I've also heard the story she might be native american. but no proof. There are some problems with your Grandmothers's version. The Trail of Tears march of the Cherokee from GA to OK occurred in 1837-38, well after Hance died in 1817.

Kennemer/Kennemur Family Tree IE Rachel Riley

Rachel Riley, married to Hance Kennemur, is a distant grandmother of mine. I am interested to know what others have come up with, if any. I have searched but noone has come up with some info that I have. My grandmother said that she was Apache Indian and that Hance met her on the Trail of Tears. The reason there is no other information on her is because it isn't her 'real' name, her indian name. It was a name given to her when she married Hance because she was kicked out of the tribe. Could someone please tell me if they have found the same info or be able to refute? I am really anxious about finding out more about this part of my heritage.

Kennamer Family

In 1924 a hard bound book, THE KENNAMER FAMILY, was written by John Robert Kennamer and Lorrin Garfield Kennamer. In 1973 a second edition was released by Woody A. and Nelda C. (Kennamer) Kelley. This edition has a detailed index to aid in researching. The 1924 edition of this book is available on the Kennamer web site at http://www.kennamer.com/ for $70.00 in hard bound but it doesnot have the index. I have a hard bound copy of the second edition, printed in 1973 with the valuable index. If you are interested in this book, please contact me.

Debbie
ccmokla@aol.com

Re: Grace Frances Kennemur Carroll

Hi Richard, It was so nice to hear from you. Now I am going to add more confusion for you....giggles.....but it has nothing to do with Grace Kennemur......your last name being Wood and from Arkansas I was wondering if you know of a Lois Wood Chaney or a Mrs Gill, or a Julius Wood? Lois Chaney is my Great Grandma and died about 1968 or so in Little Rock, please let me know...
Now Grace did have a daughter but I think she passed althoough I do not know her name. there is a cemetery plot suppose to be for Carrolls and supposedly her daughter is in one of them but this is just heresay. Your Saxton, I am assuming is Sikeston, Mo......you know that southern drawl...giggles........
I have to locate where my papers are and will get back to you. Richard try and record your family history!
Donna
