I've found this website really useful http://www.rootsireland.ie/ifhf/map.php
Unfortunately not free, but well worth your money if you find the person you want. I find that I have to look at relatives that were living with that person at the same time and then see if it tallies up. There's also Family Search - free and full of useful stuff! Hope this helps. Good luck!

Keogh/Kelly Mountbellew/Ahascragh

I am hoping somebody out ther can help me. My grandmother was Kathleen Keogh bn 1899 in Mountbellew. She was the daughter of James Joseph Keogh Bn 1862 and Mary Ann Kelly 1860 - 1903. Kathleen had 4 sisters Bedelia, Mary Ann, Margaret and Fannie and 3 brothers Francis, Patrick and James. I believe their mother Mary Ann Kelly was the sister of Colonel Thomas Kelly. I think James Joseph Keogh was the son of Francis Keogh 1828-1892 and Bedelia McGauran 1833-1866. I have very little information on my Keogh roots and was hoping somebody out ther might be able to help.

Can someone tell me where I can write to get records from the Rochfordbridge area of Westmeath Ireland? And how do I know if siblings are related to MY relatives when there are more than (1) person in that town with the same first + last name. I find it very confusing at times! Thanks for any help!
The Keoghs of Carrick on Suir, Co. Tipperary

I am trying to find out where my great grandfather's brother and sister's went ( we have no knowledge of what happened them). They were Catherine Keogh baptised 25th. March 1840, Brigid Keogh baptised 2nd. January 1842, Ann Keogh baptised 11th. September 1843, John Keogh baptised 6th. June 1845 and my great crandfather Michael Keogh baptised 3rd. November 1847. Their parents were James Keogh and Mary Manning and they lived at 8 Ballylynch\Pill road, Carrick on Suir, Co.Tipperary. As it stands myself and my brothers are the only known descendents of all these people
I am hoping that we have relatives out there somewhere. If you have any information you can reply to this post or e-mail me direct at info@kayletec.com

Best Wishes,

Michael Kelly.
Hallo shirley,
I have only today received notification of your message.
I do not know whether i have any bartholomew keogh in my tree.
I have Thomas Keogh son of Thomas Keogh who wed Mary Ann Bennett in Lusmagh Offaly in about 1854 and they had nine children all born and baptised in Lusmagh(which is up a bit from Birr on the Tipperary border)
They were farmers. That is really all I know. Thomas Keogh was born 1831 so his father was born about 1800-1808 I would think.
If there had been a Bartholomew in my family one of the children would have had that name but there are none not even as a middle name.
Did your Keoghs come from Tipperary?
Later mine were in Birr.

Re: Thady "Timothy" Keogh/Kehoe and Bridget Kenniff/Conniff, of Loughill, Cashel Parish, Longford Ireland

Investigating cemetery records for Holy Cross cemetery in Brooklyn NY. This plot (Section St Peter Row K Plot 3) is the resting place for quite a few family members:

- "Timothy Kehoe", listed in cemetery records as having died in 1885 at age 8. There are TWO Timothy Keoghs in the family: the patriarch was Timothy Keogh, b. about 1812 d. 1868 (ref. Death Certificate # 2371, 1868, Kings County). I suspect that he is in this plot since this death certificate indicates that Mr. Kehoe (d. 1868) was buried in Flatbush, where Holy Cross is located, also, the death certificate has this same spelling of the name ("Timothy Kehoe"). However, there was also a grandson named Timothy Keogh who died at age 8: possibly the two records have gotten jumbled together?

- Timothy's wife, Bridget Kenniff Keogh (1825-1891) is present. There are US census records for Timothy and Bridget with children John, Catherine and William: possibly there were older daughters [Margaret Mary (1841), Brigid (1844) and Mary (1846)] who remained in Ireland?

- Timothy and Bridget's son John Keogh (1856-1938), John's wife Catherine Mcginnis (1825-1891), and infant John Keogh (1886 - 1886) are here as well. John and Catherine had other children

Rose Keogh (1885 – ?) m. J. Ryan
Agnes R Keogh (1887 –?), m. McCaffery
Charles Joseph Keogh (1889 – 1956) m. J. Sullivan
Mary T. Keogh (1889 – ?)
Catherine M. Keogh (1891 – 1965), m. B. Rinklin
William Anthony Keogh (1894 – 1967), m. E. Cade

- Timothy and Bridget's other son William Keogh (1849 - 1889), William's son Timothy Keogh (1877-1885) and daughter Winifred (1884 – 1897) are also in this plot. Two other daughters, Mary b. 1879 and Annie b. 1882, may have lived in Brooklyn's St Joseph Female Orphanage following William's death.

- "Ann Kebride" (1875?-1876), whom I suspect was Ann Kilbride, a daughter of Timothy and Bridget's daughter Catherine Keogh Kilbride (1851-1905)

- Patrick Gillen (1870?- 1871). The cemetery records list the owner of the plot as Daniel Gillen, so I suspect that this infant was the child of Mr. Gillen and his wife, one of the Keogh daughters(?)

There is no headstone on this plot.

Re: Myles Keogh

I was told by my father that we are distant cousins of Myles Keogh. My grandfather came from Newfoundland (Ferryland) Canada. I do not know of a Valentine & Alice Keogh but do know that 3 young men of the name Kehoe from the Wexford area came to Newfie before 1815. Fishermen, of course. They each settled in different areas of Newfoundland. They were related to each other. It's said that two were brothers and one a cousin. So, perhaps Valentine is descended from one of them. Sylvester is my ggg grandfather. I have been to both Newfie & Ireland ( including Leighlinbridge and Wexford) but have not had success in learning who Sylvester's father was in Ireland. I suspect that Sylvester's grandfather's brother is my line that leads to Myles Keogh. We have also visited the site of Little big horn. very nice. any help on Sylvester's line would be appreciated.

Kia ora Roimata

Just happened upon your posts as I start writing Chapter 3 of family history, which is about my great grandmother Margaret Keogh, daughter of John Keogh and Mary Noonan. Another cousin with a strong interest in genealogy has managed only to find as much as you have -

John Patrick Keogh born about 1830 in Killanoe, County Clare, died on 27 December 1915 in Waipipi.
He married Mary Noonan, who was born on 4 March 1841 in Knockbrack, Cork, on 6 February 1860 at St Mary's Catholic Church, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. She died on 29 October 1907.
Their children were:
1. James Keogh, born Cape Town 1860, and died there.
2. Mary Keogh, born CapeTown 1862, died 7 November 1950
3. Thomas Keogh, born 1867 Waipipi, died 29 August 1931
4. Margaret Keogh, born 1869 Waipipi, died 18 September 1948, Warea
5. Johanna Keogh, born 1872 Waipipi, died 28 August 1948, Waipipi
6. John Patrick Keogh, born 1874 Waipipi, died13 July 1938
7. Timothy Keogh, born 1876 Waipipi, died 9 August 1944
8. Martin Keogh, born 28 March 1878 Waipipi, died 1 May 1946 Auckland
9. James Keogh, born 1880 Waipipi, died 3 October 1954 Okato
10. Michael Keogh, born 1882 Waipipi, died 11 January 1969 Waipipi
11. Daniel Keogh, born 1886 Waipipi, died 8 June 1947

Which was your family? I am assuming it was one of the Keogh boys who went flax-milling up north with Margaret's husband, Samuel Jones. He died 6 weeks before their seventh child was born, and Margaret raised the children alone and successfully farmed with the help of her brother James.

Seems that the tracing back of Irish family is incredibly fraught, so I think I shall give up and just keep on writing the history. Happy to share, once done. It's for a family reunion of Margaret's family in Warea Taranaki at the end of January 2013.

Good luck with your search!

Nāku noa
Judi
Alex, I am distantly related to you through the McCornock line. I have a copy of an article entitle "Prince Edward Boy Suceeds in the West" that was published in a newspaper years ago and was kept for years by Iona Thompson Wager. She lent it to Robert Wendell Camm and he copied it in his book on the Lawson and Magee families in Ontario. It did have a few lines about Hannah it says " His old time bethrothed Miss Hannah Keogh of Belleville, Ontario came west and married him in January 1867." I don't know if this helps you at all or not.

Maori Keogh Clan in NZ

Kia Ora,

I am a Keogh from the Waikato in NZ living in Hong Kong. I am a descendant of John Keogh and Mary Noonan. Here is an excerpt of the information that I have.

John Keogh was born in Kilnoe (today known as Bodyke Parish) in County Clare near Limerick city about 1830. According to John’s death certificate his father was James Keogh and his mother’s maiden surname was Martin.

I visited Bodyke Parish in 2004 and didn't have any luck tracking down the Keogh family but saw the Noonan family in the graveyard there. It makes me wonder if our information is correct. Many people I have met since who are from Clare have said that Keogh isn't a Clare name.

I will be visiting Ireland again in August this year (2012) so would love to find some leads and trace back my heritage. I guess too, it would be useful to find the connections with the Keogh clan back in NZ.

Thanks, Roimata
