternal grandfather left the area and moved to LA, after his wife died-my Dad was adopted by his Uncle. Twisted turn of events!! Nice talking with you. Drop me a line anytime.

Hi I have access to the 1871 census and have realised that a number of entries have been miscatalogued. I was looking for the surname Hemley and when I looked at the entry on the 1871 census it was in fact either Kendle or Hendle. Looking for origins of Margaret (nee Kendle). She is found in the records of the Hoffman Lutheran Church, Jenner Twp, Somerset Co., PA at christening of her daughter, Sophia Friedline, 15 Oct 1832. She and husband John Friedline later removed to Ohio and Indiana. Can anyone help me find her parentage?
