Probably Carrie Kerschner, not Kerchner. Also comments and help page on the two different German family names.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Kerchner Kirchner Karchner
Initial information in private communications with Lisa about her ancestor Carrie, indicates that Carrie's maiden name was Carrie L. Kerschner, per Carrie's marriage record. Thus Carrie is probably not a Kerchner. The Kerchner/Kirchner surname, the German surname spelled without the S, and the Kerschner/Kershner/Kirschner surname spelled with the S, are two completely different German surnames. Due to the same Soundex Code in English, and frequent misspellings in public historical records, it causes much confusion in sorting out these two different family names for researchers who are not aware that there are two different German family root names. See the below website link for help with the German surname spelled with an S, i.e., Kershner, Kerschner, and Kirschner.
