I am interested in information about Mary Miller Kenton (wife of Mark Kenton). I am a descendant of Mark and Mary, through their son, William, who married May Cleland. While I have a great deal of information on the Kentons and Clelands, I have very little on the Millers. Several sources indicate that Mary was of Scotch-Irish descent, but I am not sure if that is true or not. Anything you can share about Mary's family (the Millers) would be most appreciated.

Jane Jones (jaj523@juno.com)

I too am a descendant of Mark and Mary Miller Kenton through their son, William (who married Mary Cleland). My ancestor was Elizabeth Kenton who married Ezekiel Arrowsmith. I have a great deal of information on William's family if you would like to share. My e-mail address is jaj523@juno.com.

P.S. I also have a great deal of information on the Arrowsmith family.

I've followed your postings with interest. We seem to be researching the same Skirvin family. My line is: John, Sr., Absolam, Joel, Zachariah T. (my ggrandfather), Woodford Cee, Ernest Wendell. I'm particularly interested in the book you referenced, "The Frontiersman". Did you find information pertinent to the John, Sr. line? I would love to read it myself; just for the history, if nothing else. I'm wondering if there was ever a reference to a brother named Absolam to John, Sr. I know about the son but think there may have been a brother who was with John, Sr. as an early settler of the Dry Ridge, KY area.

Thanks for any info!

Kaye Skirvin Elliott

Information needed on, "Kenton" signed, oil on canvas

Hello,

I own a very large oil painting on canvas here in New York City. It is 50 inches high by 40 inches wide. The subject matter: two sailboats, numbered sails, possibly racing sailboats, in a Stormy Sea. On one sail boat, from the body position of the people, you can tell the people on the boat are strong, capable, & confident. Beautifully done.

Does anyone know anything about the artist/painter named Kenton? The painting is not new but I do not really know the age other then to guess by the condition of the painting that maybe it is 30 years old, possibly older. I am searching for information on "Kenton" the artist of the signed oil painting on canvas. It is not dated. You can view the oil painting at: http://www.weecompany.com/ant_col/cols_mu/col_oil_pntgs/kent...

Please contact me via fax: 718-429-3689 or via e-mail: ddag1822@verizon.net if you have any information on the artist. This would be highly appreciated. Sincerely,
Ruth - June 21, 2005
According to the book written by Leola Wright Murphy,in 1996.she writes that according to tradition triplets were born to a family by the name of Kenton in Ireland on March l, 1701. Probable fathers name was John Kenton. the only names she knows of the triplets are Thomas and Mark Kenton Thomas living in Philadelphia County, Mark eventually settled in Va.
Thats about all we currently know about the Kenton background. No information on Marks' wife, Miller has been located (at lease by me.) Sorry.
Barbara

Mark Kenton and Thomas Kinton (Kenton), brothers, b.1701 (?), emmigrated from Ireland ABT 1727. Thomas Kinton is found living in Oxford Twp., Philadelphia Co., PA, perhaps with relatives ABT 1730, and then near Bermudian Creek in Lancaster (later became York), then in Bedford. Mark Kenton worked for Mercer in VA. I'm not aware as to whether their father, John Kinton (Kenton) emmigrated with the brothers or whether he had a Will.

Mark Kenton and Mary Kenton are shown as members of Overwharton Parish at the time their daughter was born -- Mark Kenton was a witness to the 1748 Will of John Hurst of Stafford County, Virginia. I am a descendant of Thomas Kinton (Kenton), brother of Mark Kenton. They may have met and married in the Stafford County area, which is near Fredericksburg, VA. Later they lived near Middleburg, VA. There is a Simon Kenton marker on Rt. 15, N of Manassas.

Ayres Publishing reprinted it several years ago at the behest of the Kenton association. You can contact them to see if they have any left. Here the page from the Kenton web site which lists all Kenton books:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~daisy/kmail.htm

Diane Hettrick
