At the family residence at Maysville Hickory Grove township, Tuesday, Jan. 4, occurred the death of Mrs. Margaret Kerker at the advanced age of 75 years 11 months and 28 days. The cause of death was pneumonia and the infirmaties of her advanced age. Deceased was born in Bavaria, Germany, Jan. 9, 1822, and came to America with her parents in 1835, locating in Zanesville, Ohio. She was married to John Kerker Jan. 25, 1845.
They removed to Iowa, settling at Davenport, Oct. 18, 1853, and removed to Hickory Grove township in this county three years later, in 1856, where she has continued to reside ever since. Her husband died July 6, 1887, the last member of his immediate family, and with her death now, departs the last member of her immediate family of that generation.
Deceased is survived by the following children: John E. Kerker, Paton, Ia; Mrs. John Wertmann of Sheridan township; Mrs. John Soutter, Jr., of Paton, Ia; Joseph H. Kerker of Des Moines, William H. Kerker of this city; Mrs. James Soutter of Paton, Ia; and Mrs. Frank Frey of Paton, Ia. She was the aunt of H.W. Kerker and G.W. Kerker, Mrs. G. A. Koester and Mrs. Anthony Goerts of this city.
The funeral will be held Thursday morning with services at St. Joseph's at 11 o'clock. Interment will be at St. Marguerite's cemetery.
