Hi Michael,

I am the grandson of John and Mary Kerin from Melbourne. I have been trying to find out more about my grandfather since I have been in Ireland ( 5 years now). I was wondering if you had found out any more about your father and how he relates to our family as it may help out on finding more information as to our history, as I am at a bit of dead end.
My father (John, known as Sean)remembers calling your father 'uncle', but seems to think he was more than likely cousins or even just grew up together. I understand that it was difficult for my grandfather to talk about his early years and some information I have found would suggest this to be the case.
Anything you have about their early connection would help.

My Grandparents names are Frances Michael Kerin & Valerie COnstance Kerin (both dec.)I am interested in learning about any other family particularly on my Grandfathers side. I have some very old photos and cards from his days in the war that may be helpful to other family. Grandpa was born on the 14/06/14 and passed away on 04/12/2002. He had a daughter Patsy, she passed away when she was very young. Does this sound familiar to you?

Bridget Kerin may have beeen a sister to my relative John Kerin from the same village - he was born about 1824. His parents were Patrick kerin & Margaret Curran. he died in NSW (AUS) in 1903.

My grandmother was Marcella Fitzgerald daughter of Marcella Kerin. Marcella Kerin"s parents were Cornelius Kerin and Honor Quinn. I understand that Marcella Kerin was born 1844. Are you connected to this family? and do you have any records of them?

Humphrey's Parents were Cornelius Kearin and Johanna Horan. I've been to Scartaglin. If you go to the old graveyard by the church, all of us are buried there. Lyons Pub is there. The Lyons family is connected to the Kerins somehow. I met them there. I have a pretty good geneology of the family. Humphrewy Jr. was my grandfather,Humphrey Sr. my great grandfather. There's a Kearin reunion every five years. Humphrey and Brother Michael immigrated to US in 1849. I saw a copy of the immigration document. One brother stayed in Chicago area, other to Minnesota and the Northwest. I'm of the Chicago clan. Anybody e mail me or call at 310 714 8388 (Los ANgeles)

This Humphrey Kearin came to New Zealand from Kerry in Ireland. He had no connection with Ohio to my knowledge.

My grandfather, Louis Varscay, came to u.s. 1906 from "Slovakland" (that's the way it is written on the 1920 census) . Do you think your grandfather, Joseph was related? I am trying to find info re. my grandfather -- the city he was from as well as relatives.

Maureen - I have a photo my grandmother, Bessie Smith Kerin gave me before she died, of my great great great grandfather John Kerin born in County Clare Ireland. The photo is a group family photo and my grandmother has written below it the names of the family members in the photo "John Kerin (my grandfather) and cousins bill kerin and bill collins, winifred kerin, Margaret mary collins, eileen collins, alyce kerin (my grandfathers sister) and dan collins, Margaret (Kerin) collins, anita collins, John Kerin (Jack (my own grandfather) and Alyce's grandfather) John Kerin born in County Clare Ireland".

In an adjoining photo, the caption is "these are copies Noel LaPointe had made up after her mother died, and under the photo, ""Elizabeth Carlson wife of Dennis A Kerin, parents of John and K. Alyce Kerin"

There may be some relation, but the John Kerin and Dennis Kerin, originally from CoClare died well before 1980. But, I would be interested in any Kerin history you might have knowledge of.

Just seen your message. My father was from C/Clare - John Kerin who married a German Lady - Johanna Hapka- had two sons - Peter and Michael (myself). Would love to hear from you as my father never took us to Ireland. John Died boxing day 1980 age 57. Johanna died January 1999 age 79. Would like to hear about the family as I have no history. I know John and Mary Kerin are in Australia, but little else. Awaiting your letter. I am 44 years old, with one son - Colin who is 24 - Both of us are Manchester City Fans - Peter is 46 he has 4 children and one grandchild.
Will give you any information I have.

from Knockrour, Scartaglen, Castleisland, Co Kerry.

I have Humphrey and Cornelius Kerin in this family. Humphrey “Free” – Nov 1, 1851, Michael – May 1853, Joanna – Feb 1855, Maurice “Patrick” – April 21, 1862, Cornelius – Oct. 21, 1864, Thomas, Tim, John,
Bridget, Daniel, Martin and William. Most of them came to the US.

I have extractecd a lising of Kerin Kerry Marriages (1826-1883)
also an extract of Kerin Kerry Births/christenings Castleisland

amazingly, i have found traces of this very unusual name on some remote greek island called "kerisikinos", virtually unknown even to many greeks.
there, on an even more remote beach called "agios kerogeorgios" (i assume the prefix kero- has to do with our case, given that agios georgios means "Saint george" in greek) used to live a shepherd, called "kerinidis". he hired the nearby fields and produced milk and cheese. the ending -idis (=son of) was , according to villagers i have spoken to, added to his original one, Kerin, after his father mysteriously appeared some 80 years ago and settled to live, not always peacefully, with the people of this island (was this the reason he chose this remote coast to live?)

the appearance of the person in question (rather tall, bright and "beautiful" blue eyes) suggest a slavic or nordic origin. a fact easy to recognise prima vista, the minute one steps on this island.
although i have not met myself the person in question (he disappeared some years ago as mysteriously as his traces appeared on the same island), some people told me that a girl with the same name somehow came looking for him, propably on 1997, but kept no contacts and -propably- lives in Slovenia (some say Switzerland).
i go there often myself and will try to learn more, although there seems to be some unwillingness of people to talk, in general, about this or any other story that concerns this person.

since you are slowakian, sorry, slovenian, i thought this informaton might interest you.

I am looking for any information about the surname Kerin - wher does it come from; has it any meaning; etc.
In the region of Krško (Slovenia (Ex-YU)-not to be mixed up with Slowakia!!!)is the most frequent familiy name Kerin. It is also in a way a kind of an "unusal" name, because the word itself has no slavic roots or meaning, neither in german. I tried several times to figure out where it comes from, but unfortunately without succes. I found some "Kerin" in Australia, Canada and the USA, but the track leads to Ireland.

I am looking for relatives of my gggrandfather, John Kerin who was born in County Clare, Ireland. He was the son of John (Sr.) and Katherine Kennedy and the brother of Dennis Kerin. Dennis and John's father died at age 34 and Katherine remarried a Keough or Keogh and had more children. John and Dennis came to theUSA and married sisters. My gggrandfather, John married Ann Corbett, Dennis married Mary Corbett. If there is anybody in Clare that recognizes these names, I would appreciate any other information that you can provide.

I have found out that, in addition to siblings Cornelius and Honena, my Jeremiah also had another brother Patrick (who had a son Johnny) and another sister Kate. I am looking for an Austin Kerin that was born in the 1800's. I have no idea of the time frame. He married in the early 1900's to Anna Melissa Dischner, and they had one child, Margery Janet Kerin. They later divorced we think. Margery Janet Kerin is my mother and she has no information about her fathers side of the family other than his name and that he was in the navy and might have spent some time in prison for embezzlement. At least these were things told to her by her grandmother on her mothers side

Perhaps my Jeremiah Kerin is a brother/cousin/uncle/etc. of your Timothy. Jeremiah was born 1842 in Liscannor, Co. Clare. His parents were Cornelius Kerin and Margaret Quinn. He had at least 2 siblings - a brother Cornelius and sister Honena/Honora. Jeremiah came to the US about 1860 and married Elizabeth McCabe in 1867 in Cleveland, OH and moved to Springfield, IL in 1878. Honena died in 1894, possibly still in Ireland.

Great-grandfather Humphrey Kerin(s) married Mary Sarsfield Greenwood, a youn widow, in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1856.
Age on marriage license was 21. Probably born in County Kerry between 1834 - 1835. Worked in glass industry in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio. Last census has him in 1900. Grandfather was John Kerins born in Ohio in 1859

Am interested in the Genalogy data from Scartaglin and Castleisland.

Thank you for the reply, I did write to a Kerin Contact in Utah about six months ago. The letter was returned unopened. Humphrey was the son of Johanna Hickey of Castleisland, whose exact family I have not yet identified but we have interests generally in the descendants of John, James and Laurence Hickey of Knocknagoshal near Castleisland. I am certainly interested in anything about Kerins from Scartaglin.

Hi William, I am a descendant of the Kerin Family that was from Toledo,Ohio. My lineage goes like this: My mother's maiden name was Thayer. Her mother was Marie C. Thank you-Thank you-Thank you for locating John Kerin Honor Barry. For 12 years I've been looking for them (Griffith's valuation, writing to Irish churches, visiting Irish cemeteries etc. )
John Honor appear to be my long lost ggrandparents. Could you please provide me with where, or by what document, you found the baptismal records of John Honor's children. I would like to dig deeper into their lives.

Austin would be my mother's father and we have very little information on him other than a name and the possibility that his family came from Ohio and that his father had something to do with glass. my maiden name was Kerin. In 1962 in Liverpool there was only to my knowledge my mother Winifred age 53, father Thomas Joseph, born Listowel Co Kerry age,59, and myself aged17. We do not know of any other kerins at that time.

Married Johanna O'leary 1880 and settled in Brooklyn. Had 4 daughters that survived and several boys that did not. Daughters names are Hanna (Anna),Catherin (Kathllen), Nora, and Agness (Debie). Catherin married Harold Priest and Agness Married Martin O'Shaughessy
