I am a Kerl!
Jay Kerl to be exact, recently I decided to start tracing a little bit. I started because I've decided to go to Germany and Switzerland within a couple of years or so and would love to meet someone there that shares the surname.
I have some partial information leading back to approximately 1860 or so if you would be interested in sharing some information. Write back if so my email is as follows

jayspeed@fuse.net

Danke shurn,
Jay Kerl
I would like to contact Susan Sarauer who posted on this message board in 2000. The listed e-mail comes back. My Great grandmother Emelia Abraham was Bertha Kerl's sister.
Parents were Wm. Fred. Hell and Wilhelmine Kruger Hell, came to Janesville, WI in about 1881. Bertha's children include William who married a Neitzel, Paul who married Neitzel, Henry, Bernard, George, Ray, etc. I think we might have a connection

Lucille,
Glad the information was helpful. Can you clarify how you are related. Are you Genevive's daughter or granddaughter or are you related in some other way. I certainly do not have all the Michael Kerl grandchildren down and am at zero concerning great grandchildren, except my own cousins. Do you know Mike Kaufman? Where does he live? I have written him but have not heard back from him. Does you have his e-mail address. Did you get the e-mail I sent you to the e-mail address that I noted for you? Where do you live? New York? I hope that we can make contact with Mike. I have some more interesting information. Look forward to hearing from you. John

Hello! My name is John Kerl. I am the son of Peter Charles Kerl Sr.who is the son of Peter Paul Kerl (1895-1960) who was the son of Michael Kerl (1852-1942). My father is still living (I had him on the phone while I was beginning to type this!) and he can be great resource for you all. My father and mother (Catharine Lyon Kerl) live in Bellingham, Washington. One correction, my grandfather, Peter Kerl, did not move to Ohio. He never left Lancaster, N.Y. My grandparents lived at 73 Church Street, Lancaster, N.Y. til the day he died, June 25, 1960. He and my grandmother (Minnie Finck Kerl, 1984-1979) are buried at St. Mary's Cemetary. Also, It was George Kerl who was killed by the train along with his wife in 1933, not Frank. I have a lot more information but will send this to see if it goes through.

have just come across a little bit of information on our John Kerl. He was born4/5/1809 in Wethouse, Germany and died 8/71892. Married Mathilda Schubert (sister of Franz Peter Schubert) in Germany. Was mattied 3 times and had 5 children by each wife. He lived in Jefferson City, MO. Know he had son Simon who taught school in Texas and wrote textbooks on grammer. He became Pres. Lincolns secretary and had a chance to buy land in Nebraska for 50 cents an acre. JOhn Kerl's second wife was a widow a Mrs. Shot. His 3rd wife was to a Caroline Spillner a woman with 2 sons. Found a little history I had overlooked as "not very important" years ago. Would this be the same family????

I'm trying to locate info on my family so that I can trace my family back to where we came from. My family is from Bad Langensalza, Germany. All I really know is that my Great-great-grandfather was Andreas-Otto Kerl. He was born in the early 1800's. He was married 3 times, and so was his father. They came into the US in the late 1800's. They came into New York and dispersed towards Wisconsin, and settled in and around Mazomanie and Black Earth area, and were farmers. Anyone who can give me any leads or info...please e-mail me. Thanks
