I am looking for information regarding Franz Kern, German immigrant, and his descendants.
According to the 1860 Towamensing census, Franz Kern was born in Germany abt. 1814. St. John’s Union Church of Towamensing Township, Carbon County, PA lists the burial of a Franz Kern 12/14/1812 - 3/16/1864. His wife was Mary/Maggie/Margaratha, also listed in the 1860 census.
Franz Kern's son, Peter Kern (b. abt. 1840), married first Jane (b. abt. 1846) and later Sallie Ann (b. abt. 1836). Peter had the following children that I know of:
Francis Kern abt. 1864
Henry Kern abt. 1871
William Kern abt. 1873
Ida Kern abt. 1875
Samuel Kern abt. 1877
I lose track of this family after the 1880 census in Towamensing, Carbon County. I have noticed various family trees on ancestry that claim Peter later married Elizabeth V. Kramer and moved to Massachusetts. I have not yet found any convincing evidence that this was the case.
If anyone recognizes any of these names, please let me know. There are so many Kerns around the Lehigh, Carbon, and Northampton counties that it makes one's head spin. This particular Kern family appears to be a fairly late arrival to the area (based on census data, I guessing Franz Kern immigrated from Germany between 1851-1860). Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
