I have found the name Furajtar and Georgius Kerekes (j?) in the Presov RC church records and wondered if there is a connection to Maria Furajtar, born about 1792, married to Georgius Olsavsky in 1826, and your family. Tried to send an e-mail unsucessfully today 10/16/2009.
christine1931@comcast.net

It is possible there may be a connection. My grandmother, Maria Kerekes, also came about the same time from Hungary. She is deceased: so is my Dad and most of her children. Please email me and we will get in contact.

You may be related. My great-grandfather was Karoly Kerekes, on my grandmother's side. Please send more information: I am compiling a family history, and would like to include contact information, for those who allow it, plus pictures, family stories or histories and other pertinent information. I was told that my Grandmother, Maria Kerekes, who would have been his daughter, may have left behind a child. I am trying to locate this child and pertinent information about its gender, birth/death dates, marriage, and children, or other contact information, if available. Any information would help. Thank you very much.

Kerekes coat of arms???

Can anyone help me find the Kerekes coat of arms? I've found there are different websites that want to sell me our coat of arms but I'd like to verify its the right one before paying someone for it. I've also noticed that the web sites differ in their coat of arms which also makes me question if I'm looking at a legitimate coat of arms. Can anyone give me some direction here?? Marty.

Maybe you should come here in Romania, in Zselyk to find he answer...
The village is unique in the current Bistrita-Nasaud county, whereas the majority of residents belongs to Evangelical (Lutheran) church.
In the middle of 19 century, the population of Zselyk was almost 800, but from 1990 population decline to 137 persons. At that time the 55 men and the 82 women average age was 65 years.
In January 2007, from 151 house 81 was empty (or already are in italics). The young generation is between 50-60 years old persons from Bistrita, a group of people who move out here after retirement (in the grandparents houses).

In the village since 1981 does not work or school, or kindergarten, young people can not remain here.

Since 2002, usually around the date of August 20 as scheduled, the Foundation ProZselyk organizate the Village Days. In 2009 this was organizated at august 15..

A lot of people come at around this date in the village from all over the world.. Maybe you should come here in Romania, in Zselyk to find he answer untill the elders are still alive...

I know of a Karoly and Ava Kerekes that live in Loxahatchee Florida. They were born in Poland and lived in New Jersey in the Clifton area until the mid 1980s. They then moved to Florida. They are probably in their 80s though and their son is about 57 and is an only child.

When I was in High School I did a little family tree and found out that my great grandfather Stephen Kerekes (spelling) came in on a boat to Ellis Island. I am very interested in my family history.

They relocated to New Brunswick, NJ and he passed away in 1977.

He came from a large family but lost contact with them.
Re: Gabriel Tarnoky Kerekes/NY

I knew Gabriel T. ("Gabby") Kerekes in the late 1960s in New York. He was then a well-known and respected trainer of securities brokers at several different Wall Street brokerage houses, such as Bache & Co.

He helped get me a job with the American Banker and bond Buyer newpapers, and we used to get together for lunch every couple of weeks or so.

He was a close friend of my father's, Lawrence Lesser, and for a time during the Second World War, they worked together in the Treasury Department on economic warfare against the Axis (the really evil one!).

Gabby told me that after working with my father in Washington, he was a secret agent working behind German lines to disrupt the German and Italian economies in a number of different ways, and he told me a whole bunch of remarkable stories.

I believe Gabby was married more than once, and I remember that a number of times when we were together in his office he would call an ex-wife (I do not know if it was always the same ex-wife) so she and I could talk. I was always embarrassed, because I had no memory of ever having met that wife, or any other, while she obviously knew me.

Of course it is possible that there were two Gabriel T. Kerekeses, but I kind of doubt it. If you want to know more, please let me know.

My mother-in-law is Barbara Jean Kerekes. She married David Sanford Heller in New Jersey. My husband was born in New Brunswick. Her fathers name was Ernest Kerekes and mother was Clothilda "Hilda" Guerand. There may be a connection just not sure. The parents divorced when Barbara was 5 yrs. old. He married again, but not sure of other siblings. Apparently the Kerekes's were gypsies.

Carol,

I know nothing about Carl and his family. I don't remember what his brothers names were. But Carl did graduate from Avon Lake High School in 1952. He was one of my classmates. I wish I could help you, but I don't know as much as you do. Possibly, by going into the ClassMates Forum, you can visit the Avon Lake High School Forum, and ask on there if anybody knows anything about him and his family. Good luck. Please let me know what, if anything, you find out.

Pat

Carol,

Thanks for answering my message. Do you know anything about Carl? Where he lived, how he died? His class lost contact with him many years ago. When the Avon Lake High School Alumni Directory was printed in 1996, his whereabouts were not known. They knew noone to contact in order to bring the directory up to date about him.

Do you know the date of his death and where? When they send a questionnaire around again, possibly somebody can tell the people who are compiling the update what is known about him.

Pat

Kerekes like Smith is very well known in Hungary and therefore can be difficult to trace. Please help me if you recognize any of these names to find out more about my family. Anton Kerekes, born in Budapest in 1876 married Clara Orris. They were the parents of John Kerekes, born 11-23-1908 in Plainfield N.J. John married Kathlene Doniere,(Ianaiere), born in 1912 to Joseph Doniere and Ursala Yannacone, also in Plainfield N.J. John and Kathlene moved to Monroe,Michigan ( which is the state line at Toledo, Ohio), where they raised their children John, Mary, Anthony, James, Joseph, Kathy, and Barbara. Family members whose names I would sure like to know more about include Doniere, Yannacone, Orris, Carovillano, Kerekes, D'Alassandro, Izzi or Izzo. The Italians in this line came from Campobasso, Torrella Del Sannino , Italy. Thanks

Dr. Joseph and Margaret (Singer) Kerekes of Chicago, IL

Joseph and Margaret KEREKES were found on the 1930 census of Chicago, Cook Co., IL, with a daughter Clara, age 3 1/2 yrs. He was a physician/surgeon. Joseph was b. 1889 in Budapest Hungary, came to the USA in 1922. He married Margaret SINGER in 1925 (she was b. 1904 in Gyor Hungary and came to the USA in 1923 with her parents David and Helen SINGER). Joseph and Margaret were divorced in 1938. Both remarried. Dr. KEREKES is believed to have moved to the Thousand Oaks area in Ventura Co. in CA, and to have died there in about 1957. His granddaughter remembers calling his wife Nana. I don't know if there were more children or not. Margaret married Dr. George GOMORI and they moved to CA in the mid 1950's. Any information on any of these people or their descendants will be appreciated. I am compiling a Family History for Clara's grandchildren. I would like to correspond with any relatives. My e-mail address is JoeAnneGeneo@hotmail.com. Thanks.

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Kerekes. I know she married Stephen D'Luhy and they had 10 children. I think she came to US after her husband but with 4 of the children. If anybody has a connection I would really like to hear from you.

Lisa
Hi I am related to the Kerekes that you are looking for. My Maiden name was Doniere. My grandfather was the brother to the Sister who married the Kerekes from Toledo.

I havent been on Ancestry in a while, but, today I had learned that Richard Owen, who is the husband of Mary (kerekes) own passed away back in september, so I was looking up his obituary to send to family. I found it, and then decided to go into the Kerekes family for research back to my own family again.

Hope to hear from you. By the way, my email address is kloger8@sbcglobal.net
