The way I understand it, your great-grandmother was Mary Louise Kerkhoff (1882-1916), and she was a sister to my grandfather Bernard Kerkhoff (1884-1971). Their parents were Frank Wilhelm Kerkhoff and Josephine Stallmann. One of my grandfather's younger brothers was Alphonse Kerkhoff from the Templeton, Iowa area. There are still Kerkhoff's that live in that area around Templeton and Manning. I just found your e-mail and it is several years old so I hope this information is helpful to you. Marilyn Kerkhoff Vogl (father-Harold, grandfather-Bernard, great-grandfather-Frank W. Kerkhoff. I wonder if anyone has any information on Frank W. Kerkhoff's parents.
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond (several years!). I guess we really are distant cousins! My great grandfather, Herman, was a brother to the Frank who lived and died in Templeton, IA. Herman died young, when my grandmother was only 12 or 13. A helpful website for me is a Gerken website. http://freepages.genealogy.com/~tdlarson/ It is awesome. It has some photos of my mom's family if you look hard. T. Larson is a distant cousin of mine, both of my grandparents were related to the Gerkens (but not to each other.) I live in Coralville, IA, grew up in Chicago.

I have an original nursing school graduation photo fo "Esther L. Fetter", along with her "business card", which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in Chicago by the Koehne Studio, in possibly about 1925-1930. I found a marriage of an Esther L. Fetter in McCook Co., SD to B. J. Kerkhoff in Nov 1931, and I suspect this is the same lady. Please email me at margerice@prodigy.net if this is your family.

My name is Mary Pietig, I am the daughter of Wayne Pietig who was the son of Rose Kerkoff and William Pietig. I know somehow I am related to all of these people on this site, but I am still trying to figure it all out. I live in the Pacific Northwest and have a lot of information from a scrapbook that I got from my Grandmother, Rose Kerkoff Pietig. Trying to figure out who the man was that wrote the article about my Grandparents.

Pietig-Kerkhoff Wedding 1912, Carroll County Iowa

I translated the following wedding announcement from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa between about 1874 and 1918. It was originally published on Friday, 31 January 1912. I have kept the name and place spellings as they were in the article. I have added some explanatory notes of my own at the end. It read as follows:

Pietig-Kerkhoff

On Wednesday morning, Mr. Wilh. Pietig, son of the widow W. Pietig residing near Carroll, was married to Miss Rose Cerkhoff, daughter of local residents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kerkhoff, in Heart of Jesus Church by Father Tonessen. The witnesses were Heinrich Kerkhoff and Miss Veronica Pietig. The bride wore a white silk dress. After the religious ceremony, the young people were given a reception in the home of the bride’s parents where many useful gifts were presented. Both are respected and well regarded young people. The young couple will move to the Pietig homestead southeast of Carroll. Best wishes to the union.

Notes: The article spells Kerkhoff with a “C” instead of a “K” in one place, but I am reasonably sure the correct spelling is with a “K.” Also, the article does not say whether the marriage was in Carroll. It lists the name of the church in German as “Herz Jesu” which means Heart of Jesus. I am not sure which church this refers to. The only one I know with a similar name is “Sacred Heart of Jesus” in Templeton, but it may refer
Hi, we are related. My dad was Harold Kerkhoff, son of Bernard (Ben) married to Theresia (Wimmer). Ben was the son of Frank Wilhelm Kerkhoff (1851-1916) andJosephine Stallman (1855-1925), both dying in Templeton, Iowa. My Grandfather Ben's sister was Mary maried to Frank Feilmeyer, with children Edward, Alex, Frank, Stephen and Rudolph. Is that right? I am searching for my Grandfather Ben's father Frank Wilhelm's parents. I imagine they would be from Germany, or Holland (Dutch) I don't know for sure. Also wondering who Frank's brothers and sisters would have been.
I am Marilyn Rose (Kerkhoff) Vogl from Morgan, MN. Many Vogl and Kerkhoff relatives in Iowa.

Your great grandfather Herman was a brother to my gg grandfather Bernard, I think. Bernard settled in Oklahoma in approx 1903, the farm he homesteaded is still in the family. His son John was my g grandfather. He had three daughters, no the name here in Oklahoma ended with him. Any information you have on when Bernard and Herman came to the US would be helpful. I do know that they came from Germany.
Thanks

Kerkhoff from England to USA

Last November I posted a reply to some messages from Lynn McCurdy Robinson about her Kerkhoff ancestors. I would very much like to get in touch with her as we are related (5th cousins once removed!) and I have details of our Kerkhoff ancestors in England going back to the middle of the 18th century. Lynn's e-mail doesn't work - if anyone else is in touch with her could you please pass this message on to her or let me have an up-to-date e-mail address? I would love to be able to go back further and trace my Kerkhoff's back to mainland Europe. Any suggestions? My earliest Kerkhoff (John) showed up in London his wife was called Grace. Their first child born 1758.
